  1. here a pdf link I dunno if it reportable here or not but it a seriously nasty little thing http://www.forestry.gov.uk/pdf/epa_emerald_ash_borer.pdf/$file/epa_emerald_ash_borer.pdf
  2. That looks like the ash borer ........and if it is it a huge problem ....I dunno if it in this country but in the states it's a huge huge problem up north
  3. One of our twins went to school once with two pairs of drawers on My wife asked the other twin why......she said " well dad wears long johns for more layers .....Steph was complaining of the draft so I thought more layers it be warmer......then she said.....see I got two as well
  4. well mine is .........Grandad/Dad can we go home this the 5 saw shop we been to..............
  5. |I don't like hi lifts cause it just more to bloody carry and I'm getting old lol however if I do need more lift 3 things I do 1 swear profusely at the tree if that don't work 2 Talk nicely to the tree if that still a no 3 cut big ass wedges from the face slab then wallop like hell then have my mates take the pi** for weeks
  6. I got a ported 357 to lol ......I still got my big babies and they ported to but use the 357 a lot lol especially over here back stateside it usually the 372 or 395 tho the 357 is good on gas and oil and is underrated by so many
  7. I would basically agree with what ya just said. I said earlier bout productivity and to that I'll add ......Why would ya want to pack a big heavy sod when really there there no need. I can see the theory but honestly I've packed big saws and it does have an effect on your body after a while. My elbows are shot and I eat painkillers like candy at times so I would honestly advise only pack what ya need in the long run your body will thank you. There could be safety issues to (not calling into question ability etc) as the low end grunt a 660 has really is meant for a bigger bar and cutting with smaller the same grunt gonna be there just transferred thru a smaller extension so control ain't gonna be the same. Not honestly calling in to question ability etc. If ya wanna see how a big saw cuts with a wee bar do it at the buck lol

lol you guys sound like real pro's at this All lessons learned lol
  10. Ok Ok who didn't do the toilet training safety briefing lol
  11. on the plus side you'll improve your muscle tone in your arms lol seriously tho that kinda a wee bar for a 660 (I'm a husky lover, saws not dogs before anyone says lol) and it as said won't really give ya more productivity but hey ho
  12. been sent for a sky hook, a left handed axe, a stump greaser oh and to look for the guy who'll give me the long stand pretty lame I guess but the old ones do seem to work lol
  13. That cool I think as the skill sets kept going.........When my grandad first taught me to fall it was with an axe and crosscut lol it was hard but I now appreciate why ......it does teach you respect for what your doing sharpens your awareness and gets ya pretty fit too lol The only thing I ever done that could compare with your group is I've squared logs with and axe (jigging and hewing) I wasn't much cop at it tho .......to slow I guess. I do on occasion help friends build cabins but my only input is to fall the trees, buck em (crosscut .....see learning the lingo lol) and saddle notch them the rest I just watch lol well apart from the bit where brute force and ignorance required (ignorance I ca\n well do lol)

  18. I 100% agree with ya there bent bits etc burn just the same. Every year back stateside we cut and donate 4 cords to a local charity to give to folks that are less well off and in need like the old folks. It not much but they are more than delighted if there is top wood in there some folks are kinda snobs as far as firewood goes (not folks on here) I blame the internet lol folks read to much lol:001_tt2:

Any ideas how I can avoid shopping with wife lol.........I was thinking if I eat a couple of cans of beans (leaving the tins strategically placed so she sees em) put on my best work pants and suspenders and hard hat (it is raining ) I'm thinking that'll do the trick .........other suggestions welcome tho lol:biggrin:
  20. File 13 buddy. Those saws in my opinion are disposable ......things go wrong you bin em prob cost ya more to fix than worth (not being rude). think on this .....if fuel is leaking in any way you may at some point be left holding the partner version of a roman candle........not nice and bloody dangerous. Oh and wear ppe no matter what saw they can do damage. How long does it take to put on chaps etc??? Better waste that time than the rest of life missing bits you kinda regard as important .....oh and if it leaking fire proof might be a thought lol (sorry joke couldn't resist my sick sense of humor )
  21. I am no tree expert in any remote way and defer to those who know bout these things. The only thing I could add is there are no more daft things in life and this world as members of the general public meaning if there is the chance it could fall causing injury then remove it. I know that sounds drastic but the sue culture is growing here. If there is new planting being under taken iis there a chance of it falling and damaging them or other standing timber. If so well fall it. I do have a slightly different view on timber to others (however I love trees) that is for sure and from where I live (yup the states and here) we'd remove it and renew Again I defer to the tree guys here but if ya do fall it be careful it don't bust out on you
  22. Craobh

    Whoa lol

yes although mine the studs are more like the spikes you get in golf shoes .....put it this way lol I forgot once walked into the kitchen with them on and I kinda sunk into the floor lol.........wife wasn't best pleased:blushing:
  23. Craobh

    Whoa lol

oh the I'm sure the powers that be would have a hissy fit lol......after they actually worked out what they were .....that prob would take em a while. Fall arrest system is simple .............. don't fall:biggrin:........I would dread to think if they said you had to be attached to the tree as one advantage of boards is/was if it goes rats up (being polite) you can leg it lol I sure as hell wouldn't want to be attached to anything near the base of a big sod lol cause if anyone was then they'd be full of holes from my caulks running right over them on my way out
  24. buddy totally off subject but on the thread Whoa I got into talking bout springboards.......I just saw your profile pic and it looks like you using them if it not to forward go see what I said (US point of view) and maybe you can add more or better
  25. Craobh

    Whoa lol

I only use them on pre planned things lol I ain't humping any more than I have to lol ........boards can be used on anything of around 24" upwards they really only a platform used to get you up a bit. You can build make shift platforms as I guess you guys will if your on nasty ground where tree big sod and sure footing needed. I've never known any one make boards in the woods but maybe
