  1. didn't occur to me mate. i thought you wanted to use what you showed me for your own personal use anyway. if your passing i'll take the beech mate. the lignum was a right cock up. the delivered it with a truck that had no tail lift or pallet truck and it weighs about 150kg. the next week they did finally deliver it on a tail lift truck only for me to realise that it was way too big. 12 3/8" was what i was told i was to receive and i got one that is 15" in diameter. it is to be replaced with one that is 12 3/4" which is what the customer needs. i'll let you know when i have it so we can sort out the milling.
  2. hey jon, do you want to go around the country and collect the whole lot mate:lol:
  3. let me know their combined weight and i'll see what it would cost me in courier money. to the nearest kg will do. also the size box they will fit in to.
  4. i don't drive so cant collect. unless you are coming this way then i can't see me getting it. put up some pics and what you want for it. nepia lives in surrey and often brings stuff if he's coming this way so maybe in the future i may be able to buy it. boxwood always splits badly. how split is the laburnum?
  5. depends on the tree really. i've dropped two trees over the road from me as the guys were going to kill themselves, they were using an electric chainsaw. one conifer which was nice ans straight and there was 30' to let it fall in to. topped it, stripped it, dropped it. simple... the other was in the same garden and was a beech looking for the light under a large oak at 45 degrees ans was more of a challenge as the neighbours fence would have been crushed if i had just dropped it. i cut a wedge the opposite side of the fence and as they pulled on a rope i cut in from the other side. both were relatively small trees 15' and 30', common sense should tell you how to chop down a tree and when to call in a pro...
  6. for good looking wood any wood turner will most likely give it a good home. i get slightly annoyed when you see some really nice bits going for fire wood or get chopped up so small you can only use them for firewood anyway.
  7. cutting it in to two 4' lengths will be fine. i should be able to make a couple of nice bowl out of something that size too.
  8. how long is the stem? if it's sound i'll be interested.
  9. laburnum can be greatly varied in colour and usually darkens anyway. had a block that was dark but once cut up it was pale blonde in colour but one bowl blank is dark brown all the way through.
  10. they are dying out in general but i don't think wood turning belongs on that list. there are loads of us if you look around a bit. pole lathe turning i admit only 4-5 people in the country may be doing this.
  11. if it's the right size i'm happy to pay for a pallet. what sort of diameter is it?
  12. get some snaps up when you can mate as i'll happily pay for a pallet if there is enough.
  13. i see some flashin.... i hope it's as good as last night...
  14. just another store for the winter fuel. it's only 2' high but 10' long as it had to fit under that sill on the edge of the conservatory.
  15. i wont be turned in to lots of nice bowls unfortunately (well one or two bits will) but turned in to these skittles. although its not quite as good as boxwood it's a good substitute and that's what i'm after.
  16. is anyone able to bring this to maidenhead??? TIMBER: LABURNUM TREE see details | eBay
  17. hi all, i'm on the lookout for decent bits of laburnum to use for making very small skittles. the stems need to be 6-8" as i intend to quarter them and make 4 pins from each length. if anyone has any trees coming down in berkshire then i will happily take delivery of the large bits. length is not a factor as each skittle ends up 6" tall but i need the width so it can be split as described.
  18. that would be great to see those two saw go against each other...
  19. could have had plenty like that here too. there was a strike about every 10 seconds for half a hour. as i said a few posts ago, i am a tenpin bowler and throw it down there really fast and boom. i sometimes get called the thunder bolt because of the speed and the sound it makes but i can not hold a patch to the show mother nature has just given us, some really bright lightning and very loud thunder. wooooooweeee. that was a goodun. it has been so bright in the garden i can pick out more detail than you see in the daytime. light, dark, light, dark, light, dark, light, dark. man my iris muscles are worn out...
  20. getting treated to one hell of an electrical storm at the moment. not going to watch it that much because last time i did that i managed to be looking in the exact direction that one hit a mile or two away and had a huge fork of lightning imprinted on my retina for a good 5 minutes and started to think it was permanent.
  21. i am working in my workshop but ii may as well be outside. i've got to finish tidying it up. fans don't make much difference either. on top of that i had to go bowling tonight as it was the last night of the season but on the plus side i did end up bowling a 258 and got high game of the season.
  22. weather report earlier said 32 deg for tomorrow. i cant handle that...
  23. i live in maidenhead but am not sure what a climbing lid is, put up a pic or a link of what you want and i'll try to think of a place that may sell them.
