  1. and again on this 'strangler fig' like hornbeam .
  2. Forming segmentation on this fine birch .
  3. All new adjustable innovation which has been developed by experts as being a highly effective elevation system that protects your climbing equipment against urinating dogs. Patent pending........ .
  4. Pesticide foliar spray and systemic stem injections using chemical and biological agents. A good example are the control options available for Horse chestnut leaf miner (Cameraria ohridella) On the bio front Allacin (garlic extract) and nematodes make the leaves unpalatable and alive with natural predation. This probably works best on targeted individual isolated trees. Not sure if anyone has developed anything specific for the Holm oak leaf miner yet. .
  5. I think it's got good energy levels, hence all the new buds. It just needs greater photosynthetic area to balance its production/useage ratio so needs to put out fresh photo/glucose factories to sustain itself. .
  6. No real need to Chris, pretty wet area and has an understory of shrubby/planty type things to keep people off its roots. .
  7. Yeah, we were thinking that also Matty. Thought it was dead when I first saw it from distance earlier this morning. No other noticeable effects on its health, so constant mining seems to be the logical explanation. Will keep an eye on how it fairs through the coming year, but it looks ok .
  8. Evergreen Holm oak that has dropped 90% of its foliage probably in part to a number of constant years with the associated leaf miner (Ectoedemia heringella) Budding up nicely and soon to wearing its new suit. .
  9. Looks like a busy day Mick, how low did the co-dom start? .
  10. Interestingly, these are our trees, and he was climbing where there are OPM nests............Mmmmm Think we may have to have a word .
  11. Desiccated Laetiporus is a fair shout I'd say. [ame] [/ame] .
  12. As well as running an apprentice for 18 months we've just given a Belgian Arb student a two month internship to help him complete his studies. The following is a pictorial diary of some of the work he was involved during his time with us. [ame] [/ame] Fine young man, who fitted in to the team really well. .
  13. No matter how hard they try Steve, those reprobates will never quite master it, it's taken my boys years to attain the mastery of the star jump lunge ! .
  14. Back at the Beeches of Burnham to check on some of the tethers we've installed over the last few years. We're usually there in the winter, so it was great to see it in its verdant spring cloaked glory for a change. .
  15. Old beech pollard with long term Ganoderma basal decay, unknown top rot being taken advantage of by a woodpecker..... .
  16. Holm oak leaf-miner (Ectoedemia heringiella). Have a look at post 12 here..... http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/tree-health-care/73581-leaf-miners-2.html .
  17. Agree with Andrew Condition of tree and its context to its setting is needed. I've seen the aftermath of big sheltered veteran oaks that have collapsed where the decay of dryadeus is at height and have seen exposed mature oaks with long term basal colonisation of dryadeus survive and continue to thrive. .
  18. Put ya money on the piebald nag at the back .
  19. You wouldn't believe how many bananas are in my inbox Paul. 3583 at the last count I think. Should probably have a clear out .
  20. Looks like good habitat tree removed there Paul, what was the reason? Aesthetics or hazard? .
  21. Looks like it to me Have you got any close ups of the flesh/tube layer? .
  22. Crumbled away like cottage cheese whilst putting the silky through it. .
