  1. About 15yrs old. I can't remember what month, July August, I was asked to bring the general spread in a bit. I removed inward pointing branches, simplified the growth. None of the wounds were particularly big, biggest bits coming off were about 3-4 ins diameter. i used a silky and accurate cuts. i will go and have a look and take a photo.
  2. I pruned a cherry in summer last year, i bumped into the owner and learned that the tree has died!!! it was an ornamental tree in a garden with a mix of trees, fruit trees, hedge and shrubbery. and there didn't appear to be any disease in the garden at the time. i'm just wondering what i missed/ or if there is a disease in the county (Cheshire) affecting the cherries? travsi:confused1:
  3. thanks mark, i agree. i just didn't want to be defeated by a silly mistake. two chians for the bin t
  4. HSE and AFAG hobby horses excluded; thanks for some helpful suggestions, yes I am using a 4mm file. I don't have any trouble sharpening my 3/8ths chains, just having a bad day with the picco? chain. someone (will remain nameless) has sharpended the chains on a machine, blued the teeth and melted burrs that won't file off by hand. 5. what is the best way to sharpen the ms200t? i seem to be filing the links as well as the teeth. is a dremel any good?
  6. an engineer told me to get some chalk on the file before you use it, then the file doesn't get clogged up; seems to work, however i still go through too many files, and am wondering what the alternatives are. i have used the big oregon bench mounted grinder, how long do their grinder wheels last for ?
  7. no, the idiots who refer to the death knot are talking about out trusty bowline. you should see my face when they say it!

  11. my first photo didn't do the job really, there are two tree trunks side by side, and the sick one looks very very sparse compared to it's twin. you guys have done plenty of head scratching on my behalf, i just wanted to be certain as the TO wants a report from the tree professional. thanks again. travis
  12. ahh, i was a bit confusing. the local planning are not enforcing the removal, the home owner is looking for a legitimate reason for removal. I also forgot to mention that the roots have been trimmed as they had interferred with the mains sewer!
  13. my inlaws have a few of these trees in their front garden, even the tree officer didn't manage to identify them. i have previously removed one tree a while back, now another of the trees is scabby looking. can any one help out with either a diagnosis or a good enough reason for the local tree officer to have this tree removed. i have taken a photo, there are two trunks growing very close but not joined. one trunk looks healthy and bushy, the other is very sparse, wilty and woody.

thats tiresome, so how much should i have paid for the pack of three?
  19. just found one of the clutch springs broken. Do i have to remove the drive sprocket to fit the new spring? thanks
  20. is it possible to indentify this fungus from these VERY POOR images ?
  21. i can sympathize, i walk my dogs along a canal very close to home. every boat owner seems to own a little stihl. they cut small logs ontop of a box held secure with their non-ppe boot! one day i was working along side my uncle, my saw was playing up and wouldn't start. his old-school solution was to put the toe of his boot in the handle to start the saw (chain brake off) with some revs. there was no way on earth i could have explaned to him the error. his done it his way since chainsaws were invented probably.
  22. where in particular and for what company ?
