  1. Going to weigh my, by now "super-dry" 0.5m3 billet bundles. Got 6 sitting on rails up out of the wet. So who wants to take a punt on likely weight/weights? therin. Also going to measure the volume of wood contained within the 0.5m3 billet bundles by water displacment:001_rolleyes: THEN I WILL KNOW something, not quite sure what? but hey:lol: PS I just ordered a 300kg LoadLink Lite "crane scale", so gotta play with my new toy see Crane Scales - Precision Weighing Scales - ScalesOnline.co.uk Now need to find a telehandlr/loader to hand the crane scales from
  2. I have used (near enough) a 1/2 of a 5.1m by 10m bay, filled about 2.25 high so 5*10*2.25/2=56m3=GULP To heat about 3750ft2 of 1995 insulation std new build. The living room is frequently abane 30deg of an evening mind. PS Rule of thumb I saw somewhere = 1.0m3 for every kW of boiler installed. Since I have still not properly insulated the roofspace, and am running the Solarbayer sans modulating control panel,, i.e. fan blowing at 100% from start to finish. This fig. of 40m3 wood consumption for 40kW would prob be spot on. So what is 40m3 of softwood worth, were I to sell it. DONT tell me please
  3. I attended a RHI briefing session, back before Christmas past. No new information, and after "questions" had resulted in a few inane enquiries. I asked " Was owt going to be done about the cowboys" this time after our absoulety shambolic "Clearskies" install a wheen o year ago. "Not pertinent to this discuission I was told" PS 5.5 m of flue instead of the min 10m. Expansion tank plumbed in 28mm copper 5.5m of flue clearly visibly "off plumb" leaking capillary joints. wrong sized expansion vessel. etc etc From an alledged "certified" installer. Scheesh!
  4. Clinton, I "double blind" contacted Timberking on the Eve of Christmas Eve, or perhaps actually over the Christmas period. Quite astounded to very promptly, get a reply, from Will Johnston, Company President. Who appears to be "as straight as a Die" Very very impressed by the ethos of Timberking as a firm. Simply from my email conversations with Will. And, by gosh, I sure know how to be picky. Regards, Marcus PS i got a tk2000 price but 3 month ood by now.
  5. She must be some kinda looker(or somfink) fer to be kept in that "style"
  6. Better make sure yer running on clear diesel before you risk the Border crossing!
  7. We in NI are still awaiting, a shambles would not begin to describe the ongoing dysfunction.
  8. I was aware of the Merlo Multifarmer, and indeed "rate" the Merlo brand. However despite the hundred odd acres, I dont farm, and rather I want to sommat compact for working in around the house, garden and relatively small sheds. Plus sommat small enough to bring billets/pallets of firewood into the boiler-house. And handling firewood. Anyway the wee cross cut saw is Cat 1 and easy driven. Owt else can be driven direct offen the high flow hydraulics Plus 2.5 bogged tonnes, should I venture up the Moss, is way easier to extract. cheers marcus
  9. Telehandler | TH 412 | Wacker Neuson N.B. Factory offered option of 3 point linkage and 540PTO:thumbup: Just need to find a second hand one:confused1::confused1:
  10. Flipping obvious (from the apparent age of most of the trees/saplings) that these found objects were placed over the leader shoots(particularly the helmets) or in a forks(artillery shell) of a young tree. To be allowed to grow in. Scheesh!
  11. cough cough wot e said cept fancier. PS Niftysteve, If there is no ceiling (an annular gap), do those rules:lol: still apply. Since the rising room air will insulate around/cool down the flue pipe and prevent heat getting trapped next the ceiling. cheers m
  12. But the tall cylindrical stoves should be able to take long logs stood on their ends, despite the small footprint? Marcus
  13. Normal arrangment: Obviously require to insulate where it goes through the floor, but no reason not to use single skin steel flue pipe upstairs. Or? Consider an annular gap twixt the floor and the flue to allow the excess warm air to rise up through to the upstairs? Because I suspect though some insulation round at least some of the flue is necessary to keep the flu gases hot enough /warm enough so as to ensure a good "draw" ? Also more issues with condensate running back down if the flue is too cold. i.e No free lunches. m
  14. cough cough Just ordered a Viking Mb755KS:thumbup:. After borrowing and trying a well knackered privately owned one. Which stuffed the damp heavy grass right into the back of the Box. Also well hammered together, without being murder heavy . Fingers crossed. m
  15. Simplistically a long reach demolition excavator with the tree killer head on.
  16. Ah nivver even know they existed! A Cat Challenger based bit of Kit I suspect The "Combat Engineer Tractor" was more my vintage. Some o them for sale as well. Without the solid rocket propelled Anchor for the winch rope unfortunately. Werry werry handy for winching oneself up a hostile held riverbank.
  17. Simply kill with repeated doses of Glypsyophate = brand name "Roundup" Now is a particularly good time for the first dose on the vigerous new growth. Takes multiple applications but you WILL eventually wear it down. Glypsyophate is also PERFECTLY safe. Or cut the stems off at ground level (and dispose of correctly) and pour inject Roundup/glysophate into the hollow stems. regards, Marcus
  18. And a built in "Teasmade" an paper delivery system as well. jat M
  19. Mac, (i) I choked on the price. Cos there is much better kit to spend 20+k on out there. (ii) & Like you, I wondered about the stupid low hours. (iii) Or is it just a "Gill in a Pint pot"? in terms of productivity. but Probably grant funded/or NGO type organisation/quasi charity outfit. sigh
  20. I reckoned the "Tempest" in the second clip was a very efficient set up with no wasted ram travel time on the backstroke.(seen working at the 2012 APF Show) I also like the first one. cept he needs a mini elevator(or a simple hydraulic pusher perhaps ?) to raise the split billets up to a waist high table for onward swinging into the billet bundler. And like most logging ops requires more than one operator for a slick operation. Horses for courses. P.S. For ussens here in the "Island of Ireland" a Guiness dispenser would be most appropriate! M
