  1. Yeh I men't the slings to attach the pulley to the tree, should have said split tail any how. What size split tail for that size pulley and diameter rope should I be going for?
  2. So this will be my first bit of rigging gear for smaller dismantles and then progress onto bigger stuff What do you guys recon to this gear. an uncomplicated start is what I'm looking for.. 14mm EB double braid 14mm English braid rigging line | F R Jones and Son Small ISC pulley ISC small cast pulley 100kn for 13mm-16mm rope | F R Jones and Son Not sure on what sling to go for?? And a steel crab. Cheers
  3. Great videos. Haven't herd ghost writer in a while, or atmosphere. Nostaligic
  4. Thanks for the quick replys. Sent the throw line up there, obvious really. My brain had gone to sleep after being up there for 6 hours!
  5. Do people leave ropes up trees to carry on next morn? I have pollarded every thing around me and left with a few lateral bottom branches and the main stem I'm anchored into. I haven't left many anchor points below so it's gunna take a 1/100 throw bag shot. The site is safe by the way. Cheeers
  6. Got it! Cheers. Just one more thing. What do you recon about the chain creep? is this normal for a higher powered saw when idling? nitpicking over
  7. Started it earlier with no decomp with ease. So is it normal for a brand new bigger saw to not like the decomp valve open when starting from cold? All I'm thinking is that its abit odd how its brand new and the operators manual would tell you to use the decomp.. Thanks for the reply's. Still not sure whether to send it back though.
  8. If it wont startr first time tomorrow morn then they will have to pick it up, and I wont be paying any postage. Will try with out the decomp. And no they were no lazy pulls.. I got it to fire when I held the throttle open cold start with no choke, But that really isnt what you should have to do for a 'brand new saw' isit? Cheers for the help guys. Its pretty disconcerting when you've just spent that much money on anew saw and then have it play up before evenb using it aye!
  9. Evening folks. Was a tad excited yesterday getting home from work to find a shiny new 390. But the bleddy thing wouldn't start.. Cold start, choke in decomp pulled 5 or 6 times and didn't fire! Took the plug out and it was drenched so dried it off tried it again, to no avail. cleaned the plug again and Left it for an hour.. This time it fired after 3 pulls and got going. Did a very small amount of cutting then switched it off, abit later on tried it again it was flooded after 4 pulls!! The chain is creeping a fair amount and also came in a 560xp box. Help would be very much appreciated..
  10. Cheers for the replys guys. Eddy, by tweaked you mean ported I guess? Have never had a saw ported before, was thinking about getting the 550 done just incase it had to pull a 18" bar up a tree. Would this be a good idea ya recon?
  11. Turned out to be ansum day. Was like a tropical storm first thing then sun came out all day. Was up on the Moore's St. Breward. Lovely working weather, and a good dose of vit D
  12. This is it, sounds more versatile I went to a dealer that has them in stock earlier and noticed that there was a great amount of difference in weight, but then this was with no fuel/oil in the tank. And the 390 felt better weighted ona a 24" than the 576 did on 24" Hi Jon. That was the price for 390 and 576. Yeh I'm happy with that price. Hopefully he didn't get it wrong
  13. Hi mate. It's out of my price range and probably about as heavy as me Forgot to mention I can get both mentioned setups for same price, 800!
  14. Hi all. I'm looking to to buy a either a 576xp 20"bar or 390xp 24" bar to go with my t540 (13inch) and 550 (15inch). Until recently I've deal't with all job's that I have taken on with the two saws I have. But there have been a few that I would have been more confident using a bigger more powerful saw e.g 1. finish a back cut quickly 2.have the extra bar length there instead of matching up two 15" cuts on a 30" diameter tree 3.ringing up bigger stuff. The main one is to avoid putting an 18" bar on the 550 to take down a stump and have it going flat out which I'm not keen on (which I do). The big saw will mainly be a ground saw but I anticipate taking it up the tree. Have any of you guys used either saws up a tree and how do they handle? Would the 576xp be better choice being a tad lighter or does the 390xp pack more punch for its weight?
  15. Quite abit of posing with the saw and helmet going on. And yes that saw did look very clean He is putting his hand to it and having a go though (sort of).
  16. I have only recently bought the saw, so going out and buying a bigger saw isnt feasible quite yet . Think i mite go ahead and pickup a 18" bar and full chisel chain for the few times i will need something a little bigger. What do ya reacon, oregon?
  17. Cheers guys. Was pretty close to getting one, glad i didnt!
  18. Hi there. Im curious to know whether any of you guys run a 20" bar on a 550xp? I ask because i will be coming across a few bigger tree's (wider than the 15" bar and chain which im currently running). I know you can fell a tree which is wider than your bar, but i also have a few bigger stumps and some bucking todo. Cheers, josh.
