281XP in da haus(and woods)

Is rapeseed oil different to veg oil? Veg oil goes gummy after it has got hot and also seems to eat into the paint and magnesium parts
-
The joys of living in France - chain oil available in the local supermarket at 9 euros for five litres! Maybe add some to your shopping list if you're doing a booze cruise this summer!
And cheap Canard Du Confit.
Those oil prices aren't much more than stateside. I used to buy from the local petro company for $8/gallon(3.8 litres) before I switched to rapeseed.
-
Been using rapeseed for years, in all manner of weather, in saws that sit and saws that work. Never gummed anything up. ALways worked just fine.

OK, the 391 - 365 difference is + 0.2 Kg, shouldn't be much difference to a West Highlander & with more power, you wont be holding it for as long.
365 be quick on 18"
couldnt have put it better myself.

I wouldn't quote factory specified weights - they are almost always incorrect.
An 034AV(though I have seen one weigh a few ounces less than this one here):
365xt(same weight as a 372xt):
The 555 weighs similarly to the 034(but it a much better saw in stock form):
I haven't weighed it yet, but our 391 feels as heavy as my 044 does. Judging by the weight of the 460 rancher, I wouldn't be surprised if the 391 weighed the same as a 365xt - which would be a better choice than the 391 in my opinion.
You may also want to check what dealers do you have local to you, and what prices are they asking for their saws?
Personally, for a home owner that wants to run an 18" bar, I would go with a 261cm and 325 chain and just mod the muffler.

Oops - that's a JOnsered.
-
I suggest a DOlmar
-
cheap as chips is the husky 365 easy to start but don't use the decomp valve the saw have bags of power 70cc engine will pull the pants down on a stihl 261
It better - it weighs nearly 3 lbs more.
-
What is the compression? Small saws can often run up to 225psi or so without detonation on quality fuel.
-
Many of the 'homeowner' saws sold in the US are made by Stihl USA. No duties, and only state and local taxes, which are 1/4-1/2 what they are in the UK. Oregon has no sales tax, and Alaska's amounts to an average of 1.6% sales tax. 3 other states have no sales tax, as well. When the 440 was still sold, a coworker of mine got one in Washington State for the equivalent of less than 500stg at the time out the door.

Get a 261 before the 391. Not a big power difference, less weight, less vibration, longer lasting. And once muffler modded, the thing is a terror.

GOnna try for a bench out of this:

The (70.7cc non-xt) 372xp is one of the most "modification friendly" models out there. More gains can be had on that model/version than on most others, if the one that does it knows what to do.
As well as it's 65cc non xt brethren, as I mentioned earlier. I can easily make a 65cc non XT smoke a ported XT. There's just so much more you can do with that cylinder.

If you can, get the 365 special and send it to spud. You can make a 365 special run very strong.

Wow! great pics, guys!

HI WYK that's not abuse mate GET SOME LARGE BUTTS ON THE TRAILER THANKS JON
We're currently only removing the larch and spruce blow downs. Afraid I've not much choice for size. Depending on how much the mills give, sometimes it's worth more to turn in to firewood.

Tractor abuse:
-
Earlier this day on the ranch in Waterford(Tipperary is across the river up ahead).
-
That 420 and the 7900 are the only modern saws I know that have them. Some older McCullochs had loads of ports, though.
-
I'm surprised that there was enough wall thickness to get it in - you wouldn't want to drill through that:blushing:
Ah, just realized ya thought I added it, or maybe funnin me. No, for some unknown reason, Dolmar put that in. I think it's a mistake in this chassis - but only if you're gonna port it. Stock, it seems to help midrange torque a lot. But good factory ports to start would have done that...
How do we not have a chainsaw photo thread?
