  1. Thanks all....:-)
  2. come on lets have a look.. Im all for learning and improving techniques etc and its nice to get some feedback good or bad...but as you say they are enjoyable doing them and seeing them come to life
  3. worx jawhorse looks like the job! although iv gone for a free option and have 'moded' a large wooden reel. I shortened the top and the centre hole modified so that you can use a screw to hold your carving. Only think left is to sink the bolts further into the wood that hold the reel together..else ill be spending all my time breaking or sharpening my chain. hopefully it will work well...(for how much I paid for it) ;-)
  4. A couple of my first attempt at owls. I used black marbles for eyes, as helpfully advised by fellow arbtalkers. Then a small burner to add detail to the wings. Hopefully ill be making a few more of these and improving my technique.. ..although I now have a few more things on my shopping list.
  5. Nice job...Lovely pair of Hooters!!
  6. Hi, as you can see I used a wood stain for mine which adds effect and is really good but if your looking for a clearer finish id agree with wisewood :-)
  7. Damn...slightly too far for me :-(
  8. I looked at the motocross stands, like ideal if it wasn't or the price :-( Pallets sound a good idea too. Think im going to do a little work to the reel to hold something like a carvers screw. Not sure yet but im sure it will do the trick from what you've said
  9. Instead of stretching down to carve, causing back ache and annoyance im looking to get a table/stand for when im working on carvings. Iv noticed all sorts from, trolly jacks, scissor jacks etc. Im thinking of using a large wooden cable reel. Seems like a good idea and is the correct height (for me) Has anyone had any experiences with varied stands and could advise me? especially large wooden cable reels. Cheers:001_smile:
  10. Nice bear...looks great, love the photos!
  11. Good Blog; I have a few carvings im interested in doing sometime.. 1. Sheep 2. Owl 3. Otter 4. Eagle 5. Hand Seat ( Sit on palm, with fingers as back rest) Iv seen the carving a bear book which gives good advice, a step by step guide, although some cuts id change how their done so to minimise mistakes.
  12. how did you do the writing on the wood, it looks superb and very neat, was it a standard soldering iron?
  13. Love the axe, I did a few to try and shift for fathers day, but they sell well anytime. I guess it depends how much you charge. The owl looks great too...I started on mushrooms and got so into carving I do bits off alsorts now...
