  1. Yesterday I answered a knock on the door, only to be confronted by a well-dressed young man carrying a vacuum cleaner. 'Good morning,' said the young man. 'If I could take a couple of minutes of your time, I would like to demonstrate the very latest in high-powered vacuum cleaners.' 'Go away!' I said. 'I haven't got any money!', 'I'm broke!' and proceeded to close the door. Quick as a flash, the young man wedged his foot in the door and pushed wide open. 'Don't be too hasty!' he said. 'Not until you have at least seen my demonstration.' And with that, he emptied a bucket of horse manure onto my hallway carpet. 'If this vacuum cleaner does not remove all traces of this horse manure from your carpet, Sir, I will personally eat the remainder.' I stepped back and said, 'Well I hope you've got a bloody good appetite, because they cut off my electricity this morning. What part of 'broke' do you not understand? Does that sound right? Seriously your son is six? Ive done one with a prisoner, policeman, mother, father and two kids. Prisoner cant be left with kids or mother without the policeman. The kids cant be left without a parent etc lol. Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
  4. Yeah ok take the mick I bought one (when the reviews were great, after my years warantee was up they turned sour). Ive had a few problems starting/idling and its sounded a bit ropey. Ive tried adjusting the idle screw which seemed to.stop it but it sounds like its over revving. Someone suggested i clean the carb (I use aspens if that matters) but i cant get the nuts out of the baffle to get to it. All my sockets are too fat to fit in the plastic case. Any help with this or other suggestions for the saws problems would be great. Im on a coppice efficiency (esus forestry) with a group of husky fanboys/girl taking the piss. Should have gone all orange!!!!!!! Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk 2
  5. I was told on my cs30 that oregon use two types of steel (?) in their files ones great and the others pants. Not sure if it tells you on the pack or wether its a lucky dip situation. I have to admit I havent tried to tell the difference, Im still a newbie and on my first pack of files.
  6. The ones up by the house will be 2.5m square on the outside, giving atleast 2cu m internal. As for getting it out the front wall will only be half height. I spent yesterday cutting the lengths neatly and square to keep it tidy. We'll (I say "we" but this is dads department I just fell/cross cut/lift heavy stuff!!!) line them up in size and start with the bigger stuff at the bottom. Depending on how the walls fare up it will be dismantled and burnt in time and replaced. Clever my dad, isn't he. All this to get rid of the tarpaulin/plastic crap "A" frame monstrosity.
  7. Prototype number one. Dad made this one in the woods to see if it worked and if it was suitably rustic enough for mum to allow it up near the house.
  8. If it works the hornbeam will be off the ground anyway, probably on some Oak blocks (have some spare) so it was just the longevity of hb exposed to the elements I was trying to get an idea of. Great insight into concreting posts! Thanks Rover. I always guessed they held water around the posts but the pH and tannin info was new to me.
  9. Didn't think of chestnut, I'll look into it thanks.
  10. Thankyou for the reply. No the plan was to use a treated fence post in each corner and then use sizal (sorry about the spelling ) rope to thread them together and secure to the post. It will only be 2m x 2m and 1m high so wont need to be too substantial. And we're aiming for the eco-friendly approach so concrete is out.
  11. Not technically firewood but related. Dad and I were planning to build a firewood shelter (times 3 if this one works) out of hornbeam and would like to know how long it would last? The walls will be off the ground and covered in winter to dry the firewood so would be protected from the worst of the weather. The plan is to leave it in the round. How long roughly would it take to rot? Thanks, James
  12. Well done Big T, did you do them separately? Was it through your work?
  13. Woo hoo !!!!!! I was nervous about getting my cuts right and the wind undoing all my careful aiming but I took two down with a basic fell and a split level lever cut. I know it probably comes down to experience but If you were looking for new groundies what other tickets would be helpful. I was thinking chipper and climbing/arial rescue?
  14. Yes I pushed it over to see his belly!
  15. Thankyou for the fast reply Matt. Any ideas what would be the best option? I was thinking to fell it and maybe scrub the stool to.try and stop it spreading.
  16. His guys, I hope someone can tell what these holes are in what i think is an ash stool. They appear in the two stems on this stool and on another three a bit further up the hedge line. Im a bit concerned as there is a very priductive stool next to it so wouldnt want anything spreading to that one. http://m1186.photobucket.com/albumview/albums/hornbeam_mad/Trees/TreeHoles2.jpg.html?o=0 James
  17. Sorry me again, I meant to say if anyone wants one Ill do my best to stick it in the post.
  18. I got two!! one with Small Woods and one with Living Woods. GEEK!!!! or as the missus calls me treek!!!!!!) Trouble with these things is that you never have enough money to do everything!
  19. Ive only ever used aspen in my 261, hedge cutter and brush cutter. Use them on family's land and dad is fine getting it for me. Only issue is the cost. He found it was cheaper by the pallet but you need some sort of lisence to buy/store that much in case your a terrorist or something lol.
  20. Oil in the gas tank....check, Put a chain on backwards (nearly, I didnt make it to putting the bar cover on).......check. Whats rocking a chain?........
  21. As you said nothing to worry about. I am two days into the six, and covered saw maintainence, cross cutting and making stools (xmas presents sorted for family and inlaws I think ). I didnt realise but the assessment isn't until later on so Ive got a solid six days and time to practice in the woods and read everything over again. As mentioned Dave Rosney is a fantastic instructor and explains everything in full detail. Im looking forward to next week.
  22. Hi, I have mine booked with esus forestry next week and just wanted some advice on anything I could do.beforehand. Is there anything worth reading, or is it all covered in the course. I have done a very basic Domestic users course but obviously this will be assessed. Thanks in advance.
  23. Is that a serious "Oaks don't need pruning"? I hope to chop back a large branch that hangs over the field to hopefully (he says in a purely experimental "got an idea in my head gonna do it" way) to let more light through to an area for planting ash to be cut for firewood in ten or more years.
  24. I'll have to get a professional in then, Bargain Hunt is on at 5.00pm and i cant miss that!!!
