  1. Had exactly the same saw, same problem it was the ignition coil, mine just cut out halfway through a cut, just like it had been switched off.
  2. Send me a pm or email with quantities etc, i may be able to help with the wellingborough site.
  3. Fair play to you, but 4m3 you could easily do in a morning. i would have thought someone local would do it for less than you can hire a splitter.
  4. Yes, i have a 2 bed house in Rushden northants that will most likely be on the market in the very near future.

  9. A few pics, hope it has worked !! fist is the steel i found, it is 1.9mtr long, 100mm wide and 200mm deep, i did not think this was strong enough and would twist so have beefed it up using some quarter inch angle. The Ram is an old one i found in the shed, it used to on a set of ring rolls, easily lifted 5 ton in its previous use so with the right pump and power unit should have plenty of power. For those interested it has a stoke of 850mm, ram external bore of 50mm, and cylinder bore of 110mm. Bugger, no pics, where did they go, must have been lost in transit !!
  10. If its only four cubic metres what is wrong with an axe ?
  11. Thanks, The ebay item has some similiar ideas to what mine is going to be, although the four ram idea ?? i am only planning to use one, the splitting head is along the same lines though. I have a few pics, just working out how to load them on here.
  12. I would leave nothing in your van, i do not do it in my own vehicles and would not expect others to, therefore i would not need to tidy it, unless it was part of a working day. Hard to explain, but i work from dawn till dusk, sometimes later than that.. rarely take a lunch/breakfast break, my last day off sick was four years ago, i do not like slackers, and every person i have ever met/worked with or for cannot keep up or understand how or why i am the way i am. Only one man has ever worked with me that has the same attitude and he is one of a kind, you think your man is good........ I agree with the football comment, i think it is a waste of time and money and people take advantage of it and waste half a day talking about it, should be banned !! Thankfully my work ethics are well known in my area and work is plentifull due to this. Makes a change to see a proper job offer in black and white, not wrapped up in b/s as per usual.
  13. Thankyou for that, I will check the local council to see if the have the mapping service. Knowing the farmer and from the brief chat we had...... He will more than likely re-plant, he was asking me about grants and schemes to look at, and he usually replaces trees he loses, so would be suprised if he does not re-plant When i say clear fell, as i understand it, it will only be the poplar he wants to clear out, it sounds like there are some other hardwoods involved but they are not to be cleared, the poplar are at the end of thier life and plenty have already dropped naturally, as i say, i am in the dark about it all at present, i have agreed to call in on him one day this week to view the site.
  14. Pretty much as i guessed then, i told him that i thought it would be needed, having only dealt with dangerous trees (exempt) i was not certain what exemptions applied for him if any. I am just browsing the fc site now, doesnt give huge amounts of info though, any ideas of costs/timescale involved in obtaining said licence. Cheers.
  15. Hope this is the right place..... Had a call from a friendly farmer tonight, he is looking to clear fell approx two acres of mature poplar, around 200 hundred trees i believe, dont know why, and not having seen it i know nothing about it. He wants to know if permission needs to be sought to fell this amount, is there a website that shows tpo's etc, and what do you guys reckon ?
  16. The funny thing is, i tick every box except two, i would not clean your van in my own time, and i would not work a week as an interview. I would have moved to scotland to work for such an upfront and open boss as you appear to be, i like straight talking people ! Ps, your old groundie would have his eyes opened if he worked with me for a few weeks ! Pps, good luck, sure you will go far. Rob.
  17. The plan is too have a changeable splitting head, i will have a 2 way, 4way, and a multiple(maybe 12) way, possibly on a quick release pin, i have not made a decision yet how i am going to do that bit. Lol at the poplar comment, yes it is a hardwood, but does split very easy, i will be looking to put upto 3ft diameter rings through, not sure i will get them in one go though ! Am nipping down the workshop later, so will get a few pics. Rob.
  18. For those of you that are interested i have started gathering all the required bits today, if there is any sort of interest i will take some pics as i go and do a thread, i am no expert, and i will be doing it all on a budget of pretty much nothing, so lots of recycling going on (lumps of scrap brought back to life basicly) but it is the sort of thing i enjoy making in my spare time. Rob.
  19. To be fair, if he aint got no more sense than that....... I mean... you wouldnt stand on top of a chainsaw cos its blunt and not cutting quick enough would you ?? Like all machines, 95% of the time it is operator mistake/fatigue/complacency that causes accidents, trouble with this world nowadays is people are always looking to put the blame on something instead of thinking "why did i do that" The only dealings i have had with the hse and they are little hitlers, always looking to find fault, why cant more people live in the real world. Rob

    Poplar

Technicly it is a hard wood, but in reality it is somewhere right in the middle lol. Would still need to be a big tree to go 5 ton.
  21. How the hell did he manage that ?? I have one and reckon its a brilliant bit of kit, if people got more used to thinking for themselves and used some common sense they are fine, i have been running mine for nearly 15yrs without a problem, you just need to be on the ball. Rob.
  22. God i can be dense sometimes, i just had a second look and it all dropped into place ! Now excuse me while i go dye my hair blonde ! Rob.
