  1. All you need is "Dear Mr Contracts Manager, Please note that our rates are increasing by 9.5% with effect from dd/mm/yy. This change will be reflected in future invoices. Should you have any queries concerning this then please feel free to contact me. Yours sincerely, Mr Doobin" They'll either accept the increase with no questions asked and will understand that it's all to do with inflation and increase in fuel prices etc, or they contact you and you can explain that it's all to do with inflation and increase in fuel prices etc. Give them a month's notice and they shouldn't really have cause to complain. I wouldn't mention their increase in commission at all - it's just pointless. You know why they've increased their commission - it's due to increased business operating costs and a need to make a profit. Exactly the same reasons as you need to increase yours.
  2. Has anyone here actually purchased a 'fake' saw and can confirm the lack of safety features? Just wondering what they are like in real life.
  3. ART could cover themselves easily though, by saying "fits all ropes up to 13mm, some splices may not fit through" or something similar. Because it does fit all 13mm ropes, including Marlow. Just not all splices.
  4. The seller of the chipper has gone a bit cold on me. I asked if I could pay by Western Union and he said he would prefer bank transfer. So I told him I would either prefer cash on collection or else PayPal, and that I would like to see a picture of him next to the chipper and a picture of his photocard driving licence or passport. Dunno why, but he hasn't replied yet
  5. You could have one next door...
  6. Last day off today after my cardiac angiogram last week, so it's ebay time. I'm tempted to buy the chipper, but want to check it's all legit..... I'll report my progress later.....
  7. I've just sent him a question asking if he'll accept payment by Western Union
  8. Bullet points of what you do are good if you have space. We've picked up a lot of jobs because people have seen we do what they want.
  9. Joe, brilliant post. I wonder....has anyone ever thought of bungeeing upright out of a tree with the bungee line the right length to enable a gentle feet first landing? That'll be quick - no friction. Just need to work out the drag of the bungee line....
  10. Try Air Products. Click the link and it'll take you straight to a list of your local agents.... https://apdirect.airproducts.com/agentlocator/AgentResults.aspx?lat=53.454020126966626&lng=-2.76953125&region=GB&lcid=2057&deliveryAgentsOnly=N. You could always try a stick welder. Funny people don't seem to be able to get good results with them in these modern days despite brilliant machines and self-shielding sticks
  11. A decent machine, proper sticks for the job and auto visor and it'll look fine.
  12. It's something really simple for the logo - just trying to get something leafy, maybe a single leaf, with company name. Similar to what this company have: Landscapers | Landscape Company | Lawn Care | Landscaping Design | Hydroseeding | Mulch | Top Soil | Hardscape Design | Concrete Paver Patios | Landscaping Contractors serving Harleysville, Souderton, Bluebell, Bucks County, Valley Forge. Our Landsca. Difficulty I'm having is that my mate's company name is so flippin' long, and this is perhaps the only sort of design that works.
  13. 33% of the work related cuts I have seen have been due to a numpty being careless with a Silky. 33% were due to careless use of a pair of Ames secateurs, and the final one was due to work mate gashing his head on a hook on side of truck. Not seen a single chainsaw cut.
  14. Garden gates, angle iron and exhausts you might as well ditch mig and go stick. Much less hassle.
  15. I wonder if one of you might be able to give me a hand??? I'm putting together a web site for my mate's landscaping firm and also trying to get a logo idea for me. But I'm struggling with how to put a together something that looks good. If anyone has experience of this sort of thing, please help me! There's a couple of beer tokens available
  16. Right then, I spoke to land owner during the week (he's a client of mine) and he's happy for us to spend some time there. I just need to choose a date and check with him that it's free (the Scouts and family friends sometimes use the land for camping). I'll keep you all updated.
  17. Small 10 to 15kg is useless for most fence work where you need to break out old concrete. Firstly, there's not enough weight behind the tool to do the job. Secondly, this means you end up trying to force it into concrete which doesn't work any better. Thirdly, the small breakers are too short and so you end up having to bend down too much to do the job and often you can't reach deep enough down the hole to break the bottom of the concrete out. You'd be better off going for at least a 25kg machine and letting the machine do the work - it's so much easier.
  18. Don't forgot data protection act when storing customer info..... you might accidentally leave your laptop with all this info on a bus, and then next thing you'll find yourself in the paper when someone accesses it and passes out information that a local councillor has had a TPOd tree removed
  19. It's within the EU so no problem. Provided the French owner paid tax on it then that's all that's needed.
  20. Glad you weren't more seriously injured - lucky. Definitely worth posting incidents like this as it is so easy doing all sorts of jobs to get complacent, so it's always good to read how easily things can go boobs up.
  21. It goes like this. My client agrees for some tree work to be done. The tree work is too much for me to do - I landscape, I fence, I climb for fun, but I don't want to go up trees with chainsaws and it's certainly not what I'm qualified to do. So I get another firm in to do the tree job, negotiate a price for the job with them and I give them the job to do how they see best and pay them to do the job. The job they do is theirs. I help out with dragging brash and logging just because I want to. When it's all finished my client pays me. I believe I'm in the clear. The NFU lady seemed to think so. She just didn't want to insure for me telling the tree firm how to work, which I don't as they know best and I leave them to it.
  22. I'd tell the police that I suspected he was into dodgy porn and get his computers seized too, just to land him in it proper.
  23. Nothing as nice as Ferraris. It was all modified Mazda RX7s, Nissan Skylines, Mitsubishi Evos, a couple of Subarus and a heap of 4x4. Was good while it lasted, but the pound suddenly became worth 130yen instead of over 200yen and it became hard to justify the amount of energy I was putting in to get anything back!
  24. I told you when we woke up in the morning at that hotel that I'd send you something nice as a "thank you" for the one night stand. I can't believe you've forgotten so quickly - you told me it's not the sort of thing you do very often. B*tch
