Permission to carry on ?
  7. Mr Bullman I read all 23 pages of this thread before I posted why have you removed what I put and left the rest . How come you hav'nt been a bit more pro active in curbing people wording as words I used appeared in previous threads ? Im not botherd or out just wonderd if the rules have changed ?
  8. Mate do yourself a favour! Dont go busting a boiler to do the work of ten men the first week you work, all this does is.... (1) make the other groundies look slow and that will get their goat up. (2) you could burn yourself out and wonder wtf you've started. (3) You could end up working slower because your knackerd and look like you cant even make the week. The first few days are referd to as the ( Honeymoon period ) its only when this has worn off that an employer will know if your any good Hence My advice would be to start as you mean to carry on . Ive found that people that are to keen make more work than they do, and more experienced people get the work done with the minimum effort and fuss, Stay Buddy

  10. My old Man used to say (Faint heart never won fair Maiden ) If I was you I would look for a job as a groundy with a firm and work your way up rather than trying to go straight in as a climber and find you've bitten off more than you can chew

  13. If a storm is coming in we always say ( it looks a bit black over Wills mothers) A bent branch is a (Dogs leg) If I cut branches up in the back of the truck I say Im (Mullering it up)
  14. Hi mate! welcome to the thread What are the dimensions of the stakes and binders you buy and what (roughly) is the going rate price wise ?
  15. I think your on the right track and you've got the price spot on (If it was Me) I would try to make it a feature in the garden by adding a few details that would only take a small ammount of time, If you've got a Radial arm saw, roughter or saw bench then you could rebate the side slats in at an angle to deflect the rain out and maybe run a roughter up the corners of the front 2 posts, just to add the details that make the customer think that it wasnt something they could have done PS...Have a look around and see if you can scrounge pallets for the bases as this will help keep the cost down and the profits up
  16. Go old school and get a SJ410 loads of aftermarket boltons, I bought mine for £150 three years ago, the most I've spent on it is £40 for a gerry can and holder that I use as a petrol tank. Cheap tax cheap insurance go anywhere

  19. My old man used to say " Dogs ,Women, and Walnut trees, the more you beat them the better they be" I think you might be right, it maybe that the tree feels that it should produce seed via fruit to further its existence .

  21. Lovely finish on the bowl Well done that man
  22. Yeah charcoal sounds like its worth a go, even if I made a bit for friends and family . Id like to try as many things as possible just to say I've had ago, the frustrating thing is that all the time Im up the woods playing I should be grafting or spending time with my girls. cant wait for the better weather
  23. Well I managed to escape for a couple of hours today and had another go in the copse Im still scrathin my head for ideas on products as everything in there is about as straight as a dogs leg :. I cut a few 8ft bean sticks, some 6ft posts/stakes and a few 30 inch flower stakes. Not sure if they will sell when everybody gets the gardening bug and I do a boot sale, but its worth a shot, as for the log wood Im going to leave it stacked and chop, split, and sprout sack it tail end of the summer ready for the cold weather. I was unsure about burning up so have decided to make stacks of the dead wood and top to rot down, with a bit of luck it will encourage the beasties Im in the dark with this new venture and any ideas or comments would be appreciated
  24. On another thread about ring barking dangerous tree's to reduce their weight I posted that Dad used to ring bark apple tree's to slow them up, well I found a page in an old book that explains and also a picture of the knife he used . Have any of you on here used this method ?
  25. No it did'nt kill them It used to be common practice to slow down over vigorous growth Not sure if you'll find it in the new books but its in one of my pre war pruning books. Ill post a thread with a picture of the knife he used and a bit more info if its of interest to anybody ?
