  1. Strictly come blowing..... Will made the bottom section of the stump into a planter for the client....decay clearly visible......horse shoe of sound wood was there, but minimal on the weakest point.....
  2. .....showing extent of "mush" in stump.....
  3. Thanks for the help/advice guys. Below are some pics of the dismantle/ strictly come blowing........ With Will Ayers....
  4. Dam..... That means I'll need a Quad to fit the trailer!
  5. If I am not mistaken that's an ex MOD trailer. Used in Afghan etc behind a quad for carriage of rations, ammo, equipment or casualty extraction. Handy as you can drive them straight onto a Chinook.
  6. Cheers Shane, I have just contacted the "Briggs" dealer in UK. Next move is to get dirty and try and find some part numbers on the existing filters. Seems a bit like reinventing the wheel..........I'm sure some one could make some money supplying "service kits"!
  7. Like I said it's not something I wish to drag through a forum. Pete's a great salesman, I have had problems with the rest of the set up. Anyway I was told to go to "Briggs". Johnny Briggs! I assume it's a Briggs Stratton Engine, but I am struggling to confirm this and find someone to supply the parts - that's not in America!
  8. Done that mate........I won't go into the results, but let's just say my next chipper won't be green
  9. Can anyone steer me in the right direction for a service kit (filters) for this machine? Engine is marked as Daihatsu 950DT Plate states: Model 58A447 Type 0305-E2 I have checked the net, but got into a tangle of similar engines though not quite the one! Would be helpful if someone has already been through this pain........to save me doing the same! Thanks in advance:001_smile:
  10. I bought a 54 plate L200 ........ It was a good price so went for it without researching. Same issue with 4wd light....... Then engine light....... Got rid of ASAP Upon later research I should never have touched the L200.... and that's any age!
  11. .......Second visit should have been with a 660.......
  12. Had my first batch of log stores delivered today by Mark. Very impressed, well made and built to last! First one has already gone! Thanks Mark Top job!
  13. Thanks very much for your input folks, it's very much valued. Having talked to the client at length, they have decided to have the tree removed. We have been through the pros and cons and they have made the decision. I can understand where they are coming from. Although they value the tree, it's a fine balance between cost (working at a tree that may still fail), peace of mind (wandering will it fail) and the fact that they are going to plant another tree in its place. It's been a good learning curve for me, giving a lot more knowledge of causes, symptoms and consequences. For that I Thankyou!
  14. You may be able to see fracture at the top of the crown.....
  15. Tony, Jesse, Thanks for your input - I have shared it with my customer and they are very impressed - with you! I return this evening in the daylight, with a mallet and a steel rod......... Not good news. Using the mallet around the base it didn't give the dull thud I would expect......and as I placed my hand opposite where I was hitting I could feel a distinct vibration. This lead me to think that there is little sound wood within. Using the rod I prodded the wound. As your can see by the photos it went in quite a way, both up and down. It really is infested with ants aswell, which I am sure won't help. Having spoken to the new owners of the property, they told me that the building had extensive work done seven years ago. It is my guess that they removed a large limb to enable this work to take place.......consequently creating this wound. There is also a large fracture in the top of the crown.... Not sure whether the pics will show it. Tony I take on board what you have said about the horse shoe of sound wood....but.....the tree leans and is weighted heavily one way......which in my humble opinion may put a lot of stress on the decayed area. What do you think?
  16. Thanks Jesse I shall report back with my findings......
  17. Thanks for the replies. Yes, sorry, photo is on its side. It was a bit of a rush job as I was losing light. It looked to be infested with ants. The wood inside was mush, but I didn't get to see the full extent. I am going back to have another look in the daylight. Is it worth excavating the "mush" to establish the extent of the damage? It's only a couple of feet from the ground.......so I guess it doesn't bode well for the tree......
  18. Can anyone ID this and tell me the implications? It's at the base of a large Willow. The inside is badly decayed, not sure how deep as it was dark when I viewed it! Any direction would be appreciated. Thanks Si
  19. Could I have the details aswell please!
