  1. On the basis that not even Google knows, could it be a typo....?
  2. Danish oil is quite good, I slap that on everything, indoors and out, mix it with a bit of Rustins wood dye if I want to change the colour. You'll need to let the wood dry out before you seal and or try to sand it...
  3. Ha! I might try that one!
  4. True, forgot about that.... I use a couple of Ultra-O's in my set up already, nice and spacious!
  5. Who did he buy them from? Was it the guy in Leominster? If so I believe he is a tree surgeon himself so it's surprising that he's selling tat....
  6. Not good. I'll have a look at them next time I get them out....
  7. Presumably it was round one of the holes for adjusting the height? The build quality is VERY questionable I must admit. I'll keep a close eye on them until I can afford some nice ones...
  8. The Ultra-O's are symetrical so you get a nice straight pull through them. I wouldn't have thought it would be much different with offset crabs mirroring each other so the rope lines down through the spines.
  9. I have those monkey metal spurs. I would question how the hell they would get broken.... ! At the time though they were all I could afford and I have to say, seem to do the job. Like I say, not pretty though....! Unless I hear any horror stories it will be the Harkie ali spikes when I can scrape together some cash.
  10. I have Stihl & Oregon leather chainsaw gloves which I wear on the ground [and in the garden, great for dragging brambles!] and I wear ordinary Youngstown work gloves when I'm climbing, they're quite snug fitting with like a faux alcantara palm, I only forget to put them on once when I'm chucking a throw line up! I can even tie & untie knots in them.... Youngstown Gloves – Official Site for Youngstown Performance Work Gloves. Plus Gloves are designed for fit, durability and value. They don't last long mind you....
  11. I know Paul at Specialist Arb, he's done some fabrication for me before, nice guy, lots of holidays! Is the Duncans chipper PTO or donkey engine? And who is JW in Three Cocks? Not come across them...bit of a jaunt for me from the other side of Tenbury though...
  12. If you already have the gear to ascend on a prusik, just changing to a more responsive friction hitch on a split tail [with a prusik, micropulley & crab to self tend] will speed things up no end. I was using a prusik foot loop as well but have added a croll onto that so I can move it up without the struggling that comes from a prusik. I can actually motor up the trees now by my standards! However, as I've found, it won't be long before you're wanting to try a hitch climber, so just as well spend the 70 quid now and be done with it.... that's my next purchase! You should just about be able to see a blakes hitch on the split tail, the pulley under it is clipped to a prusik on the standing line, the croll is in my hand being clipped on with the loop hanging down. This could only be easier if I hung another foot loop and used both feet, it's just stand up, sit down, lift the croll, stand up, sit down. Piece of cake!
  13. Do Arrow run road tow chippers then? I didn't know that, have used Arrow for years but for construction hire. Thanks!
  14. Great, I'll bear that in mind, thanks!
  15. It is a myth that the 'banking sector' costs the country a fortune, we are confusing high street banks [a retail business just like a shop] with commercial banks [the 'city']. High street banks: Bailed out by the government Lent money they didn't have to people who couldn't afford to pay it back Borrowed money they couldn't afford to pay back Invested very poorly and lost a lot of money Didn't keep a sufficient pile of 'real cash' Placed all responsibility for checking credit worthiness in machines rather than intelligent people. Commercial banks: Are allowed to fail [Like Barings] Not bailed out by the tax payer Do not provide private banking Manage investments of large organisations Are actually fairly stable Generate HUGE revenue for the UK The commercial banking sector is in a bit of a pickle because it's trying to generate money to support the high street banks to whom they lend, who need to lend the money to us to buy over priced houses, cars and electrical goods. The 'banking sector proper' does still generate cash for the UK and is NOT a massive drain on our economy. So when people refer to 'fat cat bankers', they're thinking about the wrong people. The mythical enemy in the 'banking sector' is actually the guys writing the software which all our financial lives depend on - 'computer says no' - and the very poor HR management of high street banks who have done away with proper bank managers and farmed it all out to cheap call centres in the quest for higher returns for YOU AND I - the shareholders! [i'm not one but we all could be if we wanted] The 'crisis' in the banking sector is NOT down to 'the city' or 'fat cat bankers'... it's down to some very poor decisions regarding the structuring of high street banks staff, the previous 'prudent' chancellor and his suppression of the base rate, and our insatiable appetite for MORE STUFF.... The city actually has very little to do with the current situation and needs to be protected, it is the one thing which allows us to maintain our position of importance in the world and if we lose it, what else do we have?
