Dont know if you guys would agree, but I often find too much resources ie time and money is spent on saving trees that really should go. And then theres nothing being done for some superb specimens dotted around. That house looks within striking distance, and if that tree uproots and falls upon the house, I bet the owner won't be telling the council, 'no worries there, the tree was more important. I'll pick up the tab on my house'. I remember moving some trees in Dublin for a road widening project. Local residents were in arms with the trees being cut, so I got called to shift them, to a local park. All was fine until the end of the day, when 1 resident came out with the councils head dudes, giving out about the tree blocking her view. The tree was a 40cm Birch and was planted 80m from her boundary wall, and 95m from her kitchen window (lucky I had my vertex lazer!). Tree was chipped 5 mins later. Motto- You can never please them all!

Mine does the same til it warms up. I was told it has a poor carb setup, but best left alone, as tweaking can do more harm than good. I just let mine tick over for a min, then it will work fine all day til cold started again.

Guys this thread is very current on my mind too. I have a 2005 landcruiser and it's egr valve constantly sticks. My dealer says not to replace the valve as new ones clog too; so a friend of mine who is an aeronautical engineer, advised me to bypass or blank the egr valve and cat/SPF and get a remap. The former get rid of the soot, so better for your engine, and the remap can be done to solely improve fueling, ie remove pre main fueling and after fueling, both of which is said to improve fuel economy, but in reality is just to clean burn. I think this tier legislation has gone too far. Were now expected to purchase complex engines, which are costly to buy and service, but like my landcruiser, actually produce more soot. I like the idea of add blue, but hate egr tech. I can't get a remap just yet, but I believe the dealers will have it in a dew weeks. I can't wait!

I have hp a plenty, to assist, with a quarry adjacent. But just want to avoid double handling if possible. Thinking of using a bale spike with just four tines to load 8-10ft logs onto, use watched strap and cut into 50cm logs. Today I just used a basic log holder and cut in situ and filled bulk bags.

We have approx 25 acres of first thinnings this year, mainly Ash and Sycamore. Due to poor soils yields are not high, but I would just like some advice on what's the best method to take timber and convert. Should I convert in situ, or cut to lengths of 8th and process later indoors? I don't have access to a processor or circular saw; just me and my chainsaw. I'm toying with building a small holder that I can fill with logs and cut with a larger saw? But it would be great to hear you guys experience and advice? Cheers
