  1. Hi all, looking for some good advice from lads who have worked through a Swedish winter. What kit is essential to wear over there to stand up to the cold and be able to climb in? Do you need a good pair of alpine boots rather than chainsaw protection? What climbing systems work best in such cold conditions? Any advice would be grateful cheers
  2. I climb on a pinto/sling and cambium saver at the moment with a hitch climber, when retrieving a rope guide or pulley saver do you just pull it out of the tree or lower it? The reason i have been put off buying one is 1. pulling it out the tree is surely gonna nack it after a while 2. lowering seems a fanny on if your jumping from tree to tree on utilities.
  3. As you can tell from earlier posts today I'm feeling the need for new kit flash and flush, I'm sick or buying pap trousers had them all bar these two so its one or the other whos got them what they like, more than anything I'm just after lighter more breathable trousers. cheers

  10. I will post pictures tomorrow lads, it could be possible that in the cold something has contracted and these have popped, it was minus 7 that morning or colder?
  11. Both my ultra O's on my hitch climber failed to close last week, I hadn't noticed until I moved onto climb my second tree of the morning when neither biner would close, some sort of plastic insert has popped out the bottom of the gate keeping it permanently open? There only a few months old. What ya think lads?
  12. I'm after a set of bashlin spikes, i saw at APF you can get them with velcro instead of straps and with the stein strap/pads, does the velcro not wear out easy? The stein pads look comfortable but everything i have had stein doesn't see the day out

  17. I know theres already a load of hitch climber posts but here we go. Just got a DMM pulley and some ocean polyester 8mm teufelberger eye to eye (95cm), climbing on yale XTC 13mm. Anyone using this same set up, vt, distel or schwabich? Is it essential that you use oval karabiners? Cheers lads
  18. Does anybody have any experience of going to work in OZ through this agency?
  19. Thanks for all the great feedback and advice everyone on travelling around new zealand. Still after a bit work advice, our month there is nothing more than a holiday really but if we love it enough then a year out there working is on the cards further down the line. Is it worth me taking my kit just to do a days work for someone so that i can get my foot in the door for us to go back and get visa sponsorship etc? Or can you apply for work Visas without having a sponsor? If anyone knows the best way to sort work out over there it would be great help. Thanks Tom

  22. Cheers lads! Thanks for everyone getting back with some great advice. I'm afraid we can only go for a month this time round, dogs and work. But if it turns out to be all we've imagined it is like then we'll be planning on moving over for good! We were gonna give ourselves a week in the north island at most so we can have three weeks in the south.
  23. Now then lads, looking to buy new trousers and don't really want to get another pair of stihl hi flex. I manage to completely ruin a pair in under 6 months, sick to bits of repairing rips and my last pair have just melted away. Love them to work in, so comfortable and great for climbing but there just not up to the graft, what else is on offer that is comfortable and great for climbing? Cheers Tom
  24. Hello lads! I'm off to NZ for a month with my girlfriend in december, its been a long time coming and we can't wait to explore the place. We don't have any plans of yet just gonna wing it, were picking a rental car up in Auckland and driving down the country, hoping to spend most of our time in Queenstown (christmas and new year) and surrounding areas. Any help and advice on where to go and 'must see' and do stuff would be greatly appreciated, wheres best for big trees? The kinda things i'm on about, good camping spots, natural swimming spots, fishing, surfing, snowboarding, mountain biking, BMX, good wine, good food, seafood, rock climbing, live music, rowdy bars, beaches, all the good stuff! Would love to meet lads doing tree work out there, see whats what, keen as mustard to do some graft for the banter. Cheers Tom
  25. hello there gustharts me ole pals, roughly how much is the whole spiderjack climbing system, rope the lot? cheers
