    I think we are here for their amusement. I spend all my time cutting them down. They have a little giggle for a few months after I have moved on and then start growing back again the following spring. Maddening!

    Any foresters out there running on Aspen? I can't see how it can possibly add up. Be very interested to see some info on the negative health/environmental impacts of pump fuel. Might still be worth the switch if I can find somewhere to make the savings.

    Also, although I see where Big J is coming from (people taking responsibility for their own seasoning/attaining 30%MC:biggrin:), I doubt there are that many customers who are willing to buy in the sort of bulk he is talking about.

    Have you got a decent firm mattress? I used to have a lot of problems with my back. Changed my mattress, problem solved overnight (literally). Obviously this won't be the answer for everyone but I'm surprised that sleeping on your back causes so much grief.

    Quite so! Although it does beg the question, why bother go into hospital to have 'the snip' when you can very effectively cream your coconuts on the steps outside?

    I saw the 435 in action at a Fuelwood open day. The quality of the logs was the best I have ever seen from a processor. Very expensive machine though. What I would like to see is the same splitting arrangement on a small stand alone horizontal splitter such as my beloved '8 ton Iris' from Kilworth. I would be first in line to purchase one of those.

    Are you ticketed and insured Dan? The cheapest thing to do would be for you to select and cut your own material and pay a 'contribution' to the woodland owner. Reindeer for Christmas? Definitely my kind of thing:thumbup: I'll pm you my numerals.

    If you live anywhere near Suffolk you can pop in on Saturday and see the 50hp BCS and AGT working alongside each other for a direct comparison. There's not an awful lot of difference between them. The BCS (or in my case Pasquali) is just a bit posher. Reversible driving position is a huge bonus especially if the tractor is carrying out a variety of tasks. Both machines are well built and spare parts are readily available.

    Thank you one and all. Really appreciate the help:thumbup: Microplant is probably my best bet. They are very close and have a 2.5 tonner with timber grab.

    Does anyone know where I could hire a small excavator from that comes with a grab or a thumb. I'd like to use it for stacking up my codwood:biggrin: at the end of this winters felling, ready for summer extraction. Loads of places doing diggers, but can't find one that can grip things. Looking for a smallish machine to keep haulage down. Would prefer to operate it myself but am open to paying an operator. I'm based in South Suffolk. Many thanks, TVI.

    Thanks Ti, Ventured into a hollow veteran Oak back in May. Blowed if I could find my way back out:blushing: Fortunately a passing tinker heard by stomach rumbling yesterday and stuck his head in, revealing my escape route. Had the tree not been home to a Long Eared Owl coughing up a nightly pellet I fear I would have starved to death. From this day forth, to ensure my freedom, I shall dilligently remain on the outside of trees!

    heathen!? It's such an outdated term. I prefer to think of myself as Almightily challenged. Really looking forward to the Norway pics:thumbup: I heard the other day that you can buy 10 acres with a cabin in the wilds of Sweden for £20,000! Does anyone know if this is realistic, or did the chap think I was Bjorn yesterday?
