  1. You know full well I’ve got certain suppressed Marxist tendencies! Did you hear Mick Lynch giving it to James O’Brexit on LBC Friday lunchtime - it was legendary! JOB was somewhat surprised to find one of his preferred allies had such anti EU sentiment - genuine Lefty attitude rather than posh twat North London Labour. In favour of EEC but you can stick the EU up your channel tunnel 😎
  2. I’ve often wondered about that. Whether the federation of small business is worthwhile. They pissed me off a good while back and never really recovered lost ground (🧐thinks - AA) I can (kind of) see the worth of FSB lobbying government but trouble with a union would be , unless everyone joined it’d be pointless!
  3. This part could benefit from a little further unpacking Jules. Whilst I would absolutely agree with the words above, we in the arb world can get too absorbed by the arb aspects of 'amenity' in a CA potentially to the exclusion of the actual purpose and justification for the CA which should be available in a stand alone document. I'm not suggesting that tree(s) aren't afforded protection in a CA - clearly they are, what I'm saying is, just because they are trees and just because they are in a CA often fails to recognise the actual purpose for the CA which may not even mention trees what so ever. I have this example locally (which results in much nugatory work prior to removing offensive Leylandii, poor form self set Syc etc, where the justification for CA of a picturesque fishing harbour is comprehensively laid out in a detailed document and there is absolutely no mention of trees or arb amenity what so ever. It's all historic buildings, cobbled streets, shop fronts etc. Its just that trees ARE included in CA protection whether they contribute to the genuine historic conservation or not. I guess its not that big a deal really, just a bit of a nuisance...
  4. I agree to a point with some of that. I only operate in the 'micro' environment in which I exist. I have no interest in any other operating scale model - perhaps I could / should, but I don't. That's it. Of course there are macro influences at the micro level - we all know the housing market is turbo charged, that white collar lard asses are abandoning heavily populated metropolitan areas post covid, selling real estate that still has inflated value and infesting (that's not a typo for 'investing', I did mean infesting) the rural areas where their buck goes a lot further and they have probably trousered around 500k in free capital from relocation / downsizing to a work-from-home or hybrid work profile. That extra money is literally sloshing around the micro local economies with most (if not all trades) hoovering up vast swathes of new money. Of course it is a time limited opportunity but its not as if work was slow before - its just manic now and that is leaving some people with extended lead times to complete or finding the extra cash to bump themselves up the priority listing. People are so impatient which kind of annoys me in the arb world since 'problems' rarely happen overnight and are more likely a consequence of sustained neglect - the blow-ins buck that trend but that's a whole other topic. The reason I don't care about the problems of the bigger players is because they chose that life and business model. Climbers and groundies get shite wages in big companies because, out of the finite amount of money available on any job, the big boys have to pay for fat bastard business consultants, office staff, company cars, directors share bonuses and all the other bollox that takes a bite out of the climbers cake. In my world, the customer gets the CEO, the H&S expert, the sales rep, the QA guy, the office bitch and the tea boy all in one package, on site at every job and available on the phone at any time if the customer falls into category 1 or 2 of my previous post. I guess I have a fundamental difficulty with your final point about working class. What is working class? Whilst I am probably at my happiest when feeding the chipper (whilst maintaining a comprehensive overview of the entire job site) there is no doubt that is a manual / unskilled task. Does that make me working class? I fail to meet the criteria on just about every other recognised measure although I do have rough skin on hands? 😩
  5. I can knock the skin off this rice pudding straight away.... As Mick says - who cares what a toffee nosed tee owner or that fat prick that wrote the article for the arb magazine thinks... You tell me what you want doing, I'll tell you what I'd suggest, if we meet in the middle we'll agree a price for my service, I'll do what I set out to do and you'll pay me. If, as occasionally happens, we get on really well, we might end up as pals. If as occasionally happens, both parties are just happy that a good deal was done, that's fine and finally, if, as occasionally happens, we fall out, we'll part under what ever circumstances materialise. I couldn't give a monkeys if someone thinks I'm a thicko for doing a job I love, when I want to, how I want to, where I want to and only ever for WHO I want to at a price that I set. Problems in the industry? I don't see 'em.
  6. Yome both off and on the mark at the same time E5ggeer. The Tories have presided over such a big pile of dog poo, but Labour are so lacking in credibility as to remain completely unelectable. Even with (maybe even especially because) weme in such a state of affairs, people will not trust Labour when times are hard. All a Labour government can ever do - as example shows us - is start off when things ain’t too bad and get kicked out by the time they’ve fooked it up. Imagine how that would end up if Labour got in when it was ‘bad’ and got kicked out when it was worse! Whats the old saying? The only way [Labour] could end up with a £million was if they started out with 2!
