  1. sorry chris, i missed this post somehow.. im sure i can help, post some pics? my lathe can turn up to 9" diameter. chris
  2. has anyone got any timber in the kent area they want to get rid of.. i would happily come get it from you as long as its free. chris
  3. metal is on its way to you eddy.. just got back from post office chris
  4. nice one there GK. it works a treat, i got a ford transit in, but it is not on my bench haha. mate dumped it on my drive at the crack of dawn and its a non starter brushes on the starter motor are worn down to nothing, the solenoid is still alive, so it just clicks and no bzzz, also the dash clocks dont work what a surprize... chris
  5. ya.. thats the one, i found out you can get certain drill bits to drill hardened steels (even tool steel) but.. they are very expensive and also very brittle. they would have to be mounted in a ridgid setup with power feed, the feed and cutting speeds are crucial to making the cut work. sounds like a job for a machine shop there eddy.. chris
  6. i would say thats becasue the plasma cutter would fill them, i wonder what he is going to use? chris
  7. nice work on the knive
  8. no one local to you have a cnc plasma cutter? that would do it too. chris edit doh... done it again lols
  9. yer.. its hradened then...whatever its made from is debatable, but it dont get the holes in does it.. i would just get it cut out professionaly, spark errode or cnc plasma cut.. chris
  10. damn, thats a long bar . your gonna cut the planet in half with one slip are you 100% sure it is made from tool steel, there are other steels (like silver steel) that can be machined first and then heat treated to harden and temper. best way to find out is to try to file it (not a diamond flie), if a flie cuts it, it can be drilled, if the file skips across and does not cut then its too hard to drill. chris
  11. cobalt drills are tools steel with added cobalt, cobalt makes them a bit harder, although i doubt a cobalt drill would drill through cleanly. the best bet to drill d2 would be diamond tipped drills. good luck with that just out of interest, what are you making out or this tool steel? and why does it need to be so hard? chris
  12. i would say air leak, or carb problems. i think if you need a working saw a new one is the best solution. it could also be the needles have become loose in the carb threads due to vibrations, its quite comon on old engines, some have an o ring fitted to them. as you run the saw they can vibrate in giving a weak mixture, a bit of blue locktite can solve this issue or new o ring. maybe replacing the carb would do it or you could be looking at a crank seal problem which dissaperes after the engine has warmed up and it expands. chris.
  13. ill have one for everyone yer d2 is tool steel, the only way to cut it is to water or spark errode, water is only for roughing, very bad finnish, or grind which is slow..
  14. yer i see, i kinda misread the post blame it on the ale im drinking.. chris
  15. i have a vertical mill stubby. what do you need doing? chris
  16. yer like this, but use the dusting tanks as fuel cells and have the saws on so they stick out of each side of the skids, than fly at shoulder height into said zombie pack. no chance of getting spattered in blood [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmymGlp1nmY]RC Helicopter Crop Dusting - I Live in Japan Mini 11 - YouTube[/ame] chris
  17. yay i got it right, a spring puller thingy, its ok i got one too chris
  18. trust me, that wouldnt work. i fly rc helis and if the blades touch more than a bee the heli usually self distructs here are my two helis.. now a crop spraying rc heli with dual chainsaws sounds good, and mini gun just for good measure. chris
  19. ya, got it eddy, will post it up to you next time im out. chris
  20. yer.. the wife has paypal so no problem.. pm me your add and postcode and ill sort it chris
  21. is it for the carb needles ?
  22. if you want it, you pay to pack n post it up to you and its yours. these off cuts came from the scrap bin so they are free to me too i get a big bag of off cuts containing alloy, stainless, ph bronze and delrin every now and then, very handy chris
  23. found a bit of 1 inch diameter, the shortest bit i have is just shy of 4 inches. is that any good ? chris
  24. aah, that's even a struggle with tungsten tooling i have 3.5 inches of 2 inch to hand, i have some smaller offcuts but they are buried in that corner under a pile of stuff ya know... ill have a rumage for you.. it would be 6063 t6 if i have any 1 inch stuff chris
  25. they do have an old bridgeport mill there, what type of code it uses i am not sure, i would have to ask my freind. tbh that old bridgeport is only any good for non precision work as the bearings are hanging out of the quill, the bearings eventually eat through their mounts and cost a packet to repair. the rest of the machines there are multi axis very expensive machines. do you need a part made or something? chris
