  1. Ok, so to get this roughly clear my (made up figures and "annualised") tax liabilities are,,,,, I turnover £85k (im over the VAT threshold and need to register for VAT) My profit on the £85k is £35k Allowable business expenses (materials etc) £50k Im paying Self assessed on the whole 35K so thats £5500 What is the VAT situation? do i pay Vat on the 50k? (thats £10k!) but i get that back right? Do i pay VAT on my profit of £35k ? (thats £7k) ***************************************** Now, if i go Ltd, I could pay myself 12k (all i need) So im now paying income tax on 12k which is £905 Im paying corporation tax at 19% on £23k which is £4375 Im assuming the VAT stays the same?
  2. Hi Guys, Im a fencing person (boo hiss) Im going to have to go VAT reg. Previously ive always done all my own accounts, i spoke to my wifes accountant, and she said ok, if you go VAT go Ltd at the same time. Whats the general concensus on doing both at the same time, pitfalls, pros cons etc? Anything you did you wish you didnt visa versa? My dad said i need to go through things with an accountant first to make sure things are done in the correct way but i wanted to get some info from you guys first so that i can ask some more specific industry type questions

  7. I use my grandfathers, very precious to me.
  8. Everything is a compromise. Im a fencer. Had a single cab hilux 4 x 4 = not enough interior space, not enough outside space really, but got a trailer. Inside space became an issue = got a ranger supercab 4 x 4, great interior compromise, external not really enough, but just manageable so continue to use the trailer, except when you are in tight locations. Now, were doing a lot more residential fencing and clearing the old fencing is an issue, but still do lots of off road work in fields (where the trailer is an issue) So the compromise, keep the supercab and get a daily or transit as well, for the summer and residential stuff

  14. Hi, i was speaking to someone about this the other day, the only downside i could see was the price of parts and the things that break easily loads of second hand mirrors and lens covers on ebay for transits, but not much for jap models
  15. Sorry James, I cant help Adam
  16. Hi, Im in the same situation as you, with the exception that ive just done it! About 6 months ago i bought a p10 post knocker from protech Protech Machinery | Post drivers To add to my Kanga 620d. I had hoped that it would enable quicker fencing but more importantly better fencing. Although it works well, it is a process of constant re adjustment (making sure stakes are upright) knocker is upright. I certainly think it would be better off of a mini digger than the mini skidsteer (more stable). Going to look at a tracked knocker (well making one). Tractor ones are great, if the terrain is pretty good (no low trees) and you don't mind getting in and out. 18. good thing about hedges (even though i hate doing them) is they are pretty regular repeat business, especially if you can be flexible on when you do it (august is great when other work can be a bit on the slow side)

  21. Great, thanks, ill mix water in with the petrol instead! On the CCTV thing, is it ever going to result in a prosecution? If i get pictures, are the police just going to say thanks but do nothing (its the impression i get). Who isnt worried about stuff getting nicked!
  22. Hi, We havent been done yet, but feel an enevitability of one morning im going to find it gone. Ive read threads and have invested in some security lighting/cameras and double security chain everything i can. without being too obvious! Im after some of the implications and technicalities that can result and other things i can do. Ive heard of people who have been caught on camera and nothing can be done because there wasnt appropriate signage? Is this true? What are the chances of getting stuff back if you mark it/tag it. One thing we have done, but not sure if its a good idea weve mixed a 5ltr petrol can with sugar and petrol (we all know which one it is) and maked it unleaded only NOT 2 STROKE, and done the same with Road diesel but with 30/70 water, is this asking for trouble if it gets knicked will i find my dog dead? Any ideas on anything?
