  1. Ok great that's good news it's straight forward. Last year we easily used all of tier 1 so this option will not give us good Roi from the rhi but would be very low on labour time which is attractive. We have a 25 m3 wood chip store and 3000 litre accumulator tank. So once loaded we could virtually leave it to get on with it I guess. Will definitely research both option though, what size accumulator tank would the batch fed boiler need and do you have a rough estimate on price for the complete set up?
  2. Yes this is something I had considered as a possible option and for that sort of money it does make a lot of sense. Our chip boiler is heating 2 houses, offices and shop so running at capacity for half the year but during summer time it would easily run a kiln. I will have to find out implications on rhi if I try to add a kiln onto what we are already doing.
  3. Thanks for that. I will take a look at the farm 2000. Do you know of people using them for this purpose? Straw is a good option for us as we have large quantities on the farm and get you point about loading time. Do you know if rhi will accept us burning straw and wood together? We have fair amount of scraps coming from the processors
  4. Sorry got a wood chip boiler not kiln
  5. Interested to hear more from people who have the glen farrow kiln. Considering getting one but concerned heat produced will be well down on what is claimed and labour time needed to load it. Have a wood chip kiln running all the farms heating and that is fantastic but this sort of setup will be too expensive for a kiln. Any advice from people who have them would be appreciated.
  6. We have also been really busy. Well up on last year so well pleased considering the warm weather.
  7. Yes it has been very busy. have been averaging 15 m3 delivered each day. have a few vans on the road so has been fairly managable. just hoping cold weather continues into January now.
  8. We have also just had our best month ever. Done 334 cubic metres in December, up on last year. seems lots of people near us are still putting in wood burners as we have picked up a fair few new customers just starting to burn wood.
  9. very impressed with the idea. can you confirm how many M3 of space in each stillage?
  10. Yes thanks Duffryn, being able to use straw would make a big difference for us as we are farmers. look forward to hearing how you get on with this
  11. ok thanks. just speaking for our company, we will process 1000 ton of hardwood next year and really the only waste wood is saw dust. so for me looking at your kiln i have to see the 4 tons to fuel 1 complete cycle as a direct cost to the business. so in the worst case scenario 1 ton of fully seasoned or 20% moisture wood, costs a fair bit more than £40 as the website claims. it would equate to roughly 1.35 ton of fresh cut wood which with price of haulage included would easily be costing £80 per ton going into the kiln as fuel. this is not even talking about labour preparing and drying it to 20 % can other people reading this see the point i am making or am i missing something here?
  12. so to clarify this for me. when you say it takes 4 tons of logs roughly in a cycle is that weighed when all moisture is in, then dried and used or is it 4 tons of wood at 20% moisture? not trying to pick holes but i am sure you will appreciate there is a big difference here and with the price of wood rapidly rising i dont think it is nearly as cheap as you are claiming.
  13. ok well i think it is slightly misleading on your website to say a ton of wood is assumed to cost £40 when that is the price for green wood before Haulage. i think you are looking at it costing more like £90 a ton for wood at 20% moisture, this might make a bit of a difference for some peoples costings.
  14. on your website it says you need roughly 4 ton of fuel to do a complete cycle. is this 4 ton of green wood or wood that is at 20% moisture?
