  1. Thanks All! Payloads are what I thought. I've had enquiries from customers for both tonnage and volume, so just trying to work out approximately what volume I can get on board. My difficulty is working out the weights of the stacks that I have. I have about 60m3 out so far stacked in 3m lengths, roughly 60% oak, and 20% ash and 20% sycamore. With probably about another 40m3 to come out next week, so hopefully about 100m3 stacked. With air gaps (25%?) and then wet weight (0.7t/m3?) then it should be about 52t. Does that sound about right? Cheers, Matt
  2. Hi All, Can anyone advise on the cubic capacity of both artic and 8 wheel timber lorries. Also what are their payloads? About to start to market my cordwood and want to accurately work out how many loads I have. Cheers Matt
  3. Indeed The carb kits are listed on eBay USA so hopefully we can get one. It would be great to have a saw with a large bar on as a back-up, probably only come out once a month plus a very occasional bit of milling, but good to know it's there if I need it. Overall it looks in good order, the Bar looks as though it's done very little work, it has a spare chain too, pretty good for a freebie! Will see if I can work out how to post a pic!
  4. Hi All, I was gifted a Sachs Dolmar 143 with a 28" bar today by a friend. He's owned it for a number of years, worked in Forestry for a short time and has been gathering dust since. Anyone know anything about these saws? The only information I have found out so far is that it is 95cc!! Seems in good order, although I think I will send it to Spud for a once over before I try to use it. Hoping it will be good for running an Alaskan saw mill and dealing with anything that the 560xp won't! Cheers, Matt
  5. Have put about 5 days work on the 560 now, it is a belter of a saw ... or rather it was! Cut out on my yesterday mid-cut while de-crowning a largish oak and wouldn't restart. Spark plug white on one side, black on t'other, really hot and seemed to be lacking compression. Back at FR Jones for repair today
  6. 560xpg
  7. Give me a couple of days, just waiting for confirmation of another order and then can let you know what I will have and when. Cheers, Matt

  9. Sorry, probably can't help then, what I have available is mainly unseasoned. Matt
  10. I may be able to help. How much are you after, when do you need it by and do you have transport? Matt
  11. Hi, I've tried sending a couple of messages via the "contact us" page, but keep getting a message saying "invalid redirect" or something similar. Cheers, Matt
  12. I've got a Riko 16t trailed splitter with 9hp engine to split my billets - has split everything I've put on it so far including some pretty nasty twisty hornbeam butts.
  13. Managed to get out and use the saw today, can't believe how good it is!!! I am a happy man! 😃
  14. I'd noticed this too, and you're correct depending on what type of oil you are using it seems. The manual says that if you are using oil rated as ISO EGB, then you should use 33:1. I have bought a bottle of Stihl Super to use with mine which is rated as ISO EGD. The Husqvarna XP and low smoke oils are also ISO EGD rated, so I am planning on mixing at 50:1. That said the standard Stihl red HP is also ISO EGD rated. Haven't actually set mine up yet, too many site visits and log deliveries over the last week! Will be running her up for the first time on Thursday!
  15. Know what you mean Nick! Early days yet, and when it comes down to it ease of sale is a big factor. Let's talk when timber starts getting roadside!
  16. I'd love to, but I am planning on keeping back around 80-100t already and my yard isn't big enough for more!! Like it! Think what I'll do is to start getting timber on the ground and then advertise it from here by the 26t load in 3m lengths, best offer gets it!
  17. Thanks for all the useful info. Ordered it with 15inch bar as that is what I prefer to use day to day coppicing, but will be getting an 18 for when I am working on larger timber. Might order up an 8pin sprocket too for use with the 15!
  18. Thanks Stubby, that's useful advice. Any thoughts on two stroke oil? What do you use? Had a good look over it tonight and I hadn't realised how long it had been since I last used anything other than a Stihl saw, probably over 10 years! It seems quite alien in my hands, everything in different places! It's going to take a while to get used to I think. Can't wait to get out there cutting now though!
  19. Hi All, I had a new 560xpg arrive yesterday Am not going to get a chance to try it until the weekend as I am stuck in the office for the next few days which is not so good! Any advice from you 560xp veterans on running in? The handbook says to work it hard on a big log for 3-4 minutes after the first start to calibrate the autotune. Anything else I should be doing? Also any advice on the best two stroke to use? I have been using standard Stihl red two stroke on my MS260 for years without any issues, but a friend advised it is better to use one of the higher grade "green" two strokes such as HP Super. Also any preventative maintenance you would advise on these? Cheers, Matt
  20. Thanks Nick, will be in touch. Cheers, Matt
  21. Thanks Nick, would you collect or would you need it delivered? Still early days yet, I am just sorting the contracts with the landowners, but good to see the demand is out there!! Will contact anyone interested once I start getting things road side. I spoke to a haulage firm today also said 10ft is ideal for their lorry so looks like 10ft is what I'll be cutting it to! Took delivery of a shiny new 560xpg today so keen to get out there now and start felling! Thanks all, Matt
  22. Thanks guys, will let you know! With any luck I should start being able to sell it from January onwards, so not too far in the future! Any thoughts on lengths you would want it in? Matt
  23. Hi All, I am in the process of setting up a couple of agreements with landowners to manage thier woodlands in Essex/London. I am going to be taking the timber as part-payment some of which I will process and sell as firewood myself, but I will be felling/extracting much more than I need, so will need to sell as roundwood (or cordwood depeding on which term you prefer!). At the end of this winter I estimate I will have around 100t spare, maybe more, and it will be decent hardwoods: Ash,Oak, Hornbeam, Sycamore, Hazel, Maple etc of various diameters. I wanted to check what is the best length to crosscut it to in order to sell it wholesale and fit it onto a timber lorry? I would have thought it would be best to offer a "delivered" price, so can anyone recommend a haulage firm to move it for me, and what sort of cost am I looking at for this? Thanks guys! Matt
  24. What sort of volumes are you looking at extracting over what distance? Also what is your budget for buying the equipment? I looked into lots of other options before deciding to go down the horse-route, and it's all down to volume and distance and what the access is like. I started horse-logging because they can simply do what machines can't in many cases, and I specialise in managing senstive/publc woodlands where ground damage needs to be kept to a minimum. I wouldn't say that horses are right for all circumstances, but when used in the right way you'd be surprised how capable horses can be!
