  1. Anyone have any success with this? Client wants to let newly felled cypress and Lawson's stumps decompose naturally but speedily... I will just inform them, not actually go back to do something. I was thinking anything with carbohydrates/sugars should speed things up. They are in dry areas, exposed. Pile some compost around them and keep moist? Cheers for any info
  2. Thanks, I have gone for the Pfanner arborist type A as they were as cheap as they will ever get, I think, but will keep the Engelbert Strauss in mind for the next time if these ones prove to be too hot.
  3. Are they lighter and cooler than your stretch airs? Are your stretch airs this model? Cheers!
  4. Cheers, I will pop in to Northern Arb tomorrow to check some out
  5. Anyone know what the difference is between these two?: Pfanner Arborist chainsaw trousers Type A (Red) and Pfanner Gladiator "Ventilation Different but same price...
  6. Thanks for the replies. I should specify that this would be for climbing in. I am a 32 waist so don't want braces. I currently have SIP progress type C which are holding up as well though have been patched up a fair few times and are now quite saggy. I will never get Hiflex or Waipouas again. What about the Husqvarna technicals + extreme? Cheers!
  7. I have been looking, for the last hour, on the net for the lightest and coolest chainsaw trousers type A but can't really decide what is what. I tried the Pfanner Gladiator ventilations at the Arb show (I really should have spent more time trying different trousers...) and they were ok but not a perfect fit. Anyone have experience wearing these or others in hot climates that they really rate? Thanks, Island
  8. Cheers! I will have to wait for the Android version. Currently using Virginia Tech tree id which works quite well.
  9. Spotted on the base and lower stem of a mature but topped and then put in a pollarding cycle horse chestnut. First one I am quite sure is Xylaria polymorpha or dead man's fingers or maybe a close relative? Second I have no idea. Image 3 is top view Image 4 is side 5 is bottom The trunk was covered in old brackets which I imagine were from the same fungus. None larger than that one. I imagine that it is also saprophytic, though it was hard to tell if what it was on was dead or alive. Anybody? Thank you
  10. I am based in Sheffield but I would be happy to travel around the country (and beyond?) to do some tree surveys/inspections. I have: Level 4 Diploma in Arboriculture Professional Tree Inspection Certificate Lots of practical tree surgery experience Some various surveying experience Professional Indemnity insurance To get in contact with me, please use whatever medium you prefer. My number is +44 (0)7923331962 Email: [email protected] Linkedin Profile Thank you, Island
  11. I could be tempted to organize an SRT workshop around Sheffield, though I would need an SRT expert to present it I think. If you know one, let me know and we might get something going. It would be fun
  12. Novice, Expert and Premier climbs it seems. First two have the rope already set up and last you set up your own rope. I am definitely far from a super climber but I have never had someone set up my line for me, which is why I was thinking of going the premier route.
  13. For fun, I would like to do a climb at the show. I have never participated in this sort of thing before so I just want to make sure that I don't get disqualified for whatever reason. I have read the rules... I am thinking of doing the premier climb as I can set up my own line but; Do you have to set one main anchor from the start and leave it? I don't have a big shot so I don't necessarily get the best/top anchor from the first go. If I can't reach the optimal crotch, I go with what I can get and then climb up to set up my main anchor. can one do this? Can one use SRWP for the whole thing? Using Rope Wrench and hitchlimber. That is all I can think of right now. Any advice appreciated. Cheers!
  14. Camping Friday night. Just have to sort out a tent. Thinking of trying the premier climb. Anybody else?
  15. Cheers and thank you Gary. Unfortunately I am never really your way but if I get do come that way I shall say hello. :-) For now I think I will just purchase the encyclopedia as that will keep me busy for a while.
  16. I am going to get the The Body Language of Trees (Encyclopedia of Visual Tree Assessment) - Claus Mattheck. Just wondering if it is worth it to get the Updated Field Guide for Visual Tree Assessment - Claus Mattheck. Is the field guide somewhat trumped, rendered redundant, by the encyclopedia? Thanks, Island
  17. Sorry you also asked how accurate it is: I have no idea, I don't actually use the GPS function/haven't needed to, but it is there.
  18. Here is the alternative: [ame] [/ame]Nice to see progression.
  19. Hey Gary, It doesn't go straight into a schedule but it saves a lot of time. Here is a vid of what it looks like to use and then a spreadsheet with what it translates into. The data gets uploaded and then downloaded into a spreadsheet. It is far from perfect but it is free, so until I get more surveys coming in this is it. Also check out Autocad 360 which also runs on android. With it, you can view and edit dxf and dwg files on the survey site. Been meaning to update all this "info" to Arbtalk for a while now but... Anyway, I hope it helps! Island Dropbox download.xls
  20. Try Kobotoolbox, I use it for surveys.
