  1. exactly

    what is enough

Having seen aerial photos of this I can see it popping up pretty random and unexpected

Sounds like the secret is immediate destruction

I guess 100m is probably enough but requires 100% compliance

This disease is a bad one and one that makes you wonder on the sense of monoculture of trees

Seems a good point to me :thumbup1:

  2. indeed, those apaches are serious piece of kit. the best sound a soldier on the ground can hear when in contact!!

although the progress is slow, its reasuring to see at least some of the locals will help out, and lead them away from IEDs.

The lads keep each other going, aswell as the dark humour. joking about the dire situations they are in is the best way to get through it.

(i should say im ex royal marine and did 2 tours in 06/07)

its very sobering to hear of them being killed, and also so many injured you dont hear about. i was just saying to my mrs how i recognised the lad talking at the end when the narrator said he had been hit by an IED 2 weeks later and now has body and brain damage. had a whiskey after that.

It got me really thinking about things that last night . None more so than that Apache helicopter . I have simply seen no other machine capable of such destruction on an epic scale. Should the guy that designed this piece of kit be honoured ? Dishonoured ? As you say as soon as the boys seen it they new it was all over , I'm sure the taliban new this aswell. It descended from the sky like a black cross of death , the silence afterwards was chilling to an outsider but I'm sure music to the ears of our boys.

The boy you knew was/is a real character and my heart sank when it was clear this wasnt going to be a happy ending but was overjoyed when at least he was not killed , brave brave boys..

  3. Spot on Shane, the company i worked for ( huge well known national company ) stopped paying into our pension for i think it was 7 years or something of that ilk and didnt tell anyone , nobody had a clue but them until the whistle was blown on them. Union funded pension lawyers in to sort out the mess , how on earth could a lone employee fund any investigation or misdimeanor .. simple they couldnt.

  4. Bloody Hell !!

An hours violent contact with the Taliban ... Their rocket launchers fall short...

Big mistake, Apache helicopter comes in .... All becomes silent.

Despite this the young men being lost is depressing.. how on earth these guys keep their spirit is beyond me.. Thats why they are there and I'm here i suppose.

  5. A good company pension scheme was them matching your contributions so a company doubling this seems very generous to me almost uncannily. It can get very messy a company pension scheme because some companies can be very dishonest and not tell you of any changes they make to the point of blatant midnight robbery . It can get very complicated to work out what you are actually due and it takes the services of a special pensions lawyer to make sure you get what you are due. I would be very sceptical now.:001_smile:

  6. hi thanks born2trot yer i think your talking about the split level cut, im sure there is some more to learn but that what the course is for. Looking forward to it. thanks again callum

I'm not talking about the split level cut. The saw stays in the tree at all times with the medium cut. Split level cut your saw comes out and a wedge goes in. You then go back in and undercut your first cut , this is for slightly leaning back trees not medium trees. :001_smile:

  7. Have to remember it is many years since alot of the people on here did these courses and its sometimes difficult to recall exactly whats involved..But i THINK this is the one where you plunge the saw in from the offside and go toward your gub creating the first half of your hinge. You then bring the saw backtoward the rear of the tree until there is sufficient wood left to start arcing the saw round toward the near side, thus creating the second half of the hinge. Hope this sort of reads ok. :001_smile:

  8. My first thought on this is that the title is over exaggerated. Did the selection committee travel the length and breadth of europe and short list this group ?

The stories are no more than quite interesting but nothing really inspiring .

This does not detract from the fact that they are bonny trees dont get me wrong . :001_smile:
