Hi Boaty, I am always busy and always have kit coming in but if I have it, I can fix it, if I don't, I can't!

Normal turn around is 1-2 weeks and 3 is unusual unless I have parts issues. If you need it done, get it in and will turn it around for you.

Cheers

Hi Neil,

I would normally tach the saw to around 13,000rpm (500 off max) after fitting but in your case, you may not be able to do this so would recommend turning the H screw out around 1/8th turn, fire the saw up and check it fourstrokes when flat out and then check the plug has a tan coloured electrode after an hours use.

If it is white or grey, richen the H screw again until tan but this is unlikely unless you have other issues.

Cheers

If you have another carb, try that. It may be the check valve blocked, that would mess up the high speed power. A mild seize would give you these symptoms as would an air leak.

Happy to look at it if you run out of talent.

Cheers

Hi Dan, I use Ipostparcels to ship. I am back from holiday now so the sooner it lands, the quicker I can get on with it.

Cheers

The cylinder is unlikely to be worn, if the compression is flagging a little then try fitting a Meteor piston but make sure you purchase the 42mm one if it isn't the later silverside model with the fuel primer bubble.

Hi Mick, from what I can see, the stroke of the older machine is 32mm and the newer one is 32.5mm, the crank parts are different part numbers as are the crankcases so my thinking is that it will not be a straight replacement and any modification will be a real gamble! I do have a scrapper old eddition 346, I don't know if the cylinder is OK as it has a bent crank but it may give you a solution if it is OK?

Hi Lawrence,

I have mailed you a load of questions and a possible plan - let me know if you are still interested.

Hi John,

The MS261 does have clutch needl bearing issues, the best you can do is to fit a steel cage needle bearing if you can get hold of one. The OEM part is fiberglass cage and tends to wear badly to the point the oiler arb breaks and excesive wear of the bearing causes the chain brake to fail.

If the crank is that worn then repair is probably uneconomical but if a new bearing and sprocket will do it, repair wont be too escassive.

The worrying part of your description is the worn crank shaft - Inspection of the saw, just drop it down and we can go from there - I know Martin well!

The exhaust port can be opened up to 70% of bore - that is around 2-3mm off each side of the port but blend the sides of the port so they are straight to the port outlet where it meets the exhaust. Make sure you bevel the port edges otherwise you can kiss the piston ring goodbye!

Uppers - I use a dremmel with a variety of grinding burrs and bits - I am getting to needing a right angled drive but not got one to date.

The 357Xp has some weird durations on the exhaust port - around 146* and a short blow down figure of around 13.5* - it thrives on transfer velocity hence the crank stuffers so don't bore those transfers out too much - rounding and smoothing is good here!

Good luck

Steve

Hi Andy - sorry to hear you have been done over. I tend to hold on to saws until I have received payment unless I really know the owner - you, I would trust 100% as we have done business in the past but generally that is the deal with me - cash up front!

It may be worth you crossing this one with Steve Bullman, he may say it is your own silly fault........sorry.... or may put the boot in a little harder!

Is the guy local - we could knock on his door, IMO, he got a belter of a deal from you and he is taking the piss big time - PM me his name as I will keep an eye out and swerve any business from him!

I guess you could threaten him with the police or legally - not sure it is worth it but TBH, it stinks!

Dawbacks are more fuel consumption, noise and not being able to give the saw to employees to use due to H&S. The saw should last for a good time, I haven't seen any detrimental effects to the life of the saw and have a few long service saws out there!

Hi Carl,

I have ported a couple of 395XPs and they respond to port widening, transfer work, muffler mod and igniton timing advance. I believe the 560 will come to life with a muffler mod. I don't know how much you know or have done but read the info on here and arborist site to learn more before cutting metal!

Hi Matty, I do sell saws but nothing like that at the moment, sorry

Steve

 14.
The 123 uses part 965 451 910, he does mention this part in his listing but not the model so can't be 100% sure - worth asking him! Steve

 15.

Thanks Ollie, hope it all goes well from now on!

Hi Chris,

Happy to talk with you, weekends are best, happy to look at your MS660, I am experimenting with my 066 currently so it may be worth waiting a litle. Happy to give advice on your saws and working on them, just don't make it a one way flow if you know what I mean - reciprocation is my middle name.

If a saw is ported by another, happy to work on it as far as maintenance goes but the stages of porting are firstly wideninng and flowing the cylinder and muffler, you then get in to popups and heavy modification that I dont provide as I don't have the time or equipment and the mods would get consideably more involved and technical - I have been there but only on my machines.

If you need prices then PM me, I get fed up with wannabees saying it is all easy - I have seen others idea of maintenance and saw work and it can be shocking!

Cheers

Hi Andy,

No, not at all, just taking the piss:-) It has always been about finding the right time and there never is so get it in here and I will do all I can to make this a beast! Just started on an old 066 I aquired and it is going to be a shyte or bust monster - another interesting little project.

Hope all is good with you and thanks for all the support - it does make a difference and sorry it has taken so long.

Cheers

Thanks Andy, I have doubt in my mind that this will be the last one;-)

 20.

Hi Andy,

I am not too loaded with work at the Mo so I guess it is time to work my magic again:-) Only got am MS200T coming in next week so send it in and I will see if I can get it done next weekend, Cheers

Steve

 21.

You have just missed one, I do have another on the shelf to refurb but it will be as time allows and it doesn't allow for much at the moment! Will let you know if I get round to doing it - sorry, just very busy.

Steve

 22.

Hi Ed, not really up on the price of latest saws but generally it depends on the look of the saw - shiney and new looking or heavy use and abuse, mechanical condition and then how desirable the saw model is. If it is in tidy condition - around 75% of new value is probably about right falling to 50% for older or more "used" examples.

Hope it helps

Steve

 23.

Hi Chris

The usual method is either to drop it off or to send it in by courier, the common places to try are inteparcel, parcel monkey, Ipostparcels and parcelforce.

Better PM me with when you need it looked at, I am not around for a week later this month but can sort something out.

Steve

 24.

Hi Colm,

You have my mail bud.

Just trying to get a strimmer head to fit on it. The cutter head casing has a crack in it but should be OK and the secondary pole has been shimmed as it is the wrong diameter but still worth the money I paid for it.

Been fixing a MS460 for a local guy and trying to get an MS660 up to full power again.
