MODERN ARBORICULTURAL SPLICING TECHNIQUES AND INSPECTION (16 strand & double braid ropes,)
INTRODUCTION
After a period of over two years of not hosting any splicing workshops in the UK we have decided, due to demand, that it’s time to begin presenting these popular workshops once again. This will begin in January 2014 with a whole week of back to back presentations culminating in a free day of hollow braid splicing for all attendees booking two days or more (numbers pending).
TRAINEES
A series of workshops designed for arborists wishing to understand the stages of completion of a double braid splice or 16 strand (eg Yale XTC , Samson Velocity etc). These courses will look at how to undertake splicing of these rope constructions along with thorough examination of spliced rope.
Trainees should be familiar with a relatively wide range of climbing ropes available on the arboricultural market.
The course will include trainee hands on involvement with the splicing process along with presentation of theoretical informationby the instructor, of the techniques, skills & knowledge require for hand rope splicing.
OBJECTIVES
The expected learning outcomes is that the trainee: -
1. Awareness of the legal implications pertaining to completion of rope splicing by hand
2. Understands splicing terminology and the common splicing phrases utilised
3. Awareness of the interface between hand rope splices and modern arboricultural techniques and equipment
4. Understands the requirements for operator pre-use checks, inspection, and record-keeping, of rope splices
5. Identifies different splice types and their appropriate thorough examination.
6. Understands rope construction including rope fibres, make-up and materials.
7. Understands how rope splices can affect the structural integrity of rope and strength loss.
8. Has the ability to identify the tools required to complete rope splicing
9. Demonstrates an ability to complete a hand splice, including an understanding of different types of whipping and their relevance with different rope constructions/types.
