  1. We decided to get the Neuhauser, after looking at all the options, because they just look well thought out. The metal is thicker than the posch, the frame is very solid and stable, the bearings all have grease nipples, it has a fall away table on the sawbench, self centering for the sawblade. And it's red. I made up a blanking plate so I can use it for dressing cleft chestnut products. With 2 bolts it comes out and I can peel roundwood again. It's also very easy to change from peeling large poles to small ones. Theres a video on You Tube of someone using one at wilderness wood.[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xatQFtADeXo]Making Fence Posts - YouTube[/ame]
  2. Neuhauser rk1, osbournes sell them. I've got one, it's a bit sturdier than the posch one we've got. Cundey are good, they've got a pto peeler out now, built to last, but not the easiest firm to deal with.
  3. Sounds good Larry. Give me a ring and we can get the wheels in motion. If you organise it you get to choose the charity, which one ?
  4. Yes, a chainsaw instructor is bringing a few he has for spare.
  5. We had one in Herefordshire the other month, great fun. And I sold my trailer, though I'm not sure why I bought an antique Kango ! Pepenbury has a whole range of miniture animals and places for kids to play, there is also a woodland walk with a log maze / fort in it. If anyone wants to get in touch and have a chat about having a sale in the future, feel free. Its a great excuse to meet up and have a moan, while swapping some kit about.
  6. All welcome to the tool sale on Saturday February 1st, at Pepenbury, Pembury, Tunbridge Wells, Kent, TN24QU, 10.30 -4pm Bring along your unused tools to sell, swap or barter and buy some one else's. From a chainsaw to a billhook, or any other woodland tools that need a new owner. We have already had a lot of interest, with some exciting tools being brought along. Donations on the gate to Pepenbury (supporting adults with learning disabilities | Pepenbury), who are kindly allowing us to have a great get together, raise some money for a nice organisation, and break up the winter. This will be the first of a run of informal events to bring coppice workers together, with the intention to strengthen the national network. Any offers of help, either with promoting or making the day run smoothly (or organising more) welcome. Let me know if you'de like a flier emailed to print and display in chainsaw/tool/agricultural shops (or any where else you can think of). Refreshments will be provided by Pepenbury cafe For more information please call Matt (07796804419) or Toby (07811852704). [email protected] Tell all your friends and put it in your diary. If you want to bring anything big let us know before hand and we can save you space (or just bring a photo).
  7. I've been using them for a couple of years now, and like them. They are definitely better than the the previous 'brand' blades.
  8. If you have good quality ash sawlogs for sale please get in touch with me. I know someone always needs them for his business. They need to be tidy, he pays well. Leave them as poles. How many loads are there ?
  9. Yes, I understand you were quite involved with the SWA and got burned a bit Larry This Federation is going ahead, and it needs to get the input of all of us. It's up to us to be sure it's representative of the industry, and not a vehicle to collect funding for more office based 'coppice workers'. I'm sure you know my views on those types.... As the other chap said there'll be plenty of other professionals there, I'm looking forward to hearing about what others get up to and how they are doing it. That's how we grow our businesses, get more efficient and make more money. Hopefully there'll be a chance for some sillyness too.
  10. The idea of a national association was put forward by a coppice group in the north west at a conference held there about 4 years ago. Since then there has been another conference held in the South East, where a vote was taken to form a national network. A steering group elected themselves to get the ball rolling, this coming meeting and conference is the result of that. The national group and coming meeting is open to all those involved in the industry, whatever their scale or angle on it. You don't need to part of a local group, hopefully you will meet like minded locals at the event. The main driver behind this is Richard Thomason ([email protected]), he is worth contacting to see who's in your area. Personally I'm not sure what a national body can achieve other than holding a good 'woody' party every year, and acting as a point of contact for those interested in coppicing. But this is the start of it, it can be whatever we want it to be. One thing is for certain, without a good cross section of the industry on board, it will likely lean towards the 'coppice craft' side of the game. If this association is aiming to represent the coppice sector then we all need to make sure our voices are heard at the meeting or it will only represent a very small part of it.
  11. Why not buy a building plot instead ? If your not already in the trade do you really want to be cutting coppice every year just to justify having a caravan in the woods ?
  12. We bought 4, all problematic. Swapped the sprocket over to a spur as advised by stihl which made a difference to the clutch wear. Now they have all started to slip out of tune like yours. Shame they didn't keep going with the 260, we loved them.
  13. It's near Malvern in Worcestershire, 25th 26th April. NCFed I think the idea is that all the local groups get together to form a national one, not sure why. I big get together sounds good though.
  14. Who knows about the coming conference and will be going ? It's attached to the new coppice federation, is it a good idea or a waste of time? I'll be going and hosting a site visit, if they are going ahead with this national association I think there should be as many professional coppice workers on board as possible. Without the commercial aspect of the industry being represented it will become a very one sided organisation.
  15. Have you tried Ranould at Onibury near craven arms ?
  16. Send me an email, ([email protected]). I've not got anything presently but should do later in the year.
