  1. Cheers Robert - Ror likes his comfort!!
  2. Its the 2.3 engine
  3. :bawling:You are not wrong there
  4. Starting to get there now ....... Bed shortened, strengthened and plates over the wafer thin bits! Tail gate shaping up with new gate and some refurbed barn doors. Ali sheet on the head board to catch the chip...............
  5. The tail gate was fabricated from one of the old drop sides. Rory - "Si make sure you take the tail gate off when you tip, otherwise it gets jammed bend the towbar and it will bend!" Si- "Ok Ror"
  6. Once Rory had "chopped" the bed - he strengthened the end of the bed with box section, before re-attaching the head board. Where he could he used the existing structure to rebuild the body, saving on cost
  7. Ror sets to work with the grinder.........
  8. Tried the tool box for size - hhhmmm something not quite right here......
  9. Rory got straight to work stripping the cage and sides from the bed....... some of the bed was a "little thin" - all the more room for chip!
  10. The day after I bought the truck tool box was loaded on (Cheers Pete) and off she went to Rory to work his magic!
  11. Managed to source a tool box, thanks to Peter:thumbup:. Getting it off the Transit was another matter! (thanks Paul!)
  12. ....I did look at it..... but it would have cost me a few hundred £'s extra!
  13. ......or struggling to get the rest of the photos in the correct format!!!
  14. Evening All, I have been a bit of a "lurker" on Arbtalk since I joined. It has been a great source of information for me since I set out to become involved in the Arb industry, and for that I thank you all. To that end I am very close to my pending redundancy date - and full time Arb! So I thought I would share some pics of my new(ish) truck. As with most people, I have researched in detail different types of trucks and set ups. I ended up settling for an Iveco 35 - having nearly gone down the "O" license route - maybe in the future! Attached (hopefully) are some photos of the truck the day I bought her. Its an ex Cambs Council truck - so hasnt done much work! I decided to try and set it up myself - with some help from my friends........
  15. Steve, I would of had some cash , if I hadnt spent it all on deisel dropping off/picking up some one elses saws!!
  16. No not in the slightest - but in conjunction with the above statement (in Bold), it would suggest you may have already made your mind up! But that is your opinion - which we are all entitled to.
  17. You are correct, there will be due process. Whilst I wouldn't condone any actions carried out above and beyond the Rules of Engagement, You nor I know exactly what happened - to that end I think until the investigation is complete, it is a little harsh to imply that our Armed Forces "do as they like". They are Soldiers/Marines, as you rightly said "by their own choice". But that does not make them robots. Some of these lads (as young as eighteen) are on there first tour of duty, some are experienced. But the fact is that in the Patrol Bases they are shot at daily. When they go out on patrol they know that every step could be their last due to victim operated Improvised Explosive Devices. There is a high chance they will witness the death/life changing injury of a comrade during their six month tour. Above and beyond this they are fighting an enemy that cant be seen - they look and dress as the local nationals do. This would not excuse anyone taking the law into their own hands - but would it serve to show the pressure these lads endure everyday? I appreciate your view that they signed up to this - but no one knows exactly how they will react to these situations until they are in the thick of it themselves. Please dont judge - and if you do try and put yourself in the position of a Soldier/Marine in Helmand Province.
  18. Hi Owen,

Thats good news mate. I have just been down to Rory's today to take down an oak in his neighbours garden. I am steadily picking up work - its out their, just gotta find it and keep your prices down whilst you have two wages coming in!!

    Keep in touch mate,

    Si

  19. If you are still fancy a GM CS100, drop me PM. I have one that has only been used a handful of times and it will be going on the market soon!
  20. Cheers Ian. I am assuming that the oil is just brush/wipe on. But what about the wax? How is it applied? does it need buffed?
  21. Cheers Baggy, I will hit it with the sander and try some wax afterwards!
  22. Cheers Baggy - I am assuming that the clear creosote doesn't smell like the stuff you would use on a fence!? Wouldn't go down to well in the house!
  23. I recently came across some milled timber, so I decided to turn my hand to some woodwork. Below is my first attempt at a coffee table. Its a little "rough and ready" or Rustic! I need some advice on finishing it, please: 1. What do you apply to treat it - ensure there are no nasties crawling around in it! 2. Sanding - is there a set way to work the grades to get a good finish? 3. Stain or danish oil - or some thing else? 4. Wax or varnish? 5. Lastly, can I leave the bark on or am I best to strip it off? Sorry for all the questions and thanks in advance for any advice!
  24. Dan, I am in the same boat as yourself - all be it a little older:001_smile:, with only two years left (if I am not made redundant!) I emailed a few guys on this site whilst on tour and lined up some work for my post tour leave. It was a great insight into the industry (Thanks!!), showing that the work is physically demanding, but also gives great job satisfaction. I was only humping and dumping, but I would recommend it to give you a steer as to what your in for. I decided I couldnt wait for my resettlement and booked myself on a CS30/31(used SLC to part fund it). I did it At Kingswood Training Services - they are forces friendly, provide accomodation and the instructor we had, was very professional with a great depth of knowledge - mega banter aswell! They do a full service leavers cse which I will be attending when I get the boot!! Hope this helps, if you need any further info on it give me a shout. Good Luck Si
