  1. Following on from the brilliant and educational previous charcoal retorts topic (from steel qualities to syn gas) has anybody built, seen or used an adams retort?
  2. The op question was whether the timber had commercial value. The owner wants CFC. There is a better long term chance of this by racking it and selective irregular thinning there after. Only trying to be helpful but if you go ahead with your original plan I'd be very curious to see how you get on with it. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  3. Rack it Curve in the top and bottom of the lines, looks great. Reduces wind tunnels. Once it's second thinned using the rack system it'll look very pleasing. Funnily in the long term aesthetics of Sitka etc it's more a question of the neatness of the work. Little tricks of turning in the lines will help the owners feeling towards the job. Also racks then mean you don't hack the monkeys out of what's left at 2nd thin. Once neatly done and brash is handled correctly it will look great. I presume there's no mounding drains. I'm sure some of the other guys have photos of very neat jobs at 2nd thinned state to show you and the owners of what can be achieved with rack system. It can and will look natural down the line. 5. Ok because I seem to be on an accident roll and apart from proving I'm not that bright, the only possible benefit of this is maybe using my example in reiterating why wearing safety gear is helpful. This is an example of an eye injury caused by cutting ply and not wearing googles because they were in another shed. Picture taken 12 hours after the injury. I feel like a prick. Wasting my own time and my family's. Please guys stay safe. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  7. Helmets and ear protection! Side winded by the handle of a log arch under pressure. Stay safe folks. Good to see your ok Darrin Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  8. I think I'll have to! I would have really liked to get my hands on one of the old single duplicating machine but they're so rare (expensive) by the looks of it. I know the two American makes Klotz and Ober but I don't know if there was a European equivalent. (I'm sure there is but probably hens teeth also). Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk
  9. Thank you. It's all in the terminology! Could you put up a link? I've googled but I just want to make sure I'm on the same page in regards description. Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  11. Has anyone had any experience with wood copy lathes? Been looking at old ones like Obers on YouTube with an interest in making some axe handles out of ash. They seem to be a rare enough commodity to get your hands on. Has anyone tried this? Is there a simpler solution that I'm not aware of using a simpler type of machine/process. 13. That's seriously class. A1
  14. Hi Does the Putu work off its own pto driven hydraulic pump?
  15. I'm not sure if it was on this thread or the alpine tractor one but somebody had twin wheels front and back on an alpine. Looked to me like you could go across the channel on it!
  16. That's really neat. For the icing on the cake does the barrow fit under the splitter??
  17. Sounds like a very enviable set up. Have you anymore photos?
  18. Looks correct, well done 👍
  19. 150 to 1 odds for trump to win at the start of the campaign. That would have been nice.
  20. I know it's easy split but just for a laugh 😜
  21. Same as Rowan lee I've been using a Thor driven off a pto for five seasons and given it dogs abuse all the way and it's a fantastic piece of equipment. I have the 4 way splitter and have used it about twice, as mentioned it's not necessary. I actually bought the splitter on the back of a recommendation from arbtalk 👌
  22. Timber tongs 👍
  23. Found in great numbers in Norway spruce forest Below larch
  24. This could also be a handy alternative to a teleporter. Moffet MFT