  7. Defamation and malicious falsehood—publication — 2022 WWW.LEXISNEXIS.CO.UK The following TMT practice note provides comprehensive and up to date legal information on Defamation and malicious...
  8. The AA really ought to take advice from a reputable business consultant (I wonder if they know any? 😂) or perhaps better still, a legal firm specialising in publishing and 3rd party content. There are specific liabilities for publishing 3rd party content which are not excused by the issue of a disclaimer. Oh the irony if a low-life, scum sucking bottom feeder were to demonstrate harm to their business reputation from a malicious falsehood.
  9. Tree Preservation Orders and trees in conservation areas - GOV.UK WWW.GOV.UK Explains the legislation governing Tree Preservation Orders and tree protection in conservation areas.
  10. No requirement for consent to have work done to tree(s) within a CA by, or on behalf of, the LA. The example given may not apply to the OPs post unless it is the LA, or an agent of the LA doing the work...
  11. It's an interesting - if probably reasonably rare - question. I can't say I've ever seen sufficient detail in any legislation which would dive down to that level of detail - it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume the offending branches cannot exist without the tree [which is within the CA] so where the branches are 'of' the tree, and the tree is afforded CA protective status, then so would the branches. As Stubby says, unlikely to be so urgent a need for pruning as to make a s211 notice an unreasonable ask. Notice will either be unopposed or a TPO will be initiated [by no means a frivolous undertaking by an LA.] Of course if the offending branches were causing an actionable nuisance, they could be removed without recourse to LA in any case. If they are not, no harm submitting a s211.
  12. It just says - lawsuit waiting to happen and carries the general warning - use this and you will die a slow and painful death for putting this sh1t on Mother Earth.
  13. Many ways to skin a cat ‘eh Mr S 😂 My first reaction would normally be to stove his head in with a shovel and bury him in a shallow lime pit or toss him down a mine shaft but I think I’m becoming more moderate as the years pass.....
  14. Of course the majority here would ‘probably’ share your (presumed) outrage and ‘probably’ share the belief that it wuz the neighbour wot done it, but the potential consequence of a confrontation or even a banner could be the opening of a neighbour dispute which could end up being ‘declarable’ (in the event of house sale - which could reduce sale price) or just be the beginning of a potentially long running unpleasant episode with the neighbour if you stay put. Yes, of course deeply frustrating and a trespass / insult but such circumstances often warrant a tactical pause and the careful consideration of implications and or alternative courses of action.
  15. Try Forestry Commission forest research - not sure where you are but they will possibly give you an indicative price for comparison. What do you plan to do with whatever data any such test might provide? I mean, even if it does confirm cause of dieback, what can you actually DO with that knowledge. It’s not as if you’ll have enough, with that data alone, to take any form of litigation.
  16. Mheh - no mention of China nor SJWs.... Thats where the “real” threat sits....
  17. The pasty of independence..... No need for detail after an opener like that 😂
  18. We had ‘em last time we wuz up there Egger (Burslem area - I had to take Mrs to The Vale to get a hoodie the week after Vale won something or other at Wembley. I took the Mrs and nipper up to Londinium, well, kinda. I dropped em at Amersham to get Metropolitan line into Wembley and I went up to Oxford to walk the dog. Then we went up to see the in-laws. Was going to give you a bell but was only a flying visit.
  19. The perennial ‘problem’ is homeowner PD applications or architects that don’t have a pet arborist on call. Both end up with lose - lose situations. Location is key - where is the application site - then somebody might say they can have a look. It never going to give the impression of being the sort of job a genuinely engaged, passionate and professional Arb would drop tools to seek out because it starts by giving the impression that the extension is a foregone conclusion and minimal expense is required to solve the problem. Hold my beer while I completely re-schedule my diary....
  20. Ah. I scoped out the CMC Spiderlift variants and to get anywhere near useful - from memory - was £70k ballpark.
  21. I have faith in bucket loads Mick - just not in this type of scenario. The cut and thrust of differing opinions is always a joy to behold - and some of it is even bears a passing resemblance to relevance at times. I didn’t / haven’t suggested chap goes away - I’ve just thrown my tuppence worth into the mix early on. Get someone credible to come round and have a proper look at it. That is my considered contribution to the questions - I stand by it as the best advice that’ll be available here - all I’ve done is circumvent all the pish and drivel that will be proffered.
