1. I'm after an Alaskan mill all sizes considered ,also any stihl chainsaws around the 044 size Any old chains , wedges and milling equipment also interested in , if anyone has anything going please get in touch , ideally local to Doune / Stirling area but would pay postage for the right gear Cheers
2. Cheers sir i shall get that book, I'll put up some photos once I get the oak over , appreciate your reply mate
3. I'm after beech, chestnut and oak for milling. Cash paid upfront If anyone has anything or knows of any windblown please let me know Cheers
4. Cheers Alec,, I may try a smaller setup, is there any particular way to do the joists from the tree, as in quarters of use the centre, I'm not sure on how stable it would be when used green then drying . I was thinking about having say a 17inch slab by 8inch thick ready then doing a vertical cut down the centre
5. I was thinking about that coming out the posts and an angle and up into the joists so to lock it all together , see the joints if done when it's green , and pegged, would there be much shrinkage or movement ? As in would the mortise and tenons possibly pull against each other and move the supporting joist? It's basically to stop floor bounce in the cottage , I'm going to try and make a feature of the oak like it's always been there, refuse to use steel beams it must be oak and done the old way , I just need to learn the old way 😬
6. Another question guys I have 2 year old oak it hasn't been cut up just felled and the root plate removed , any ideas on the moisture content ? I was thinking around 40% , I'd be hoping to use this wood for door surrounds and joists, any ideas on the ideal moisture level for using a router on the wood Cheers Steve
7. Hi all I have a healthy stihl 076 with a 48in bar , I'm needing to make up 8by8 beams and am thinking about the granberg mill , would the stihl rollermatic bar be fine for milling or would a sugi bar be better ?. Cheers
8. Afternoon all, I'm currently looking at milling some green oak into 8 by 8 beams to support the first floor joists, I was going to have the uprights as 8by 8 and secure the roof beams by means of mortise and tenon, I'm just wondering if anyone knows the shrinkage rates of green oak and at what moisture % should I wait before working the wood. Cheers
9. Rotten fence post, with a root growing inside it
10. How are they rated? Any weaknesses
11. I thought that ,but the place had been empty for over 20 years, unless ground conditions are slowing the growth rate down ,I will investigate as it should be bigger?
12. It must be planted as a grave ,and going by the wire that's around it be around 20 years old easily ,Any ideas on species
13. Soft but powers the Hydraulics, and does what I need; plus cheap to repair, beats flash and expensive any day , Unless you have a huge job book to pay for the machine ,start small and grow large
14. Yeh it is , simple but strong
15. Going to restore and modify , attach a log grab to the front and a hydraulic winch on the backhoe should work well together ,it's had a new engine fitted from jcb at some point and starts a treat
16. Only used one and was very old on a 3 point linkage , guess the new one es are good just thought if he has a jcb use it as it pushes any size of post into the ground without issue
17. Use the back dipper on the jcb to force them In,with points cut in them ,better than any post knocker
18.
hi did you ever get those course notes for the level 2 ?

19. I'm still not 100% how to show it for q4 and 7, may email asking for an example of the format
20. Cheers , it's only those 2 I've to do but each question you could really put huge answers to,I'm just trying for short and sweet more in depth than thought quite interesting thoufg
21. see doing the tablated data part. Section 1 q4 and q7 how did you do yours ? hand wrote or on the computer?. labelled diagrams as well im wondering whether to them electronically or just the old way.
