    ms 290?s

evening chaps. thinking of purchasing a ms290, (2007yr), are these a decent saw? any probs people have had with them? would prefer something with a 18/20"bar, whats the max bar size for one of these saws. also, what saw with a 18/20" bar would you guys recommend?? it would be for ground work only, the odd biggish trunk that sort of thing, logging for myself. been using a ms 180, at tad small really, been borrowing a saw recently that a tad bigger. thanks.
  5. cheers chaps, very helpful, love this forum and every ones knowledge.
  6. thanks, where this from please?? any stihl dealer??
  7. cheers, will have to watch vid another day, only got mobile internet here, no land line sadly. not sure what pipe it is, but there one that goes from the side of the carb to the front of the saw and one goes the the rear of the carb the one on the rear has perished, but if there the same pipe I may aswell replace both.
  8. reet, had a good clean of the we beasty today, looks brand new (want to buy it) lol. ive got a pipe that has perished that goes to the carb, and the pipe that goes into the petrol tank that holds the filter. can anyone supply these??? or could a kind person put up a link to the pieces I need please. anyway put a teaspoon of petrol down carb, on the forth pull the old gel fired up!!!!! but by feck don't they take some pulling!!!!! what sort of money would I be looking at for a 20"/2ft bar and chain?? hmmm, saws to big for a bar that size eh it would be wrong!!!!!
  9. thanks chaps.
  10. evening. had half hour to have a play with the 075 this eve. drained the petrol and oil out, tanks look pretty clean, but will flush them out. shall have it to bits proper at the weekend and give it a good clean, its a mess!!! not that im ready, but whats the starting procedure of one of these?? also, as you look down on the saw bar pointing outwards, theres a switch on the left on/off. switch on the right, choke. button on the right near spark plug, decomp. and theres a lever above the exhaust with a pos/neg, whats that all about?? thanks.
  11. ive been thinking of some of these, but does lots of movement and sweaty feet bugger the wirering up at all?
  12. cheers chaps, cant wait to have a play with it, then flog or swap it.

    075av pics

some pics finaly, comps been playing up, will give the saw a good clean and get some better pics.
  14. evening all. today I got me hands on a 075, very grubby, as its been sat on a shelf in a storeroom for a number of years, I was told that is was a runner when last used, in surprisingly good nick for its age. now then. is there anything I should be aware of before I give it a good clean and a service?? what is the cc of the engine of one of these?? last one, what sort of dosh would one expect one of these to sell for either on flea bay or privately?? reason being im after a secondhand lighter saw with a 20"bar so thought the funds off the 075 could go to something a tad more modern. ive got a windblown 2ft ash to clear up so hoping to have a play with this 075 on that, never used a saw this big before:biggrin: will get some pics up in a bit. thanks.
  15. the wheel weight is to get a bit of weight on the front of the trailer, I made the body a bit longer than the chassis, so its arse heavy before the weight was on, the trailer used to snake when being towed so a bit of weight on the front sorted that. need to take it off some time as ive got so 90x90 bar to put on the a frame, will look better than that wheel weight.
  16. lol, its me mobile dog kennel and daily motor
  17. thought id put another pic up or two up. some pics of it tipping, really should get a leccy pump for it as it takes a age to pump up by hand. chassis cost me 60 nicker, 40x40 bow was a old mc, donalds hoarding and the galv sheet I had left over from a job. so all in it cost me about 100 nicker we the lights and such. I know where theres two more big sankeys going for 50 a piece but these are the big ones you two behind a lorry and a bit tatty. that's if they aint been scraped yet.
  18. but if you know what your doing and don't push the saw to hard how can you stall or burn a clutch out??? there just there for a bit of grip, not forcing the saw through.
  19. a friend of mine used to work for a comp that moves trees in this way, not sure if there still doing it, they are called "waltons" and based at bruntingthorpe. they done trees on the royal estates, me mate even shook hands we Charlie boy. whatever floats your boat!
  20. now that's a good one!!! got them from a place I used to work, cant think what there called, but they were used for fixings into brick/block work without using raw plugs. were never to great as I seem to remember, but great for me log holder.
  21. what ever there called, the metal ones I put on work a treat, and ive not managed to stall it yet:001_smile:
  22. I gone a tad mad we pics tonight, so I,ll make this one the last:001_smile: one of me trailer I made, its on a sankey chassis and is a tipper with a hyd hand pump, wish I had put a leccy pump on it, but I didn't have one. wanted something we a bit of ground clearance as I tend to get most of me logs from a area where theres a lot of fair size stumps.
  23. yep, plastic ones moulded into the casing, off the top of me head think its a ms 180
  24. made this last weekend (based on one I see on flea bay, but stronger, taller and replaceable teeth. tried it out today, very pleased saves me back:001_smile:
  25. the little plastic teeth on my stihl wore out a while ago, so I knocked these up, works a treat, but I should of made them a tad smaller as ive lost a inch of bar really should be thinking of getting another stihl or a husk with a 18/20 inch bar, so if anyones got one for sale please feel free to pm me
