  1. Is there any scope for a crane, even from a neighbouring piece of land? There are some pretty big tracked cranes available now. Any scope to float sections to a nearby landing area? Failing that lots of flat bottomed boats and a lot of patience...... Either way it's gonna be interesting; take loads of piccies..
  2. When I was climbing full time (I now polish the office chair with my arse) I used Haix Protector Pro all the time; the high length never bothered me and I got through about 6 pairs; I managed to make 2 or 3 pairs of them last for 3 years before shifting to the Meindl which were stonkingly good; the only reason for the change was the supplier had run out and I was desperate for a new pair. One of my guys used to swear by the Haix Trekker as they had a slightly lower length up the ankle/leg. But as the other posters have said, if you've found the Airstreams comfy and they work well, get another pair.
  3. That's stunning; looks like a river or glacier running through a ravine
  4. Be careful if you're intending on pruning or felling, the sap can be an irritant
  5. That's bang out of order, have you told Ebay?
  6. I'm about 75% domestic with the rest made up of parish council, schools etc; had a real dry spell last year about March through to May (put that down to the awful start to the year and no home owners venturing into their gardens). Normally we're flat out with a lead time of 6-8 weeks; having said that we're currently booking into mid September already......
  7. My bad; 'It most definitely is Xylaria polymorpha'........
  8. Looks like Dead Man's Fingers - Xylaria polymorpha, it could also be Xylaria longipes; I'm plumping for X. polymorpha
  9. Really take your time and check those engine numbers; mine threw a con rod, luckily caught it in time and managed to get it fixed but cost a small fortune in the end:thumbdown:
  10. Whatever you use, make sure it's nice and small; nowt worse then getting the knot stuck in a fork Out of interest I'd go for the fishermans..
  11. I was told by my last but one accountant to keep a diary of work vs pleasure use; as Stephen's just said you've got to be realistic. If you ever do find yourself sat opposite the tax man you can hand over evidence of your claims etc.
  12. Used them and really didn't get on with them. Managed to open one whilst aloft once, scared the living **** out of me:thumbdown:
  13. Very true, best we educate those who make the decisions.....
  14. Agree with all previous comments reference not reducing but more worryingly why are you quoting by percentages? State a current height and a proposed finished height; from a climbers perspective it's easier to gauge, if it did have a TPO or within a CA the app/notification would get refused and if the client were to argue the toss about not taking enough off, you can point out that the tree has been pruned to the specified amount - rant over
  15. I've worked in Madeira felling Eucs in the mountains and the fall on the lower side was sooooo steep you couldn't even reach where to start the sink and felling cuts, had to begin the cuts from a rope and harness before scrabbling onto the higher side to finish off the cuts; definitely wasn't for the light hearted but cracking fun
  16. Walter 'Stubby' White, certainly has a ring to it......
  17. Great vid; chainsaws, rigging, stunning scenery and AC/DC - what more do you need?
  18. Many years ago I used to have a tag line on my truck and under the company name saying 'Don't wait for a storm, call A Gale'
  19. If you've specified what and where you're doing the work (i.e. front garden only) and she's agreed said work AND the quoted amount then she's in the wrong. I've had this a few times with clients regards to how long a job takes and my usual retort is 'Well if it had taken me longer would you have paid me more?' You gave them a quote which is different to an estimate and such the quote is fixed (unless the spec changes). Inform them, diplomatically, that you have the weight of the law behind you and should they refuse to pay you will be talking to your solicitor regarding payment. I tend not to tell clients how long a job will take and either post or email the quote over; emails best as you've a chain of correspondence linking them to the agreement.
  20. We've a Jensen A530 and a T/wolf 150; if there's a choice the guys will take the Jensen which is the model with the sweeping in feed not the fold down feed in hopper
  21. That looks a big chipper too, not nice at all..
  22. I've been office bound the past couple of days (office is at home on the ground floor leading into the garden); we had 31.7 in the garden yesterday and it's already 28.4. South facing sun trap doesn't help.......
  23. Seconded for Sloths comments
  24. Photo's of the tree and surrounding area would be good
  25. It was definitely a monster, got away from me a bit in the end but thoroughly enjoyed doing; nowt better than looking at ancient trees...
