  1. I thought this might be of interest to some, first job back in India: Tree Transplant India | Island Lescure, Consulting Arborist
  2. Cool. Just checking if that was in the pipeline. Cheers
  3. Looks great! Any plans to add a similar weight bearing top attachment to the CBDB to switch between srt and drt?
  4. Anyone think there are cooler boots than Airstreams? Moving to India and need something super cool, not necessarily swanky cool, more temperature cool. To climb and cut. These look really good but I have been told that they are hotter than Airstreams. Anything else? Cheers

    <p>Hi David,</p>

    <p> </p>

<p>Just an update. I hope all is well. I hope you have connected with people around the area. I have been busy, as you can imagine. We are moving to India in the next month or two so I think I will give our meet-up a miss as there are no long term reasons for connecting (unless you are planning on coming to India)...</p>

    <p>Cheers,</p>

  6. Thanks. I've worn Airstreams in the "winter" over there and they were warm then already, but bearable. I will give the Andrews a pass then and get another pair of Airstreams as they seem the coolest. Sorry for slight derail...
  7. Cool I think I will give them a try! There seems to be two types; one with chainsaw protection (class3) and the other without...
  8. How light are the Andrews compared to Airstreams? By this I mean are they hot in the summer? Thinking of getting something else for Indian summers.
  9. Don't know how Keytree works(I have gone with Pear Tech), but on mine (Sony tablet) I get the map of the site I am surveying, plot the tree on that map (which is integrated in PocketGis) then enter my tree data and onto the next one. Once home, I just export the info into the Pear program and everything is in place with associated info (in the case of BS5837s) on the map. If I want to use the tablet's GPS, I just turn it on and it should somewhat accurately display my position on the map and there I plot the tree. To improve accuracy on the tablet/phone I was suggested something similar to what you showed: Cheap/less accurate: Qstarz BT-Q818x Bluetooth Sat Nav GPS Receiver or Universal Bluetooth GPS Receiver (Wirelessly Add GPS To Your Devices), Expensive/accurate: Arrow 100 or 200 I hope this helps. 10. quite a few big elms in South Yorkshire and Derbyshire...
  11. Yes, 3 day one. I think most people in the UK surveying trees have as it is almost a prerequisite. Good, pretty intense for me. People on my course were from many levels and experience. Most with Higher National Diplomas but at least one with no formal qualifications but 30 years of experience. I think every one learned something...
  12. Collins Tree guide was of no help. I have settled on C. macrocarpa 'goldcrest' from help of another member. The form and color are right (not in the book however, there it looks more like a C. m donard, whose form is too columnar to be it). I have looked at Hinoki but I think the wavy form of the branch and scales do not fit. Cheers
  13. Can anyone id this one please? Just curious really as I have already put it down as cypress species:blushing: No cones as quite young. Pretty soft. Pointed top/christmas treelike. 4 meters tall at present. I forgot to smell it... Not quite the usual acid yellow of golden leylandii. Note to self: Look at base for id tag. Thanks!
  14. Just got this together as I think it is a good base for people to see if they want to get into it. Nice venue; there are beeches which used to have cables and such linking them together. This is no longer used but some of the stuff is still up and some trees have dead eye bolts sticking out of them. We may make some wood fired pizza after the venue depending on how much interest we get so people can stick around, chat and eat pizza instead of getting stuck in traffic trying to get home. 15. Great stuff! Cheers guys. I am going to go with Philadelphus spp
  16. It seems really familiar... Thank you! Opposite branching No fruits or flowers present Small tree/shrub
  17. Just wondering what people's pros and cons are of the various systems offered. I have heard that there are some limitations or/and that people use different systems for different projects. Hopefully this will give me, and possibly anyone else looking into this, a more complete picture of these systems' capabilities and limitations. Please give your input and then I will try to compile it all together into a concise format. I have only tried Pear Technology, Kobo collect, QGIS, QCAD. So here is my start to it. Data Capture Pocket Gis Price: £500+ Pros: Works with Android and Windows Only need one device to carry map and data capture Works with GPS or without Allows plotting directly on an imported map Can edit data input fields in the field (though more tedious than in the office, unless you have a full Windows device perhaps) Can use existing templates for input fields which you can then modify to your needs Cons: Does not work with Mac Android version takes a bit of getting used to (only one I have tried) Kobo collect Price:free Pros: Can make your own input fields Can work with GPS Very clean and simple interface Cons: Cannot edit input fields in the field Does not allow plotting onto a map in the field Exported csv files are not "clean", for lack of a better word Limited number of characters in response field Mapping Software PT Mapper Pro Price: ~£850 Pros: Works directly with Pocket Gis Can import csv files Relatively user friendly Good support Works with Android and Windows Cons: Not Mac compatible Doesn't allow group RPAs, canopy spreads and shading without overlapping each tree/shrub in the group (not easily anyway) Does not import or export dwg files. Some incompatibilities between dxf files imported and exported. Any editing done to most tree attributes must be done in the csv file prior to import. I will have to add QGIS and QCAD later as I don't have anymore time right now.
  18. Hey, Thanks for the replies. I thought box elder had much more glossy leaves. Only deadwooding at present.
  19. I realize I should have taken the form as well as it is quite different to excelsior; it is denser, has many leaders max 10 meters tall It also has opposite branch arrangement. I would have never thought it was ash until I looked at it from close. Thanks!
