  1. Like the title says, looking for a load of hardwood cord, preferably seasoned, Delivered to SA62 3LT Send me a PM or call 07902 917281 Thanks in advance!
  2. In the meantime, if anyone wants some garden furniture...(!)
  3. Thanks everyone, some really kind words there. I don't doubt that you'll get more updates on my exploits as they happen!
  4. Sorry to bump this thread again, thought I'd give you all a bit of an update a year(ish) on... I left uni, and straight away landed myself a job building a large poultry unit on a self employed basis. I am re-training as a carpenter/Joiner and loving every minute of it. Selling more logs and kindling etc than ever. And now I'm setting up a business producing flat-pack garden furniture. It's not what I imagined myself doing but I am at least still working with wood! Best decision I ever made to leave university.
  5. Where abouts are you? I can supply and all at less than 20% mc
  6. The jappa 100 is more than I want really. Can't find a dealer for the rebaud though... I agree about Riko their customer service is good. Wish it was a little cheaper that's all.
  7. Hi all, I'm perhaps only a few days away from buying a pto Riko saw, mainly because of the TCT blade, reasonable price and the gauge for consistent length logs. Could I get some opinions and experiences, good, bad or indifferent? Thanks in advance.
  8. I stack for free. Everyone around here charges the same for a similar product so I win the repeat customers. Some are quick, next to the drive, others around the back but it averages out. My margins aren't so tight that 10/15 mins per cube breaks the bank.
  9. Around here you can hire a big tractor for £60 a day, £6 an hour. Hydraulic log splitter for £50, £5 an hour. A 70hp tractor on light duty should use a gallon an hour of diesel (5 litres at 70p) £3.50 an hour. All that add up to 14.50 an hour plus your time and insurances. £25 an hour should cover it, that's what most agri-contractors are around here. Having said all that, it's best to charge whatever you can get away with!
  10. Don't try and sell something as a tonne if it doesn't weigh a tonne. A tonne bag is only a tonne bag if it's contents weigh a tonne.
  11. It's coming tomorrow, that's me busy until the weekend!
  12. Thanks guys, the stihl one is in eBay as well, I figured I couldn't go too far wrong with that brand. I might just order one this afternoon...
  13. Simple question, until now I have always been quite thorough in the way I dry wood, months under cover etc. This year I need to up the throughput a bit. Want a moisture meter to see how soon I can send wood out - what should I buy? Do the £15 ones on the 'bay actually work?
  14. When its dry I get £70 a cubic meter for it the same as all other hardwood I sell. although that is wet you've still put the same work into it. I think 70 quid is a very fair price for that, providing whoever you sell it to has provision to dry it sufficiently.
  15. How much do you want for it timberbear? do you know anyone who would shift it to pembs?
  16. I like the idea of a planter, cut it down both sides to make two big troughs and stick two ends on, job done. Probably worth a bit too.
  17. We're burning softwood and poplar for the same reason, no trouble keeping the house toasty though, hot water and cooking on a Rayburn as well. I do think you have to treat softwood differently to hardwood though. Keep the stove full to the brim I say!
  18. No doubt you're right there but ash and beech are both quite a bit denser than pop, I wonder what the difference in calorific value is weight for weight at the same moisture content?....
  19. I don't understand everyone's problem with poplar. It is VERY wet when it's green, but give it a year outside then split it small and Put it in the shed with plenty of air round it and four months later it burns lovely. All we're burning ATM is pop, makes a nice warm fire. IMO
  20. Look up "Yorkshire boarding", Usually 6"x1" spaced at one inch. any less spacing and it wont let enough air in. Any more than an inch and it lets in a disproportionate amount of rain.
  21. I was between Llandeilo and Cross Hands, on Pant Y Bara Farm, in a village called Milo. went to Ysgol Tre-Gib for a year or so. Moved to Haverfordwest then but I'm back and forth to Carms quite a lot still. I'm going to the refinary in pembroke its about 15 miles from us. where abouts are you based Rich D?
  22. I don't know how or where I would finish it part time, but that would suit me down to the ground. My biggest gripe is that I've been unwell for the last nine months, the only time I recover is whilst I'm at home during the holidays, the thought of going back on sunday is making me ill again. on the note of exercise..... I play Water polo for Wales, I get plenty of exercise!
  23. I'm doing a BEng with a year in industry. the year is to be done at an oil refinary in an office with literally no windows! I'm from Carms myself, moved to pembs a few years ago. It is affecting my health, I've been ill for almost nine months now, the only time Im well is whilst Im at home on holidays, like I am at the moment. the thought of going back on sunday is making me ill again.
  24. Errr..... my fault I started this thread on the training forum as well, wanted a broad range of views. I sort of had a year out, I failed an exam in my first year so last year I worked on a farm whilst I re-sat that exam, I enjoyed last year, which makes this year even harder! could you post a link to that web site please?
