  1. I don't associate glossy leaves with crataegus? No hint of lobeing and maybe serrations are too small?
  2. Looks like an old grafted tree. I know the pictures are poor but any takers? Many thanks
  3. When I got my iveco 35c11 it had knackered rear springs, and the front suspension was very unlevel, with one side sitting a good 3 inches lower than other. (Thanks goes out to the Hampstead heath tree gang for using it as a chip mule!) Rear springs were replaced with heavy duty ones from 'Midland road springs', a company I can wholly recommend. Including postage and vat I think it came to only 80 odd quid. An easy job to swap them out. solving the front lean was a case of replacing the rubber pre-tensioners, of which there are 4. They sit above and below the spring inside the axle housing. Mine had perished and collapsed so although the torsion bar (front spring) was sound the truck was low and wonky. I got a new front spring again from Midland road springs for 70 quid, and the rubber bits from iveco direct were 80 quid! Fitting the front bits was a more involved job as the axle had to be dismantled, so I winked out of doing it and got a garage to fit it for me . Well pleased now though as the truck sits really high and takes a ridiculous amount of weight without showing it!
  4. It wasn't, but there is a picture of a pickup on their website
  5. http://www.midlandroadsprings.co.uk/ are good, fast delivery and has been spot on with uprated springs on my truck.
  6. Anyone know who's work this is? From a chestnut. The picture doesn't do it justice!
  7. Unless you spray underneath trees on a really hot sunny day, in which case I think it can evaporate and get up into the canopy?
  8. Did you get hold him? I'm now in the market for these myself; if he's dropped off the map Il look into making some I think.
  9. As to the future of the tree I will be giving it an aerial inspection, dead wooding and searching for anything else that might be stressing the tree. Then putting together a management plan taking into account the nearby road and outbuildings below. From what I've read about this fungus it's not particulary agressive and needs to team up with other factors to overcome the host. it's a tiny small bracket on a large oak which looks in rude health (from the floor), be interesting to see what I find upstairs and downstairs also when I poke about the base/roots. cheers for ident confirmation!
  10. Found at base of large oak in good health. I didn't have my camera with me so brought this small out crop home. The bracket whole was about a foot wide. Been looking at inonotus dryadeus and thinking that the colour difference can be accounted for by the time of year? Any input welcome. Sorry for poor pictures, I might have to return to take proper pictures for 100% ident but thought I'd run it past you lot in the mean time! Many thanks, Michael
  11. It's a shame the bloke owns the patient for this design doesn't make larger amounts/be easier to contact; it's a great bit of kit and lasts for ages. You can re-cut the teeth to get a few more years out of them.
  12. Hi there. Im the happy owner of a 1999 Entec 35DH. The draw bar/hitch has a fair bit of free play in it, both up and down and side to side. What can I expect to happen if I continue to put off replacing it? Is it possible for it to wear enough to come apart? My next question is about sourcing a replacement. I'm guilty of not having taken the time to ring up Timberwolf and ask (Always seems to be outside working hours when I get onto jobs like that ). Ive looked at the set up on a 150 and it dosnt look like it will fit my older model Timberwolf Woodchipper Parts and Timberwolf Spares Alko Hitch Unit Complete Could you point me towards somewhere to buy one? Many thanks!
  13. They are good aren't they. The bloke could make a fortune if he upped advertising!
  14. Is it a ranger rake? http://www.landscapermagazine.com/uncategorized/raking-it-in/ Guy who makes them used to do the shows. No internet presence, the phone number in the linked article is all I've seen. Think he makes them in his garden shed when he gets a certain amount of orders!
  15. Back on topic... It's stress dreaming im sure but my dreams are usually like this; im working up a tree and trying to run the site at the same time, ie shaping another tree, watching out for joe blogs skipping through the barrier tape and explaining to a groundey how to use the capsten etc. The fiancee tells me im talking in my sleep about clearing lines and moving vans Anyone else teaching their partner arb work in their sleep?
  16. if it sucked water in it wont hurt to take the plug and carb off and pull it over fast while holding it upside down. proper blows the water out. also have a care using the air line on the carb when it has its fuel pipes off; the diaphrams can rupture. will probably smoke for a while on start up
  17. Rover, Ive worn contact lenses as a tree surgeon for the last 6 years with no problems. my advice would be to get the daily disposable ones, so its not the end of the world when you have to ditch one up a tree. Having said that in all the time ive been climbing ive only lost 5 or so lenses. I make a point to wear sunglasses or saftey glasses on the dustyist of jobs, like ringing down a trunk in gusty wind. And I certainly dont keep my hands clean! in the event you do get something behind a lense that wont blink away you can suck a finger clean enough to swap it out. Good luck with it anyway! I know the daily disposable are more expensive but totally worth it imho.
  18. Please can it be 'SpringhallTreeCare' Cheers Steve!

  19. Hi Steve. Quick question; can I change my screen name? Want it to be my company name rather than personal name. Happy to open new account with different email if need be, but wanted to check first! cheers.

  20. Hello all. This oak came over one quiet night a few weeks ago. The lowest 3 foot was sponge, which has been removed so it's solid wood right across. Total length is 290 inch. Base width is 55 inch. Top width is 29 inch. 160 inchs up the trunk was the first larger limb, at this point the width of the trunk is 44 inch. A hiab lorry has easy access except when the ground is very very wet. My postcode starts CO10, im 25 mins south of Bury St edmunds and 15 mins from Sudbury. Any interest/questions please PM me. Cheers!
  21. Hi David. I came across one of your posts refering to the green iveco 35c11d you ran in London. I reckon this is the truck ive just brought, based on the stickers etc. I was wondering if you had any stories about it? In your picture it looks like it dosent have a towbar, as it still dosent. Was it always like that, and how does a chip wagon not have a towball?

Im well pleased with the truck, it's had various bits fixed and I hope is mechanicly sound, but can i ask what problems it had when you sold it?

    cheers for any info.