  16. Oh...but don't panic....! You will sort it, just probably not with Moorcroft....
  17. I think Moorcroft are indeed a legit debt recovery agency who do work on behalf of Lloyds, I think it was them who I ran up against over a parking ticket from Herefordshire Council as well. However, that doesn't mean it's correct. What they definitely are though is nasty bast&rds... They initially handle it in the office, then hand it over to their bailiffs who are basically thugs and have NO REGARD for the law, so try to nip it in the bud before it gets that far. Write to them and send it recorded delivery, requesting copies of all information they hold relating to this debt and ask for them to confirm who retained their services. If it says Lloyds on the letter, then phone LLoyds NOW on 0845 3 000 000 [keep pressing * to bypass the options] and then give them all the information you have and ask them if it's correct and if not, can they put you through to the department which deals with arrears & debt. It may have been from the court, although I don't think they're actually court bailiffs so despite what they WILL tell you they CANNOT legally enter your property. If they do indeed have a court order to recover the debt you need to find out which court issued it and request a form which needs completing and returning which will freeze the order. Whether it's correct or not, I hate to tell you this but this could become a real pain in the arse and you need to take it seriously and sort it out IMMEDIATELY or they could really spoil Christmas. If the letter is from Moorcroft - Moorcroft Debt Recovery - then PLEASE don't put off doing something about it. I can tell you from experience that it's the most horrid experience I've ever been through, if you have a family you need to stop this before they do set the bailiffs on you because as I say, once it gets to them it's VERY difficult to stop them, they are effectively independent, set their own charges and will only stop when given a very specific command, they don't care if what they're doing is illegal. If they pass it to their bailiffs they will be trying to lift at least twice the claimed debt amount off you... Phone LLoyds NOW!
  18. I'm with DC on this. 1. The problems with banks I believe actually started in the US with their sub-prime mortgage collapse. 2. The UK banking industry is a world leader and honestly, it's the most successful industry we have at the moment. 3. Europe is going to become an ever smaller buyer of premium [uK] products as their economies collapse, I've no doubt that pretty soon we'll be getting cheap holidays abroad again. 4. The UK manufacturing industry creates a premium product, the volume sales for that are going to be to China, India etc as their economies boom [ironically on the back of the West demanding more cheap goods] and NOT European countries 5. The Euro was a very cynical and shameful attempt to create a super-state to rival the US and it's foundations are not stable enough to allow it to survive. It was put together in a hurry without giving real thought to the implications of how it was arranged. Oh, and yes, the country's debt problems are OUR fault and the previous chancellor's, not really the banks. Interest rates were kept low to stimulate borrow and spend to create the impression of a successful economy, but like Europe, it was not built on sound foundations, it was forced to grow too quickly...
  19. All you guys out there with chippers standing idle over the weekend, would you hire yourselves out for a day's chipping? It's not often I need one but on the odd occasion that I do, would anyone be able to rock up with a chipper & chip box or hire it out to me? I could do with an idea of cost so I can factor it in if it ever comes up. Alternatively, can anyone suggest any hire locations between Hereford, Worcester & Shrewsbury? I have previously hired from our local plant hire firm but honestly, it wasn't quite the right tool for the job! Anyway, thanks in advance guys! Simon
  20. I agree, had a quote today for 450 quid for PL & EL.... 5m & 10m I think. What amazes me about this clip is that they actually have the balls to make out they know what they're doing! Incredible!
  21. Start here Arran... NPTC | Assignment Schedules
  22. Done!
  23. I use a length of 8mm cord to make up a VT on my lanyard, buntline each end, I guess I could use the same here... just a pulley then... Right there with you...
  24. I'm a hoarder, if I do acquire one it'll be going nowhere.....! Going to give the helical a whirl first. But I already have a couple of Ultra-O's so it's just eye to eye cord & a pulley and I'm there.... It will happen sooner or later!
