  1. no the saw wont hang from the starter cord, it just slowly drops. is that a fair test? the saw feels quite heavy. how much money am i looking at, to have the cylinder/rings repaired ? and if it turns out to be the carb, is that repairable or avaliable still?
  2. i have a Stihl ms200t for sale. the engine starts, warms up and idles very well. based in cheshire
  3. right, i primed the chamber with some fuel, replaced the plug and plug cap. still no stihl. should i conclude that there is a mechanical fault, ie lack of compression ? t
  4. allright, will do. thanks again travis
  5. i have been given the task to fix a friends saw, after my big headed speech to him, about let a pro look at it. after having a good look, i can't make it even cough or splutter. so i thought it must be fuel not getting to the carb. i dont know how to test this.. also has anyone got an idea whats likely to be the problem? there is a spark from the plug thanks
  6. i have a couple of chains for my ms 200t, will i notice any difference with the two types of chain? ie low vibe and no low vibe.
  7. he asks "why wont my chainsaw start?" [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Dpqnas4O5s]YouTube - The saga of starting the Stihl Chainsaw[/ame]
  8. hamadryad, are you talking about air-spades and mulching ? also what could one do with a urban tree, where the concrete/tarmac is right up against the trunk. in Australia, urban trees have metal grids around them and have a pipe to irrigate the roots past the top layer of soil. is this good practice ?

    ms 200t tuning

thanks, i've decided to stop running the ms200t on aspen, i really couldn't get it to run right. husqvarna on the otherhand say aspen is the only fuel they recommend. thanks again travis
  10. i thought it was an aphid that was attacking all the conifer hedges near me.
  11. is there a correct time to work on a cherry. its got fruit on at the moment. will it do the tree harm to take off a few branches? travis
  12. i will post a photo of the foliage. to me the leaves look healthy. considering the drougt. has anyone had many trees falling over yet. i know some will be suffering in sandy soil.
  13. Janey, i know what you mean about the badger latrine. but i'm almost confident that the gunk is coming from the trunk. if i go poking at the trunk, i will be making the problem worse ?? i've shifted a bit of the gravel and there are DEEP cracks in the soil. i thinks its very dry. just like my garden. we have clay soil here. do you think there is a chance of the tree falling over if the ground remains soo dry ? t
  14. thanks Nepia, i knew someone would want the wood. i obviously up for having it down, i wouldn't have any sort of tree growing close to my house.
  15. what about descending on a italian (munter) hitch ? it works in the same way as a fig 8, i think and all you need is a carabiner. t
  16. hi yes, i bet this has been asked over and over again. but, is there a video somewhere of how to tune a stihl. i'm not very good at hearing when an engine is right or wrong. also i'm trying to tune the saw to run on aspen. and what size files do i need for the chain.? t
  17. improve soil conditions, that sounds like a good suggestion. a brilliant course of action would be to water the tree(hose pipe ban, and tight-bummed owner) so what would i do to improve soil conditions ? dig up soil around base and replace with mulch / manure ?
  18. um, he's not constructing a house, the house is already there. the house is an old welsh cottage, i think. so there wont be any construction traffic. he himself suggested digging a trench by the house to inspect for roots. my suggestion was to get rid of the tree because, to me, its sounds like it's too near the house.
  19. here is a macro photo of (one of many) larvae that i found in the sap/flux. can anyone identify this beast? they do look like they are emerging from the tree. they are very small! 2-3 mm ? awesome!
  20. re. protection RPa is 12 * dbh what is protection RPa ? and what would i gain if i multiplied depth breadth and height by 12 ?

    stihl 200t

i think the easy answer is, after you run the saw oil drips off where the oil pump out onto the bar and chain. all saws do it. they are not clean. dont put one in you gf/wifes car boot. t
  22. oh man, no one understands what i mean.. do the roots reach out horizontally as far as the branches do ? i know some species send out roots far beyond the branch tips.
  23. i think that the tree is about 15-20 yrs, about 1ft dia. im going to have to go and measure it, arn't i? as far as i know, nothing has changed. it's right by where i park my car. under the gravel, flint or chehire pea is that geo membrane to prevent weeds. could that and the tarmac everywere, be starving the tree of water? on the other side of the fence is just pavement then gardens.
  24. a mate asked my what my thoughts were on a monkey puzzle tree, that is planted close the house which he has bought. i think his concern was, were the roots going to interfere with his underground services etc and foundations of his building. so my question is, does the root spread correlated with the canopy or branch spread. like on other species. or do all trees grow differently in different situations.? If it's brown, cut it down. travis
