  1. We'll be running a Horse Logging course in Essex on 6th/7th June. 4 Places currently available. For more information click here http://goo.gl/rzDb0T Perfect for anyone who might be thinking about taking up Horse Logging, or someone wishing to see what a horse is capable of. Will be taking place in a fantastic SSSI woodland with one of our Suffolk Punch horses. Cheers, Matt
  2. Interesting, I bought a 560xpg in October that seized after a month due to a faulty carb, so possibly not the first. Also the saws are likely to be a similar vintage so makes you wonder if there is a dodgy batch of carbs out there! Mine was fixed by under warranty by FR Jones and has been brilliant ever since.
  3. Thanks Guys , I'll double check when I am over at the yard tomorrow that it's 14mm and then order one up.
  4. Not sure. Do you mean 14mm bar nuts?
  5. Hi All, I'm after a 36"+ Bar for my Sachs Dolmar 143 as I'm about to get into a bit of Alaskan milling and I have a super 30" Oak butt available to me to which my current 28" bar is not going to big enough for. Anyone know where best to source one? Ebay hasn't got anything over 30" and I've had a search of dealers websites but seems that I may need to adapt a Stihl one? Thanks, Matt
  6. I have a "Jet" Winch with 1600kg lifting capacity that I am pretty sure is exactly the same as the ACE 1600, just a different badge. Draper and a few other companies appear to do exactly the same although you'd need to double check. The Jet is easily available (I got mine from Machine Mart about 4 years ago) and the shear pins are easy to get too, Stanton Hope sell in in bags of 10 for about £8 and they are available online. Hope that helps.
  7. I live in Chelmsford and I use Spud for serious stuff, Santon's for anything quick! Last time I posted the saw to Spud and then picked it up one evening after work. It's a 3hr round trip, but that said Stanton's is an hour, you can only go during work hours and you can wait quite a while to be served if it's busy, plus you always end up spending another £100 on "while I'm here" purchases!
  8. Thanks Felix, you're always welcome if you fancy coming to visit again.
  9. Very sorry to hear your news. We lost our 18yo mare Holly (the one in my avatar) back in August, she was my first logging horse and her passing left me at a complete loss. However have two youngsters we are bringing on and we are back up and running and all is good, but life will never quite be the same. They are a big part of your life, especially when you work with them everyday. Best of luck in the search for your new horse.
  10. This is true, found it out the hard way!
  11. Looking good Spud, can't wait to get my hands on it and try it out!
  12. I'd rather not say to be honest
  13. Timber is now sold, thanks for all the enquiries. Matt
  14. Love my 560xpg, but it did need a complete engine rebuild after 5 days use! Faulty carb apparently, but I would still buy another one!
  15. Forgot to say, no VAT to pay as I am not registered.
  16. I estimate around 65t, possibly more. Hope that helps!
  17. Hi All, Just finished a large thinning project and have the cord for sale. All cut to 3m lengths. Roughly 60% oak, 20% ash and 20% sycamore. Pictures below. I measure it at 100m3+ stacked. Is on a hard standing road within the woods. Located with the RM4 post code. Artic access should be ok, but turning may be an issue so could involve a 300m reverse off the main road. An 8 wheeler might be better. There is a tight-ish 3m gate but we can cut the posts off if necessary It is just within the Low Emission Zone (by about 200m!). I want to sell as a job lot ideally. Buyer to arrange Haulage. I can organise access during daylight hours for viewing/collection. First reasonable offer secures, PM me. Cheers, Matt
  18. Yes hand stacked to 1m, although some of them have taken 4 of us to roll/lift on! Is the 33m3 before or after the 40%?
  19. Great. Ok, so assuming 100m3, and a conversion of 0.65 (it is all pretty straight), I have 65 solid cube. 20cm mid diameter is about right and was felled last week so that gives me: 39m3 Oak = 41t 13m3 Ash = 10t 13m3 Syc = 11t Total= 62t So enough for at least 2 arctics with a little contingency which is basically what I was trying to work out. Thanks all!
  20. That's what I thought too, but need to sell it on straight from site so need to judge what the customer is going to get before the lorry turns up if I can.
  21. Sadly it wasn't intentional, but glad it tickled you
