  1. Land Value Tax has some potential merit but it's far from straight forward: https://economics.stackexchange.com/questions/3086/does-land-value-tax-create-an-incentive-to-merge-land-ownerships I did start reading the Labour manifesto the day it was released. It was such a meaningless pile of drivel that it was close to impossible to extract anything tangible from it. This issue of reforming council tax is the clearest example of how encrypted the whole thing was - it's taken the great political and economic minds this long to decipher the gibberish and translate it into potential consequences. So here's one of the main worries I have with Corbyn, either doesn't know details or doesn't want to tell us what his plans REALLY are. This is a classic example - if the manifesto contains the proposal to fundamentally change council tax / business rates, why the hell wasn't it a headline being actively pimped by the Labour party on manifesto release day? Why was it buried so deep inside an incomprehensible pile of crp that nobody but the most committed boffin could find it? Answer - because everything he says is so carefully crafted to avoid giving a straight answer to a straight question, he is being intentionally and purposefully deceitful in an attempt to mask the true extent of the damage he could do.
  2. Just laziness on my part, you know what I mean though... Unlike Dan who's got entirely the wrong end of the stick 😳
  3. Nothing at all to disagree with there! It's interesting that the discussion of internment, despite the howls of protest, is, inevitably, becoming a mainstream topic of discussion at many levels of current debate post the Manx Arena atrocity. I'd add my voice to the derision and opposition to this wholly inappropriate measure to regain some element of decency and safety to society. It IS wholly inappropriate and disproportionately expensive to seek to prevent the tiny % of a society from inflicting such inhuman behaviour upon the absolute majority of decent, law abiding citizens - those that engage with the social contract of sheltering under the (general) umbrella of safety and security provided by "the system", and in return uphold their part of the bargain by behaving in a decent manner. The immense cost of that internment, for the minuscule minority, directly deprives the elderly of social care, the young of education, the disabled of financial support, etc, etc, etc... Internment is wholly inappropriate and disproportionately expensive. Not forgetting, grouping these people together isn't that smart either. Hopefully there'll be a 💡 moment when our politicians find their 🏈s and realise there is a cheaper, more effective, permanent fix.
  4. 🤔 Which category within the parameters I specified do you most closely associate yourself with Mark...?
  5. I'll "see" yr question, and "raise you" a: Are the Arbtalk "traditional working" Labour voters (I feel I have be a bit more detailed there so as to differentiate between traditional working Labour voters and the new wave of idealist Marxist, Starbucks socialists, Islington hippies and career protestors that are contributing to the Momentum bow wave) feeling completely abandoned and unrepresented by the current Labour leadership which seems to be like a cast of the muppet show?
  6. Nuttal's interview with Neil which preceded the leaders pitches was, by contrast, fairly faultless and totally unflappable despite Neil's best efforts to get a rise out of him.
  7. 🤔 sometimes it's OK to be the tallest dwarf... 😂
  8. I've got MultiOne flail on a 7.3s Brett. I know that's not the question you're asking, but, perhaps some of my thoughts might help inform yr decision. Unlike tractor arm or digger mounted, you don't get lateral tilt or sideways "reach" with a front mounted avant/MO mounted flail (unless you opt for the side shift type available from the OEMs (at a cost of course)). Maybe that's not an issue, I didn't think it was, so opted for front mount. You get forward lift and lower and change of angle in the forward plane. Now of course I wish I had side shift!! If none of that matters, the only other thing I would happily chip in, having just bought a black splitter (splitting cone, wire brush and riddling drum) and a tree shear from Exac 1, I can confirm and attest to their excellent pre-sales engagement and service delivery. 👍🏻
  9. Rather than being party tied Mr E, I'm a floating voter. Not Tory last time due to local Tory candidate being a complete tit, Patterson as Environment Sec and badger cull to name a few issues. This time I've got a choice of 3! With the lead apparently closing, I'm going to be obliged to vote Tory (despite the same tit being the local candidate) to do my very small part to avoid catastrophe! If the poll lead had stayed as was, I'd have spoiled my paper.
  10. But Catastrobyn has already told the EU what he wants from the negotiation.... All they need to do now is tell him how much to pay to get it! Not forgetting everything else he has promised to provide to the UK public. Luckily he's got Disaster Abbot doing the sums.... It'll all be fine....
  11. Yes Mark. Interesting that you mention the "fluster" thing. All party politics aside, I was discussing with the wife the differing reactions that male and female have under "spotlight" pressure. Mindful that Paxman is a fairly aggressive interrogator, it's interesting to observe the differing reactions of (M) Corbyn and (F) May. Notwithstanding personality traits / characteristics, we'd agreed that May might flush and fluster under the direct pressure of 1 on 1 male aggressive questioning. Mind, this was a conversation we had before the sessions started. We both agreed that it would be probable that May would "fluster." Wife's view was that, try as you might, for a female, it's a gender trait that is very difficult to overcome and massively frustrating. I wonder if it would have been different if it was a female interrogator? Would May have delivered a more confidant output? (please don't take that as an indication that I, personally, considered May's output to lack credibility ) As a foot note, and still trying to rise above the party politics, it was my view that Corbyn had obviously been heavily schooled by the Red Flag media ops team but was still wholly unable to disguise his discomfort at being asked questions about subjects which he has spent his entire political career and personal belief promoting, but is unable to declare in his current role as aspiring PM. On a separate note, and in the spirit of the thread, albeit not "today", just seen this piece about the Walled Off Hotel: https://youtu.be/uripebwGfxI Just another millionaire Trot exploiting a political angle to support the Champagne Socialist lifestyle or a genuine, inspirational and thought provoking work of art??
  12. I like that people get excited about stuff - esp where it demonstrates how badly the public sector might be managing it's responsibility to the public. Out of interest John, which road(s)??
  13. Somewhat surprised and taken aback that you seem to be 'on-side' with the great (disgraceful perhaps a better precursor) Sheffield tree massacre Gary 😳🤔😳
  14. Paul, a while back I recall a mention that AAAC included membership of FSB. Is my memory serving me correctly there? If yes, is this also the case for AAAC lite?
  15. Protest groups, vigils, tree sentries, blogs, direct action, arrests.... None of which is activated easily or frivolously in British culture.... Perhaps greater awareness, solidarity, support and encouragement would be in order? Let's not forget, these protests and opposition are a direct result of the scandalous actions of the very authority which has been trusted and empowered as custodians of the public environment. I don't hold that the operators should, by necessity, be held liable. Particularly at the lower level, these guys have got bills to pay and jobs to keep the wolf away from the door. It's easy to be morally highbrow if comfortable enough to pick and choose your jobs, not so easy for the boys at the coalface. I lay the responsibility directly at the front desk of the Town Hall. 👉🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
  16. I haven't experienced the high rev scenario you describe and I haven't noticed the smell recently either. What I was experiencing sounds very different to your situation too. Mine was not a distinct strong smell, but rather a faint hint of burning. I suspect it was "newness" vaping off which would tie in with not sensing it recently.
  17. "minor pruning?" do you mean a small / specific area for a particular reason or a little bit all over? difficult to know what might be a valid consideration given the vagueness of the description, but consider the potential for change from shade / partial shade of inner canopy foliage if removing outer canopy foliage - can be detrimental for Beech, just guessing similar might apply in your circumstances....
  18. You've allowed your eye to be drawn away from the main headline on that page....!
