    Thanks for the advice. Thin it will need to be lowered because of the flower bed underneath Would it be more appropriate to swap to a prussik so when choking it off?     So I have got a very large cedar to do next week! I have done big trees in the past but never had to clog anything down on the pulley before really so I'm not that confident doing it. Any tips would be great! Also is it wise to double wrap my strop when chogging down? I also climb on a spider jack, on a pole I usually choke my mainline off and come down you could say single rope, is this safe on a sj? Thanks Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    I agree, the 540 is a terrible saw! Great when it working however had countless problems with mine which means it rarely is working. Get it sorted husky! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    I'm with it now, so do you not need 2 clove hitches then, just one on the butt then a half hitch at the other end? Sorry just want to make sure I fully understand before trying it again! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    That's great, never actually thought about using slings? It's hard to explain what happens when I do it but my half hitch runs up and doesn't balance the weight just goes to one end like it would normally! Can you do a couple of wraps to prevent this? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    I got shown a while back how to cradle timber when climbing but can't fr the life on me remember! I have tried it since and get the basics, 2 half hitches then a figure of 8 and clip the binder onto it but the half hitch always slips! Any advice image etc? Thanks Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    My t540 runs well when it's cold. However it's absolutely horrible when it gets warmed up. After 10 mins in the tree it's cuts out after after I shut off and then won't start. Been sent away and nothing was wrong with it apparently. Anyone else had this problem? Its becoming a nightmare now really starting to get on my nerves Thanks Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    Yes I would of thought the tree would of decline worse if the roots were severed 12 years ago? I did wonder that but I presume he meant dead in the canopy. It looks healthy all in leaf! Yeh it's a big job, I wouldn't like to do it anyway everything will be in hand held bits and even then your over gardens that can't be accessed easily. Not much room to swing anything round!     Right so just found out p, the tree is actually coming out legally! Still a bit suspect about the whole thing. Council originally said there was no application but then rung back and said they had a tree report done and it's 40 percent dead, therefore has got a 5 day notice on it to come out. No since this one of the neighbours had a local tree surgeon out who said its 10 percent dead if anything and it doesn't need to come out. Just dead wood and maybe reduce some big limbs heading right over towards the house. Still don't know who's doing it, but it's not the company who surveyed the tree originally.     Thanks for the response guys! Still wound up about this. Plan is now, ring council tomorrow ASAP, find out if its all above board or if he has been telling lies. If so, which Iam confident, I'm off to see the guy who's paying for the work explaining about fines etc, hopefully the tree officer will be down also. I have been to see the owners of the House who's tree it is. She isn't too bothered and have allowed them to come in for access. I presume because she isn't paying for it so she doesn't mind too much. Seen the guy whos paying for the work he tood me He had a top guy come out and survey the tree and it's 40 dead because of the houses that were built 12 years ago as the roots were damaged. The tree is perfectly healthy apart from a small amount of dead wood! When I asked him who was doing the work he couldn't remember! Very strange! Should there also be notifications of lam posts?     So there's a large oak behind my house, it grows over 5 gardens, we have been told not directly that it is getting cut down next weekend. Apparently they have got permission and have had a report done but I don't believe this for one second. The neighbours struggled a a years ago to have a limb reduced as it was into there house window almost so I find it very hard to believe they have give permission to remove it totally I have looked on the planning authority list and can't see anything about it there at all, and the local councillor said he hasn't had any applications. They are coming down next weekend and apparently charging 800 quid. ***** bells are ringing. Its atleast 3 day job for a very good set up. No machinery access, bad drag, will have to ring very little bits Anyhow what can I do to stop this will be gutted to see it go! Am I best ringing the police on when they come to do it if the council haven't given permission? Thanks Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    Unforuntatly can't do much about the rope size. I have just got a new one, that my boss has paid for and can't afford to get one myself and then buy a sj/lj. Don't think ill be going to any shows apart from apf but that isn't until sept! I have got chance to try the sj out, but just not a lj and don't know anyone Who has one. Just wanted a comparison.     Yeh my rope is 13mm and cord 10mm was using 8 before! Just after something that I know will bite every time and is a bit more fluid when doing big dismantles or renditions etc Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    I already have a pantin, best 40 quid spent ever! It would be nice to have both to be honest. I have my personal rope for rec climbs so got an excuse to buy something shiny Had a go at srt the other day, couldn't get on with it but didn't give it much time to be fair.     It seems like a 50/50 on lock jacks and spider jacks from what I have seen. The lockjack is putting me off as I fear it will be too jumpy. Can you control the spiderjack one handed when branch walking whilst using the brake? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    I have tried a few different knots but couldn't get on with them! My vt always seems to slacken off so just need to re tie it all the time. I have seen people using sj and lj in competitions and they always look good. I was close to buying a zig zag but after seeking one with 13mm rope decided against it, it's a very snug fit and heard of bad rope wear. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

    Yes, I find using a vt knot, when foot ascending the knot gets pushed us and when you sit back it never holds. I find myself tweaking the top wrap all the time, I just find it a pain. I can't really find many videos on the lock jack though, I'm still trying to figure out why lj is more expensive too.
