  2. Is this for your own use or for sale?
  3. Hi folks, I'm after some cordwood in Sheffield, idealy ash, sycamore or beech. Anyone got some for sale and if so how much for how much? Cheers Andy Edited to add: - I'm in sheffield, but the wood doesn't need to be, but oop north probably going be necessary to keep transport costs down
  4. Hi, we are in Sheffield 6, easy access for tippers etc. If any arbs are looking to get rid of arisings in the Sheffield area drop me a PM with your contact details and I'll be in touch. Cheers Andy
  5. My kindling probably costs more than crack per kilo, but it's 3+ year dried hawthorn snippings and gets the party started with a few grams worth.
  6. If I don't want to take a call, for example when keeping the good lady happy so she won't need rich rules services, i just set the phone to silent. Simple.
  7. Amen to that. Though I don't hold out much hope on the dry weather! Happy Christmas all and enjoy a couple of hard earned days out of the endless drizzle with your tipple of choice!
  8. Hi all, Dumb move on my part when running the MS362, chain was nice and sharp but bar started overheating, smoking at the tip. Stupidly carried on for far too long and then finally realised the bar oil wasn't getting through having taken the bar cover off. Bar is borked so got a new one but is there likely to be damage to anything else from running very hot? The sprocket seems OK, is there anything else I need to check before using again? Cheers Andy
  9. Surely it is worth asking over the phone? Is is hardwood? Is it seasoned? Whats the average split M/c? I'll check the average split M/c Go through that and most suppliers will be happy to deal, the delightful members of the travelling community selling fresh conni as seasoned hardwood won't.
  10. My thoughts exactly. Not to mention the bit at the end when he hits the centre of a big round repeatedly in the same place. Not sure what that's about unless his customers have stoves the size of the Lusitania I've been splitting ash all day so easy to feel smug about how easy the maul splitting lark is till you get some really knotty swines in the last batch which was seriously kntty beech. My personal approach is up the weight of the maul the more knotty they get, ash and sycamore goes a treat with a kiddys 6lb maul, beech up it to 8 lb and for the load of green holly in 28" i copped for last year the 12 lb home made jobby.
  11. Hi onfoot, good guess, it turnbs out was Jonathon that was doing the logging. His numbers 01484 662260 if walkerboys wants to get a quote off his company.
  12. I was chatting to a couple of lads today who are logging the softwood up the road from me at Dam Flask in Sheffield. Didn't catch their company name but they're working us subcontractors to Euro Forrest so if you give them a ring they should be able to give you their details By the look of the progress they only have a few days left so the kits only a few miles from Barnsley so transport costs wouldn't be bad for a small job. They were using a Komatsu 931 harvester, didn't catch which forwarder model it was but a Komatsu as well.
  13. That'll be the guy whose spamming the local discussion forum here in Sheffield posing as a "happy customer" having bought 3 bags of "seasoned and split hardwood" for £80. Sadly his maths skills are as good as his wood, he keeps posting that he bought 3 square metres of wood.
  14. 19% max, if a batch is over that it get laid down for another few months. I average 16%. But i'm a specialist supplier and only turn over 10 or so tonnes a year as a sideline.
  15. Yup, got one at 6pm today. Hawking eastern european logs. Told em to do one.
  16. WoodED . thanks for very good advice, the MS362 has been brilliant for every job that requires a bit of grunt and i'm damn glad i spent that bit more for a decent saw. Cheers fella, i owe you a beer.
  17. Thanks guys, she did hae a few bags of "wood" which looked like construction waste which could well have nails etc in. That will be the fella. Really appreciate the swift response all Andy.
  18. Hi all, A landscaping customer of mine asked me to sharpen her daughters little electric saw as she was concerned her dau never sharpened it( its a dinky Bosch AKE 35-19S) so went to do so and found 4 of the cutters entirely sheared off, all roughly at the same point (at the chain link). in a circle the shared off points would be 12 o'clock, 1 oclock, 5 oclock and 10 o clock so seemed no real pattern. Any idea what caused this - she has clearly been running the saw blunt or near as damn it - would this be enough to take entire cutters off? I have obviously removed the chain but a bit apprehensive about fitting another if there might be an issue with the saw that has caused this..checked the bar and it's grove and pull are fine so i don't think that is the issue. Any help appreciated. Cheers Andy
  19. Thanks for all the ideas guys. Had a good hunt online and finally plumped for WoodED's suggestion of the MS362 - little bit more than i wanted to pay but hey, if it lasts then the difference from the cheaper stuff I was looking at is probably only a couple of beers a year.
  20. Hi woodED, Thanks for the ideas, the MS362 is a bit pricier than I was planning - stihl have it at £852 on their website so i guess i could get it for £650-£680ish but i was planning on more around the £500 mark. The husky looks tempting though and could probably get it for around £550 - and the 4.4hp is tempting over the 3.7 on the 460. Decisions decisions....
  21. Hi all, I'm overdue getting a new saw and want something wwith enough guts to run on an 18" bar. I mainly use my saws for firewood processing and bits of felling around the farm, I've made do with 15" bars up to now but have got a bunch of wood which the old Husky 345 with a 15" bar is struggling with even with the chain razor sharp so time to take the plunge and spend some cash. The above saws look to be about right performance wise for what i'm after, does anyone have any experience of using both who could suggest whether the stihl or the husky will deliver the best performance. (I'm a pretty light user, probably don't average more than an hour a day of trigger time) cheers Andy
