  1. Yes we do already have a kiln on the farm, 40 foot shipping container and it does take a bit of running to get logs properly dry. We may look at the tip and hook trailers that have a drying floor and push hot air up from beneath. The engine has 160 kW of heat available in theory. So 2 trailers should be achievable.
  2. Have you got any further with this project? I am looking to do something similar with a friend who has an a d plant. I think this is fairly simple to do and great thing is there is a constant flow of heat virtually 24/7. I think there is enough heat to run two 40 foot containers. Is there anyone else on here who has managed to do this? Be good to chat if there is.
  3. Sent it a while ago so not sure why not got to you. I've received your pm so I'll ring tomorrow to discuss. Sure can reach an agreement which works for us both. We are between towcester and Daventry so pretty close to you. Need wood like this for our biomass boilers
  4. Hi Joe I could easily clear it all up for you. I could get a walking floor lorry or bulker over easy enough if access is ok for an artic? I have sent a pm with my details Thanks
  5. Hi Lewis. I run a fruit farm in the midlands we have some apple and cherry wood. Probably worth having a chat, feel free to ring me on 07989606697. Cheers
  6. Thanks that's helpful. Yes very pleased with the machine we are putting 15-25 tonne through everyday and it rarely misses a beat. How are you finding the 480? Would be the next obvious step up for us but I was a bit concerned it would be too slow on smaller timber because of longer saw stroke. Interested to hear how you are finding it.
  7. Thanks Ben. Yes agreed it is quite variable. Our cord is generally quite clean. So what can you get out of 1 chain and bar if cutting nice wood? The machine suppliers say to expect about 100 ton. I find after about 80 or so the bar is getting pretty tired and starts getting stuck alot in the wood. We have been taking their advice to tighten the chain a bit more than a chainsaw. Wonder if this is what is doing the damage. Do you tighten your chain to the same tension as you would a chainsaw or more?
  8. I see there are a few folk on here who run tajfun 400 processors. How many tonnes or m3 do you manage to get out of 1 chain and bar? We cut a lot of wood but do get through them quick. I was aware when buying the machine that it was fast and that meant hard pressing on the bar but just wondering if few tips on getting more out of them? Cheers
  9. Hello there, we have lots of cordwood about 20 miles from you. If you sort out a lorry to do the haulage your welcome to buy some. Feel free to get me on 07989606697 to discuss further.
  10. Hi Sam, yes plenty available. Feel free to ring me on 07989606697 to discuss. Thanks
  11. Hi jay. I will PM you the farm address and dimensions etc. Sold one lorry load if anyone else needs one let me know before Tuesday when last few loads are coming in to ours.
  12. Hi mate. I have them on our farm now not far from Daventry so just under an hour from you. If interested your welcome to buy a few. Let me know.
  13. They are coming out of Norfolk and coming to the midlands. However I can give you a price where you are further north. We will want £14 per box if you collect from fakenham or I can arrange and pay for haulage so will be a delivered price of £20 each 51 on the lorry. I will send some photos.
  14. Yeah it's a bit unfortunate that these are not standard size spud boxes so they don't pack down in 3's. Have to just stack them 3 high on a flat bed.
  15. I am buying 600 odd potato boxes to dry logs in, they are in great condition and have been kept indoors. They can stack 6 high and hold 1.7 m3. Reason for posting this is because though I can take all, ideally I would only really need 500 odd. We can fit 51 on a lorry and have a company ready to bring them into the Midlands. If anyone would like a load or 2 bit dependent on where but I could probably deliver for around about the £20 per box mark. Let me know if of interest to anyone. Cheers
  16. Yes over a weigh bridge and from a heat meter. I have checked moisture before and had one load that wasnt great but generally my supplier does a good job drying the chip to about 30% give or take a bit
  17. Very good of you. I will PM you my details, I am off soon to Norway for a week so will probably be mid January time before in touch.
  18. Yes i will be in touch on this with you. I would be very happy to pay you for your time and input I think the saving on price and hassle would be big and also a donation to Arbtalk Childrens trust. Your advice so far has been very much appreciated.
  19. Yeah its a good price and fairly good quality to be fair. If it got much more expensive then I would probably chip my own wood but this is best as I do not want to tie up one of our barns to store chip, better to use to dry logs
  20. Cool I will find out for you when back in the office Monday. Demand for heat virtually dies in summer so hopefully we could be in business here. We have lots of space to dry logs naturally so I would probably dry them naturally to 25 % or so then finish in the kiln. 2 Day drying time ok you think or is that optimistic? 16 m3 in a kiln for few days adds a good £20 premium per m3 to the end product so numbers work and we have big demand for kiln dried currently
  21. I buy in woodchip from a friend currently paying £85 per tonne for chip at 30% get walking floor lorry with 18 tonnes approx at time. We average 58000 KW from 18 ton so 58 divided by 18 gives us 3222 KWH per ton so numbers virtually same as mine.
  22. It is Herz Firematic 199 KW. From rural energy, off top of my head not sure of size of water jacket, I'm not massively technical. We got it in on last day of top rate tariff. So have ran it for a year and it has hardly missed a beat so far.
  23. Yeah agree with that, I had a good chat with one of the guys on here earlier who has GF setup. He was very honest about it and it works for him but do not think numbers quite stack up for me on it now the tariff has dropped. Do you think our 3000 litre accumulator will be big enough for the 20 foot Kiln?
  24. That's all really helpful, thanks very much for the advice. Seems including g f option have 3 choices, so got some thinking to do now.
  25. Can't complain about that. Roughly how long is it taking to dry a load of wood from fresh cut to under 20% with your set up? Also to hit 20k rhi have you had to run it hard for most of the year?
