Hi I have got a Stihl 039 that will be in need of a new piston before too long put a non oem one in there and it must be pretty soft as it has started to get chewed up already when looking through the exhaust port. What make do people recommend?

Thanks

Matt

When you fitted it, did you make sure the bore was completely clean of aluminium transfer - thats if it seized? Did you also re-bevel the edges of the ports?

Meteor are best after OEM and then Episan, followed by Golf...IMO!

Thanks for the info I bought it as a project the person before could not get it to start the cause was low compression as the rings were coked up and stuck, I could not really find any meteor pistons for that saw i noticed some of the american forums mention VEC pistons but not sure on quality. I did clean the aluminium transfer off the cylinder but did not bevel the ports so that could be part of the issue but the rings on the replacement piston seem really soft as well

thanks

Matt
