  1. Opportunity to work for large AA approved contractor based in west London. Our client undertakes work for a range of clients including local authorities (and even the Royal Parks), plus commercial organisations and private householders. To enable them to work productively they have invested in several items of heavy plant and specialist arboricultural machinery including a 20m MEWP, 9m telehandler and tipper lorries with grabs. They are currently looking to recruit an arborist driver to operate their 17 ton grab lorry. This is an interesting and varied role which will involve working across a range of contracts whenever/where ever the grab lorry is required. The driver will usually work as part of a two man work team removing large sections of timber or other green waste. This can involve cutting up and preparing the timber for removal. Interested candidates should have an HGV class 2 driving licence and NPTC CS30 for use of the chainsaw (as a minimum). They operate nationally and are the first choice for high profile consultancy projects. They are looking to employ at least two teams of Bat Inspectors to undertake surveys on the HS2 line north of Birmingham. The work will involve aerial inspections of trees that are considered to be potential bat roosts after ecological/habitat surveys undertaken at ground level. Each team will consist of two people who will be recruited together or separately (and made up into teams): Bat Inspector: the applicant must have a Natural England Bat Licence (Basic/Level) and have NPTC CS38 or equivalent (tree climbing and aerial rescue). They are looking for a driven, highly motivated and skilled Arboricultural Manager to join the team. The role would involve project managing a programme of urban tree projects ensuring they are delivered safely in line with current health and safety practices . Acting as the main point of contact for local councils, tree officers, project partners and other stakeholders to manage clear lines of communication and ensure that projects are managed and delivered in line with current planning policy guidelines and legislation and meet the needs of the local community. The successful candidate would undertake site surveys ,produce recommended tree species lists , liaise with established tree nurseries, select, source and order all trees and planting accessories, manage deliveries and care of tree stock. This would also involve managing budgets for the tree planting projects and developing a three year maintenance programme to ensure successful establishment and to monitor tree health. The successful candidate should hold a nationally recognised qualification in arboriculture or urban forest management (Level 3 or above) and have practical experience of planting standard trees and maintaining urban tree planting projects. Although the work is guaranteed for 3 months the other surveyors on this contract have been retained on an ongoing basis. Location: Thames Valley (Slough, Reading, Thatcham, Newbury) The work will involve surveying and consenting tree cutting works adjacent to the 132kV overhead line network. Candidates would be required to survey the lines and gain landowner consents and then produce work packs including location plans and method statements. The project will be the responsibility of a Senior Consultant who will provide appropriate training and day to day management/supervision. Candidates will be required to have NPTC units UA1 and UA5 and a valid first aid certificate. Previous experience of surveying and consenting tree cutting adjacent to overhead powerlines and specifying tree cutting works including the writing of risk assessments and method statements would be an advantage. They currently require a Surveyor based in north east London. The job will involve surveying shrub beds for Transport For London. Using a hand held pc with GIS the surveyor will assess shrub beds on their network for shrub type and condition, plus other criteria. Candidates should have a good knowledge of contract management in the arboriculture industry and have a clear understanding of project management and control measures. In addition, experience in a management or senior supervisory role is desirable. A relevant arboricultural industry recognised qualification with detailed knowledge of the purpose and application of equalities and health and safety legislation and policies is required. A sound knowledge of financial management and budgetary controls would be helpful along with a good standard of IT skill, including word processing, spread sheets, database, presentation, email/ internet GIS and mapping systems.
