  1. Thanks for the replies, I see now that not only did I under price the job I also didnt take into consideration the sheer time scale to complete the job fully. Fortunately I have not given any quote to the client and I did say he would probably have a better chance of finding some rocky horse S***E than getting a fell with the TPO...thanks all the same, regards...Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  2. Good advice, yes, on reflection it would probably take 4-5 days, there is a serious incline for vehicle access and some serious manouvering issues, this would prove to be a serious problem when the firewood chap has to collect. The job on the whole is a nightmare, thanks all the same...Nick.
  3. Simply put skyhook, I find the job daunting-having not done such a big tree previously. We have all been pipped re quotes, and would genuinely like to know what others would charge...Nick.
  4. The rubber stopper from a two handled glass home brew kit with a bolt in to plug the hole works a treat-as I found recently after leaving off the oil cap-wondered where the smoke was coming from. Cost over £7 for a replacement.
  5. I would never put all my eggs in one basket-but having reasonable experience of both stihl and husky I can say that I am now pro husky, used a 365 special and loved the power, just putting a brand new 346 xp through its paces and am well impressed-if it was a bike it would be wheelies from the go, the power and revs are phenominal. Husky have a winner there. Although not a big boy fan it would be interesting to know what the 540 pans out like-I am undecided, is it an 880 a 660, 3120 or 395, will need one shortly-help...Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  6. This is on a presumption basis-I suspect the TO would authorise some de crown/thinning work. I am simply flumuxed as to the £££ issue, thanks.
  7. Hi, I visited a site where the client has a very large beech tree bang in the middle of his front lawn. The tree is subject to tpo status. My estimate is that its girth at 5ft is 9ft plus, about 4 ft 6" accross, the height is in excess of 90 ft, the canopy is enormous with some really big long branches. Under the tree are two double BT lines at right angles, including poles and a conservatory, two chest high fences and a single track road, which is a little off the beaten track, due to these, every single bough will have to be lowered as well as the blocking down of the main trunk. I know a picture says a thousand words but the tree simply is enormous and is the biggest on the hill. There is a slight lean to the tree as well as a vertical 8ft part healed scar on the lower section of the trunk. The owner reports his front lawn "moving" during reasonable winds. His house is subject to 50-60% permanent shade due to the trees location there being mould over most of the roof and walls. At least 2/3 s of the root system has interference from walls, the road and other obstacles. Simply put-the job is enormous and a right B*****D, Fortunately there are no traffic management issues. My question then is, doing a whole take down/dismantle employing 2 groundies-for a full 3 days including clean up etc, what would be the net charge to the customer ?. Obviously we will not bring in any monies made from the sale of the wood and a presumption that any tpo application would be succesful/accepted. Serious observations please, regards...Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  8. Hi, Ifor williams do a nice tipping trailer, not sure on the price, saw them at paxtons in Durham, about the size of the twin axle braked GD 84-8ft x 4ft with mesh sides etc, check out Ifors website-looked a good bit of kit, regards, Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  9. I was fortunate to already have an L200 before I set up. To move the chippings/logs and for lots of gear stowage I got myself a transit twin cab tipper. Works a treat but is not 4 x 4 (wish it was). Both vehicles have tow bars and have recently had fitted a 4 ton winch and tow bar to the front of the L200. That means that both vehicles can be utilised to tow the trailer/chipper and I have the option of off road use with the L200. Also have an agricultural plated yamaha 450cc kodiak 2 x 4 x 4 quad which has excellent towing power-just in case. Obviously I am a little bias but for space, sheer towing power, reliability and off roading the L200 would be my choice, (won the Paris/Dakar rally 4 years in a row -best pick up class)As mentioned-it all depends on what type of work you normally do and wether or not you are hauling much stuff away. I must admit that now I have the transit I dont know how I did-getting rid of brush/logs etc. If you can afford it-have both, good luck...Nick, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  10. Hi, looking for a reasonably priced traffic management company in the north east, route signing/diversion, maps etc, for submission to the LA. May have a job soon requiring a road closure/tpo job. Thanks in advance, Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  11. Yes it was definately a "mission" statement, (reminded me of my days in the military) which is why I remembered it. I agree, "method" is probably the correct term. One person asked if I had a "health & safety certificate" ???, did some enquiries and found that under current legislation if you have more than 5 employees you will need one, but with less than 5 one merely needs to show that all hse regs etc are compiled with. When I pointed this out to the enquirer -they had presumed it covered all contractors as other companies had more personel...We live and learn...regards...Nick.
  12. Hello all, have aquired a job where the customer requests that a "mission statement" is included as well as a copy of my liability insurance and a risk assesment. Is there a good soul out there who could forward me a mission statemet including the content and how it is written etc. I would simply change the circumstances etc. I have an idea but have not done one before so need a little help, kindest regards...Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  13. Hi Dean, I recently retired, and have set up my own business as an arborist. During my enquiries with the relevant colleges including east Durham (houghall) and Ponteland it was established that the majority of folk did the following courses in order to do the majority of work available, CS30,31,38,39,40,41, chainsaw use-maintenance,cross cutting & felling small trees, climbing & aerial rescue, climbing & cutting, de-crowning and tree dismantle. Obviously there are other courses including using a mobile elevated work platform aka ( cherry picker) and wood chipper/stump grinding. I believe the CS courses above are the industry standard but there are also the relevant first aid courses, railway safety course and utility/electrical cables safety courses. Please feel free to contact me on 0191-5282554, as I am in a good position to advise on which course and and what location, Houghall charge around £720 for a five day course including registration and asessment fees, which is well steep, good luck in your endeavours-give me a ring, regards, Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  14. Appreciated Mark, thought as much, I doubt I will overload to be honest, but I was just wondering if there was any advice on this particular vehicle, thanks all the same, regards...Nick.
  15. Yep, got to agree, good personal service. Have bought a ton of gear of late as well as new climbing gear, ropes, harness, boots, prusiks, silky etc, loved the sweets too, be up soon, kindest regards...Nick, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  16. Tracked 15cm infeed timberwolf chipper including operator, daily rate, 180$, north east area, contact Nick on 0191-5282554 for details. Timberline-Roe Ltd.
  17. Hi all, have recently aquired a 04 plate 2.4 cc transit twin wheel/cab tipper, with rear chipper body. Would anyone be able to advise me on wether or not the suspension would need to be upgraded-as far as I am aware the current suspension is the original spec. I will be hauling chippings/logs and brushwood, thanks in advance...Nick.
  18. Email forwarded for your records...Nick Pearson, Timberline-Roe Ltd.
