  1. Chipper wise I'd recommend the Vermeer bc230 on a turntable. We tested one at work, felled some 25ft 9inch at base birch, dragged them out with the landrover and took two of us to lift them up into the hopper. But it went all the way through no bother, branches and all. I can try and get hold of the video that one of the lads too.
  2. In reply to your edit that ive only just seen muttley it's been standing dead for 2-3 years now. So hopefully wouldn't take toooo long to season?!

  4. Just to give an idea how big this damn thing is here's a quick couple videos. Second one I've got the 660 with 36" bar and it only just made it in one go. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/iRl6wiHmfx0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/3cNnMndCIz0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Sorry the quality is so crap, mobile phone.
  5. The main thing I was wondering is if it would be possible to mill full width. Like you say muttley would make some damn good table tops!! Even milled at half width would be some nice planks.
  6. I have a job which may involve taking down a rather larger, 7-8ft diameter 8-10ft high, dead beech butt. Little bit of dry rot on one side (4 inches in from the outside) any idea what it may be worth to mill? Or if its better off for just firewood? Any ballpark figures would be good so I can talk to the customer about it. I'm in Northumberland. Thanks. Jonny
  7. Try contacting Tim Pickard at Backridge Arb Training Backridge Arb Training - Tree Surgery Work Clitheroe | Home Page They are based at Clitheroe.
  8. I know how you feel mate. Richard and myself were rigging down a huge pop on Friday and we were told we had to take our tshirts off and put long sleeve high viz back on. Madness. Think I drank about 6 ltrs of water in 4 hours.
  9. Zig zag looks awesome! I love the "animals" haha Would really like to have a go on one of these as I have climbed a little on an SJ and would like to compare before I end up shelling out some money for either.
  10. Quite quiet work wise at the moment so today's efforts consisted of finally taking the reflective strips off the 130 and starting to make a frame to fit my cubby box. Unfortunately ran out of welding wire. But getting there.
  11. Awesome little winches. We used them on cs32 training when I was in Wales with proclimber. When ever the pickup couldn't get there the portable winch was brought out. They have an amazing amount of pulling power for something so small.
  12. Over the next couple weeks the reflective stripes are coming off and there's sign writing going on. Mind I've not seen another bright yellow 130 about round here before.
  13. I'm down Newcastle way. It came through an auction. Unfortunately they took the light bar off, just left the 4 spots on the front and a work light on the back.
  14. Just managed to pick up my first defender. At the age of 23. Had Landrovers in the family for as long as I can remember and I love them. Mine is an ex Aberdeen airport, m reg 130 twin cab 300tdi with 85k on the clock, solid chassis, bright yellow. Soon to get some sign writing on. I'll get a pic up soon.
  15. I've already had some work from Chris, there tomorrow aswell as it happens. Thanks for the suggestion though
  16. Lovely work there mate, wish I had the skills/ time to do some turning, was never really good at it at school.
  17. Just thought I'd update this quickly, have had a call or two so far so thank you to those people. I now have my own basic climbing kit, small and large ground saw. Also thought I would mention I'm not a stranger to writing risk assessments etc, i used to work in civil engineering and I know how boring they are but also how important it is to complete them properly. Any work is appreciated especially at this time of year. Thanks.
