That doesn't look too shabby - get the dust off and give it a little tune......or two:sneaky2:
That one is tucked away in the States for safe keeping

Haven't used the 268xp in a long while now:
-
I found you need to blip the throttle to let the saw clear its throat before cutting all the time, don't think Stihls auto tune is as precise as huskys'. Not that much cheaper than a 550 and hardly any weight difference and noticeably less grunt. I know it's a 5cc less saw, but in my mind it's worth spending that little extra.
The earlier versions of the 241 have terrible bog/lag issues. Mine does as well, even modified. I find I have to lay it on it's side to get rid of the bog, so it may be due to some type of pooling. Mebbe Spud can figger.

Worth knowing, We've got a couple of 200t to send to him as soon as I get round to it for him to work his magic on!
Assuming the 362 has good compression, they do well. This is with just an MM and conservative timing advance:

[/ame]I haven't done an MTronic one yet, so couldn't tell you how they respond. But the 261cm becomes quite angry after just a muffler mod.
-
I normally prefer stihl but have been massively disappointed recently with the 362 and 201t so thought I'd give husky a whirl and overall I'm impressed and the 550 seems to improve with every tank through it. For small felling/sending etc I think it's hard to beat
Send those Stihl's to Spud for a simple muff mod and timing, and they will become entirely different saws.
I had to put some work into my 241 before I was happy with it. I am still considering modifying the compression and redoing the transfers.
-
Cheers, that's settled then
Just so I'm sure, you put a husky bar on a stihl, and suddenly it shaves 4.5 seconds off its time!?
I've got you porting types sussed
Well, averaged 4-4.5 seconds less VS the 10 seconds with the Stihl bar. If I had found an Echo bar, times would have been truly mad then.

Still want 1
I'd rather have a Shindaiwa 452S. Far better limber, especially modified. The 241 has torque. I was freeing 2 foot DBH spruce blow downs today from their rootballs with it with hardly a complaint.

Any reason in particular Wyk? I'm inclined to go Husqy but the 241 looks like Stihl have accidentally made a decent new ground saw!
o no! I was really wanting to get a 241😞 what's up with it?It's good ported, and I use my ported one nearly every day. It is a very well built quality bit of kit. But stock, it just is so far behind the 550, especially at it's price point, I don't think it is good value. The 550 is more responsive and far more powerful, and only weighs ~10 ounces more than the 241.

I have a 241, and I just wanna say - get the 550.
-
Oh I want one for the 064 now
-
Ah hell. Might as well put all my photos in one post then...
Hrm.. wonder have I ever owned a saw above 50cc didn't have a wrap.. don't think so.
-
Wooo! Full wrap thread!
-
And how is it? Appreciatively better or wouldn't you bother again?
My 241 is basically doing duty as a 50cc ground saw. The bar started life as an 18" pixel 325. I wanted 325 over picco/LoPro for it's endurance since I am in dirty environments often enough and it keeps it's edge longer. Pixel, AKA narrow kerf, bars are as flimsy as picco bars, though. So we'll see how long she lasts. It is right at 70DL ~17" after I modified it to fit the 241. I still would rather have a ported 50cc saw, but since I got this saw in partial trade, I won't complain. She does rather well for her displacement, and is rather light, especially with an NK B&C. She's nearly twice as fast ported with a 325NK VS standard 325 set up.

That muffler is a real mess, carefully check the edges of the ports and transfers for metal bruising but hopefully you have got away with it!
wow
never seen that

Interested to hear what size bars people are running on what saws for felling and snedding and a comfy productive day in the woods.
Dolmars stihls and huskys as I'm trying to narrow down what I want on one.
Cheers
I'm runnin a 17" NK 325 on my ported 241CM.
-
Update..... My saw is going back in again!!! Still stalling, floods itself and only starts up again if you hold the throttle open. It's getting a new carb, new ignition system and a new electronic throttle system. Or something like that
My 241CM did exactly the same thing. A new carb has fixed it... for now...

Actually, all joking aside, the husky bar will improve the saw! Husky runs a narrower gauge chain, which is lighter and requires less power to run. Arguably he could run a narrow kerf bar and chain, but they're harder to find in the UK, assuming wyk is in Ireland rather than the USA currently.
That is exactly why that Stihl is wearing that bar. It's an Husqvarna "pixel" bar with Carlton narrow kerf semi chisel chain. Not sure I needed to do it, but I got the B&C for xmas, so I just made it work. The bar is a bit flimsy feeling, so we'll see how she lasts. Here she is ported VS muff modded, semi chisel VS full chisel. 14" bar VS 17"(it ended up at 70DL on 325 after I modded it to fit).

What if you have a monster tree to fell?
Cut it right down the middle and wedges, wedges, wedges!
-
Sacrilege doing that to a Husqvarna bar
And I had to hack that puppy up, too.
-
For all the Stihl fans:
-
Yeah, sorta sad. My 18" Husqvarna pixel bar was made in Canada, if that's any consolation.
Well, it's closer to 17" since I sort of had to massage it to fit.
-
When I listed my 3 the ported bit was a given
Unless I hit an 8' tree, I wouldn't need a third saw.
-
A ported 261cm and a ported 044 or 046. I currently run a ported 241cm and a ported 044.
-
Pull that top end off and have a look.

I wonder would tweaking the butterflies a bit help that...
