  1. Hi found this inside a willow that we took down today. was very rotten and hollow in the middle. there were some cavities as well and there were slugs inside, were they what did this? it also had honey fungus boot laces, but i dont think this had ote to do with it? cheers Gary
  2. what about us level 3s dave? what about an arb show to see the climbing comps?
  3. Have you tried the body grip traps? a keeper mate of mine has just got some and the do work very well. they are to be used in the same sort of places as a fen trap, some mabey not your cup of tea? MAGNUM/BODY TRAPS - Our Online Shop
  4. Hi Mog, thanks for that. sounds like my next rope will be a smaller one then. Rachis, i use a system simular to that for if i have a long way to go up a tree, i do it slightly differnetly to that tho. i tie a alpine butterfly into the static line and clip the carabiner with the hitch climber into that. Dilz, i do have a HC pulley, love it makes everything neat and tidy
  5. nice job there, looks like you had a good fun with them
  6. cheers Dilz, ill have to try that one out, i nomaly go 3 and 3
  7. i have a petzl pulley and they wont fit through it. i use a small D shakel that the rope fits through and the spliced eye dosent, so it catches and pulls it out
  8. old mill, i have a mate with a lock jack and i do like it, but not the price tag harmaony arb, i have 8mm OP and i use 13mm yale xtc rope. ill have to try trying a bit looser as it wouldnt self tend even on 90ft beech trees. how many wraps and coils do you have on your v.t's?
  9. Hi, i have been climbing on a v.t for a while and am very happy with it. but now i am after a knot that will self tend. i have tried a knut in a few different configurations but cant get it to self tend. the tree i tried it on wasnt very big so mabey there wasnt enough pull on the rope to get it to self tend? so what knots do you use that will self tend? Gary
  10. role on tomorow iv noticed there are a few about like that, and yet there are some right next to them that are fine? i would have guessed the dry weather would have had something to do with it but after seeing sine right next to affected ones maybe not?
  11. would one of them be in front of the old hall dave?
  12. sounds like ill have to go back and have another look to see if it has develop some more then. i would think that the tree will just be left to do what ever it wants as its on farmland next to a public footpath so ill have to rember to walk faster past it in the future
  13. thanks for that , looks to take on a few different shapes? as there are a few on the one stem would you say its about had it? the willow dosent look in the best of states. its on a public footpath so could be a bit dodgy if it fell on someone
  14. HI all could you help me with this, i found it on a willow, there were 5/6 on it. all about 10ft off the ground, about football sized some of them. cheers, Gary
  15. nice one, well done
  16. i use jungle formual 'tropical strength'. i was first put onto it by a forestry mate and it seems to do the trick
  17. ah, thanks very much. it sounds like the cossus cossus then. i didnt know that the green wood peckers fed so low down. as for the balck woodpeckers i dont think we have them here? certainly have never seen any here
  18. wouldn't think so, should have said that it is a side on shot and the moss is at the bottom of the tree so its only about a foot off the ground
  19. thanks, so will acorns still appear or will the galls stop these forming?
  20. are these galls? if so what sort? also any ideas what has done this to this willow?
  21. i saw these today, there were a few of the around the base of a fair sized beech. they were only in between the buttresses, but as i am useless at fungi id (trying to learn) could someone tell me what they are?
  22. good point on foxes, would be awsome for cubbing in summer evenings when the whole litter turns up
  23. the blasers are about the fastest actions that were alowed, is there much advantage with semi auto in centre fire or not?
  24. thanks for the replys. agg, iv only just noticed it as iv not been that way for a month or so. the branches seem to be more affected on the lower limbs, although the odd limb higher up is affected. its not on the farm side, that i can see, and the side its on is sheltered. there are some other trees near by in more exposed positions that look fine
