  9. my brain is already fried
  10. It would seem that the RFS have changed the practical test criterea they require for people to obtain their RFS cert. Here is their criterea http://www.rfs.org.uk/files/Tests_for_RFS_Cert_Arb.pdf Obviously this is in addition to the theory level 2 in arboriculture.
  11. Being new to this arboriculture learning Im not really sure how the qualifications work, can anyone enlighten me.

  19. I bow down to your superior knowledge, i was always led to believe (by an arborist) that my comment was correct, glad I enrolled at myerscough now.
  20. Hi, im a shadow ranger for the forestry commission and work with a guy every now and then whos in a similar situation to you, hes coming up to retiring form the army having done 26 years and is currently studying at Askham Bryan in York think hes doing the Countryside management course (dont know which qual though) and then comes out with the Rangers as and when he can. Im pretty sure he wants to become a wildlife ranger. Unfortunately your felling and climbing quals will be useless in any forestry commission position as they sub anything like that out, most you will ever get your hands on is a bow saw and thats after various H&S and First Aid courses.
  21. Agreed, the tree will be generating loads of energy to get into leaf so best wait till its done.
  22. Found this in the garage behind a few boxs, forgot id got it to be honest
  23. Hi, there was a proposal by the government to sell off large blocks of woodland but this was met with quite fierce opposition and the government backed off. My view of it is they were just dipping their toe in the water to see what kind of reaction they got, i think they will refocus on other ways in which to sell off large blocks of forests to boost the governments coffers. It would indeed be an ideal world if one could just buy a woodland and live in it and use said woodland to live off, sadly it is only a dream but for the select few, Ben Laws will be only too happy to tell you how he battled for 12 years to get planning permission to build a 'temporary' dwelling in his own woodland. With the recent planning laws being given the green light it may indeed be slightly easier to be able to buy woodland and one day convince the local authority planners that you need to be on site 24/7 to enable a dwelling to be built to protect your income, but if was that easy im sure half of the users of this site would be doing just that. This was a good article i read which got me thinking Secret forest sell-off 'shopping lists' drawn up by conservation groups | Environment | The Guardian Please note that this is only my view and views from other users and members are available
  24. Yeah totally agree, I'll ask about and see if there is anyone else interested. What price do you charge for the course?
