yeah we've a telehandler and log tongs to not so worried about that, tbh i've only got vertical as thats how i started out 20 years ago i'd be happy with a horizontal but needs to be able to cope with long and big diameter...

milling perhaps twice a week large diameter beaming through and through timber mainly hardwoods but large diameter over 1mtr and up to 36 foot, currently using a band rack and a circular rack with 8 foot blade but need to get more "up to date" and commercial, its taking too long and loosing too much in kerf. general thought were horizontal band mill but no idea what make or new/ 2nd hand... budget 10-20k? any ideas?

great shame I'd have bid 1500 if nearer, looks a nice stick, transport kills it for me!

I'm in a similar boat, currently using a 6'6 dia bladed rack with a 30 foot table, not cutting all the time, usually a fill in over wwinter, mainly beaming and planking oak for air dry/ historic building repairs, I'd like a wide blade quicker horizontal band mill, but at what cost? I've seen a few mizers and impressed in pine saw logs but not really with narrow bands through large dia hardwoods like we have to deal with.... any thoughts? best so far was a tom sawyer but again older tech. and like hens teeth to buy and hold their money.

no i agree, but you try find even the remains of a decent large horizontal for similar money? I've been looking for a forrestor / tom sawyer or similar about 5 years and nothing or crackers money. last one was over 18k!

I'd have jumped at it, looking for a forrester or large horizontal similar atm.

did fancy a tom sawyer but theyre massive money and like hens teeth. I couldn't justify 26K the last one I was offered!

I'd be interested im looking to move up from big rack benches into a large horizontal or band mill, used a trekker and just lost out on one at 6k on ebay, am I dreaming of getting a wide band mill to cope with over mtr dia timber for this?

Atkinson walker did ours not long ago, Feb, but I know the chap who hammered them was coming up to retirement, ours is a 6 footer, I've 4 racks here, one set up and one rebuilt portable, one the others are projects. all stenner and gunn number 4s. the one set up is 28 foot steel table, hydraulic feed with 4 speeds (gearbox) and spool valve. if you look at Simmonds they supply the bits (teeth) EPS in wiveliscombe do them (Simonds agents) but best thing we got was a jockey grinder 110v and I can sharpen the 6 foot blade in minutes now, just looking to get a big horizontal now! the trees keep getting bigger!
