  1. i found the internet, local papers and local shop windows the best but you cant beat word mouth its free. from one person i delivered logs to last winter i got 8 new clients.
  2. ive got an old family book and it says my gr gr grandfather used to sell 100 logs for 10 shillings which i think is 50p and that was delivered in 1944 and now i charge £32 for 100 logs and ive still got an old sign in the yard that says £6 per 100 logs and i think that was from about 1992 now there £24 collected
  3. ive always sold both whatever comes in yard gets cut and sold. as long as its seasoned people are happy.
  4. does anyone know how many 8"x5" logs you can roughly get in a m3 bag because i sell mine for £32 per 100 and i wanted to know how that works out price wise to the rest of you selling in m3 bags.
  5. yeah i would go with the kindlet but if you aint got the money and looking to do it small scale then get yourself a billhook and do by hand.
  6. i had big red wood tree come in the yard about 2 years some of the bigger stuff went for logs but it makes really, really good kindling!
  7. i find when cutting slab wood on the sawbench the logs seem to burn hotter and last longer then split logs plus i just think they look better done on the sawbench and its faster then using a splitter
  8. what do you think make better logs? split logs or logs done on the sawbench or is it all the same. all my logs are done on the sawbench and i prefer them for burning but i think people prefer splilt logs.
  9. nearly all my logs are delieverd, carried and stacked but i only do that cos no one else was and i know i get a lot of work because of it. plus a lot of people round here have to have them dumped in the road.
  10. ive sold a few to people stocking up early! but im mainly selling logs for barbecues and chimineas. i wish more people would stock up early.
  11. you can earn a living just from firewood and a good one. my family have for many years then my dad lost it all though drinking and gambling. ive started from scratch but i think i will be able to earn a living just from firewood by next year and my uncle has be doing it for 30 years
  12. im selling my chiminea logs for £6 per net delivered min: 5 nets. and there having a couple of nets of kindling at £6 aswell and like i said im shifting a few.
  13. no there not special logs there just smaller logs i ask a few of the tree boys who drop wood in too me to trim out some branch wood instead of putting though the chipper i cut it up put it nets and hey presto! chiminea logs! also there good for people with small open fires!
  14. ive just started putting cards in local shop windows (wimbledon, kingston area) for chiminea and barbecue logs. ive been very pleased with the out come im shifting quite a few nets of logs and kindling just wanted to know if any of you guys or selling firewood for chimineas there seems to be alot of people who have them.
  15. its getting bigger every year. i think people are mixing it up a lot more burning wood and central heating. we are selling more logs to more people but there not having as many logs as they used too!
  16. many years ago a woman come down to my grandads yard and asked how much for the logs my grandad told her the price but she said you've got loads of them you should be giveing them away to which my grandad said: sainsburys have got loads of frozen peas but they dont give them away. she got back in her car and drove off with the hump.
  17. your not wrong mate it was a lovely place.

  18. i dont how many logs ive sold all together this year but i know ive sold 120,000 to pizza shops and 50,000 to pubs but i dont what ive sold to private clients ill tell you once ive done last years tax return.
  19. it takes me 20-30 mins to load 1000 logs on my own so two of us is about 10-15 mins. so it does not take long but i like i say my family have done it this way for a long time so my clients are used to buying by the hundred.
  20. its the way my family have done it since the 1930's its not that bad cut the logs loose in to the shed you put them in to bins of 25 in the yard client comes tip the logs in to there boot and when doing delveries the client orders 1000 logs you've got two hands so thats 500 throws simples:thumbup1:
  21. when we sell them in the yard there in bins with 25 logs in each bin and when we deliver we load the van up with whats been ordered and unload them in bins if your doing more than one client we count them out of the van in bins of 50 logs and the logs are always the same size inless they order doubles.
  22. ive noticed that everyone seems to sell there logs by volume just wanted know if anyone sells by the hundred. i sell my logs by the hundred my logs are about 8" by 5" and a 100 logs picked up from the yard is £24 and a 100 logs delivered, carried and stacked is £32 this is the way my family have done it for many years.
  23. yeah i live 10 mins from figgs marsh.
